If he stepped up to help his Aunt, the Reps would be saying he is using his influence as a Senator to help an aunt who is here illegally.

There is no right answer, is there?

If I'm not mistaken, US Senators can fast track immigration status changes.

I'm aware because I make it my responsibility to be aware. Believe me, there are days when I'm ready to pull my hair out and wash my hands of him completely. And I could do that. He'd end up in a homeless shelter and on government support.

But, Barack Obama has said he was unaware of his aunt's status. We don't know their relationship.

What was he supposed to do about her status if he was unaware? Why is he responsible for her simply because they are related?

I don't know what my family members do...and I'm not responsible for their actions. I'm not going to step up to the plate with my family members if they have made illegal choices.

I know where he stands.

Depending on how a person interprets the message...the meaning can change.

There are those of us that can see what his intent was behind his message...and agree with that message.

Others do not. If you don't agree with his policies and beliefs...don't vote for him.

Again, IMO, he's responsible because she's part of his family, someone he felt close enough with to invite to the ceremony when he became a Senator. If he was unaware, it's only because he didn't want to know where and how she was.

I could have used this logical a long time ago, with my brother, and then I could be sitting here today saying "But I didn't know he was on public assistance". But that would only be because I didn't want to know, not because I literally couldn't have known.

He doesn't have any obligation to do anything about this matter. He is not a law enforcement officer. At least...this is a conflict of interest...and he can do nothing.

This is simply not the case.

I have many many family members...for various reasons...that I am not fully aware of their actions or their lives.

Again...you don't know their relationship...you can't judge. To do so is nothing but speculation.

The whole subject is depressing me.

Because it's such a stark reminder of what is wrong with the "big government" approach to "solving" all our problems. So many people seem so eager to use government to replace the traditional role that immediate and extended family used to occupy. That tradition certainly didn't work perfectly, but it worked a lot better than this sorry spectacle - that of a presumed next POTUS having an aunt who is an illegal immigrant living in a public housing tenement.

It's like a groteque satire of the nanny state...

BSnyder...may I just say...that although you and I disagree on just about everything...I have thoroughly enjoyed posting with you on these threads. There are a few posters on the "opposite" side that I find very thought provoking and respectful...and you're one of them.

And what "rights" to privacy does a woman who was ordered out of the country actually have? Immigration status concerns everyone. She is stealing housing that should be reserved for a citizen.

There must have been a reason she was ordered out. No, I don't want BO to get in the white house and raise my taxes in order to "spread the wealth." I sure don't want my hard earned money going to illegals!
