Obamacare success stories please

Sure, why not? If you can't beat 'em, join 'em. :confused3

Eventually more and more people will catch on that this is the way to go.

I love this new world we live in!:cheer2:

No way I would rather start another business work 90 plus hour week, sell it invest the profit. I'm giver baby!

Plus government cheese is nasty.

Seems fair to me.

Really? NO wonder this country is in the shape it is in. I guess I can give up a little more, my kids can give up a little more, just so someone else can have something that I help pay for. I love how that works.

I highly doubt this is true, unless he was on a cadillac plan.

You can doubt it all you want, doesn't make it any less true. I saw the packet with my own eyes. But hey, forget I posted; keep your head in the sand.

A woman in our church got a very similar letter today, and her insurance premium is MORE than doubling. She's going to have to drop it, because she can't afford the increase.

Sure would be nice if the situation were all sunshine and roses for everyone, but that's just not the reality.

Really? explain why I should pay more for things so others can have it. I have to work and do without things to afford it. I pay plenty for my premiums, why do I have to pay more for others just because I have a great plan.

Because making money or too much money is out of vogue in America. Unless they want us the " lucky" to pay for the new welfare program.

Lets just admit it ACA is a feel good welfare program not tax credit. Now 94k family of 4 isn't enough money to support ones family, but 95k is lol

And as long as you don't have to pay its ok just like food stamps, free school lunches, ssi, there really isn't a difference.

Fair is the weather right Colleen.

Because we have to do everything for the greater good.

Isn't that the way we should be thinking now? It will work so much better this way, don't you think?

Well if you say so. I think I am reading sarcasm in here but not quite sure? lol

This is probably more likely than you think. I have Tricare (my husband is military) and they will ration out my prescriptions for my thyroid. My doctor usually puts in three refills for me at a time. Tricare will not fill my refill until the last bottle is almost out. If I lose my prescription I have to call my doctor to put in a new script instead of just going to pick up a refill.

Please if anyone is going to tell me how ungrateful I am for having "free" healthcare keep it to yourself. Unless you have dealt with the military healthcare system you will not understand how frustrating it is.

Private insurance can be just as bad. We couldn't see the doctors in our community, had to drive 20+ miles into suburbia for an in-network doctor. That wasn't bad for the kids' annual well visits but when I was pregnant with my youngest it was a real pain. I also didn't have the option of delivering at the small local hospital 15min from home; I had to go to the bigger medical center 45 min from home, a source of much anxiety because my second labor was only an hour and a half.

We don't have any ongoing prescriptions in our family, but my mother's non-government insurance requires she use a mail-order pharmacy and limits refills to within a week prior to the end of the previous refill. Her doctor has given her samples of her daily meds to keep on hand because gaps of a day or two due to pharmacy delays aren't unusual, particularly if there's a postal holiday that falls in the refill window.

Assuming, for the sake of the argument, that a 1-3% increase is typical and can not be attributed to implementation of the ACA, how do you account for the poster's increase that exceeds 17%? Are the people who are posting increases that exceed the 3% mark just unlucky?

That's how averages work - some will be on the "winning" side of the average increase, some will be on the "losing" side, and of course the ACA isn't the only factor in premium increases. We've had double-digit increases every year for the last 7 or 8; someone is doing a lot better than that 9% average to balance us out.

Also, keep in mind that for those who get insurance through an employer, the premium increases you're seeing may or may not be the whole story - there's another layer of decisionmaking involved at the employer level as to how much of the premiums to subsidize, which may or may not be related to any change in those premiums. Of an average 9% premium increase you might only see a 2% increase because your employer is willing to absorb the rest, or you might see a 20% increase because your employer has decided to reduce the subsidy they provide.

We live on the high ground, house behind us don't. whats next federal mandated flood insurance for all?

Actually, we already have that. We live on high ground, but after the 2005 hurricane season when the flood insurance program was hemorrhaging money the flood maps were redrawn and suddenly we needed flood insurance for the first time.

My plan is going from 469 to 853. Not quite double but enough to have me upset. This is a Blue Cross/Blue Shield and we got the same letter explaining that is our option under the ACA. We are getting a Bronze plan if we chose the 853 price...silver is 863 and gold is 1100 plus.

Gray52....can you elaborate on your friend's success story a little? By self-employed, do you mean he owns his own small business or is he a muscian or makes crafts? Is it single care or for a family of four? spouse coverage? If he is saving $800/month, how much was he paying and for what type of coverage before Obamacare? Does he live in a big city with many services or a rural area with few places to choose from? Is he considered "poverty level"? Does he pay rent or does he get help from the gov't? Does he own his own home? I have been trying for a week now to just get basic info and cannot get past the log-in page (after finally getting a log-in name on Sat......took hours just for that). My underemployed college grad kids can no longer afford the $400/month each it is costing them....we are trying to make budget plans. Thanks in advance. Were you able to find out any info for yourself?

He is a psychologist near Ann Arbor, MI. Has his own practice. Family of 4. He said he's getting better coverage than he had previously for about $800/mo less. Best I can do for you. Hope it helps.

I'm not a style follower. I preferred the old vogue-work hard, succeed, and be proud of your accomplishments.

Seems we better learn to be a "style" follower. I also agree with your way, but we seem to be out voted. It is a shame.

Don't the 51 percent of non tax paying Americans have a moral obligation to help support this country too?

Sorry, I've been slapped here enough by mods for talking politics. Not going to engage.

We're struggling right now financially (but not receiving any type of assistance, besides unemployment), but we have health insurance. If I have to pay a little more each month so that others less fortunate are able to get healthcare outside of an emergency room (which drives costs up, because they can't pay the huge bill), then I'll struggle a little bit harder to do so.

You can use the exchange whether you qualify for a subsidy or not. In many cases the price is lower than currently available for many. It helps those who need help and qualify for a subsidy. It also helps those who do not qualify to get a lower rate in many cases.
