Obama Supporters, A question?

I respect your decision to vote for your convictions. However, I hope all the Democrats and Independents realize that by electing McCain you are in all likelihood giving a green light to a Supreme Court that will overturn Roe V Wade, rubber stamp an amendment to the constitution to outlaw gay unions, and permit prayer in school...... just for starters. If you are cool with all of that, then there is no problem. I just want to remind everyone that there is more than just the Presidency at stake this November. It's estimated that 4 Supreme Court Justices will retire in the next eight years. McCain has made it clear he will appoint only Conservatives such as Thomas and Scalia to replace them.

Exactly :thumbsup2 I don't understand how someone could change their views so drastically just because they don't like or understand the personality of the elected candidate, even though they agree with your political views and are surrounded by people who do the same?

I'll never understand that. If you're a registered Democrat, and you agree with the beliefs of the party, why would you go against your own beliefs and turn your back on the party you support in order to support someone who is just going to continue the Bush regime? Most, if not all, Democrats are against the war yet if Hillary is the nominee they'll run to vote for a man who said that he'd stay in Iraq for 100 years?! :confused3 I don't understand that handful of people who hate Hillary with a passion, especially when her views are almost exactly the same as Obama's. Why would anyone completely turn their back on their own beliefs on policy simply because they don't like or understand a candidates personality? And what if Obama is Hillary's vice-president? I'm supporting Clinton but I also like Obama and wouldn't have a problem voting for either of them because I support the beliefs and policies of the Democratic party and find sticking to those beliefs important. I guess I'll just never understand doing otherwise.

Would you vote to put someone in office that you didn't feel was a good and trustworthy person?

I don't see how either candidate is bad or untrustworthy :confused3 I see them as both having the same views on the issues, with one candidate having some more experience. And regardless, I'd vote for someone who agreed with my views rather than vote for someone who would continue the war in Iraq for "a hundred years," overturn Roe v. Wade, ban gay marriage, mandate prayer in schools, or any of the other things I completely, 100% disagree with.

While I prefer Obama, I certainly don't see Hillary as someone bad and untrustworthy. I agree though, that there is a "cut off line" when one is voting mainly for the issues and not liking the candidate, but I honestly don't see Hillary as being even close to someone so vile that I, as a Democrat, could not pull the lever for her. She isn't anywhere close to that "line" for me.

First of all, I registered as a Democrat so I could vote in our Caucus for Obama. In the state of Washington your vote will not count for a candidate unless you choose either Dem or Rep, Independents do NOT have their votes counted.
Secondly, and you may see this as foolish, but I have to vote for someone who I can respect. Hillary is not that person for me. I respect that she is that person for you, but she is NOT that person for me. I don't like her, I don't trust her and she's (JMHO) a longstanding member of the "more of the same" club. I love Bill Clinton, but I don't need all that crap dredged up again. I had to have a conversation with my then 4yo DD about "oral sex" because it was all over the news. And just how do you explain the a little kid what exactly the president did with that flippin' cigar? And right now, Bill & Hill are playing dirty, down in the mud dirty, and I don't want them back in the White House.
I want a change. I want a president who kids will look up to. I remember days when I was a kid that there was a pic of the president in every classroom and little kids aspired to being the president when they grew up. I want to believe and I DO believe that it can happen in my lifetime. Look at the amount of young people standing up for Obama, they want to change the world and change the dirtiness of politics.

Me neither, and neither does anyone I know or have met. Maybe it's because I'm in NY and she has a lot of supporters here but I've yet to come across anyone who absolutely despises her, and I really don't understand why anyone would. I'm a big Clinton supporter but wouldn't have a problem voting for Obama, so I don't know why so many people would have so much trouble doing the opposite :confused3

That aside, I read some of the past comments about Obama's leadership ability with great interest. I must say that some of you make him sound like a salesmen.
He is a salesman...all politicians are. The true statesmen - the Kennedy's, Churchill's, and the like - are also inspirational. They make you believe in what you're buying into. Barack has the potential to be that kind of leader, IMO.

Would you vote to put someone in office that you didn't feel was a good and trustworthy person?

If the choice was someone that would continue to water the Iraqi desert with American blood and would appoint judges more concerned with the rights of corporations than the rights of individuals, you're darn right I would. I have my questions about whether Hillary will live up to everything she's said, absolutely. Her lies about the vote on the Iraq war are enough to get my radar up on other issues. But vote for a guy who has gone out of his way in the last 4 years to cowtow to every far-right nutjob that might swing a couple votes his way? Not a chance.

Make no mistake about it...I would be casting a vote against McCain as much as I would for Hillary.

You don't like what Bill did so you're taking it out on Hillary? That's another thing I'll never understand, but OK. And why would you explain "oral sex" or whatever happened with a cigar to a FOUR year old? There are lots of things on the news, on TV, on the radio, in books and magazines, and in real life that aren't meant for four-year olds and we don't explain it all to them, so I don't understand what your explaining oral sex to your 4-year old has to do with such extreme hatred of Hillary? I think Hillary is a strong, powerful women who knows exactly what she's doing and yes, is certainly someone girls could look up to. You're absolutely entitled to your own opinion and not everyone is going to like the candidates running for the presidency, but I just don't understand your reasoning. :confused3

There are many that don't agree with you on that point though. Me included. I live in the SF Bay Area, where GOP is a dirty word, and I can assure you I am not alone in my feelings. I'll just be sitting this one out if it comes down to HRC v. McCain.

I couldn't live with myself if I chose nothing and more of the same won. The stakes are too high.

I know and people are entitled to their own opinions. But if you strongly support the personal and political beliefs of the party why would you go against them? Not voting is also a vote for the "other" side... a side which would apply policies that go completely against your own views and continue more of the same mess that we've been dealing with for years. I just don't see how that's a good thing.

And why do some people believe that Hillary is so "bad" and "untrustworthy?"

I don't trust Obama in every thing he says and no, I don't think he is trustworthy. I think he is naive still in the world of politics and will have a RUDE awakening if he is elected President. BUT with all that I will vote for him if he gets the nom.

I am a Hillary supporter through and through and I feel she will run the country much better then Obama, but the thought of putting McCain in charge for 4 years scares this Democrat.

People that will not vote for Hillary, yet will vote for Obama (or even those who will vote for Hillary but not Obama) are letting their prejudices clouded their judgement. IMO

I seriously think unless Clinton/Obama are on the same ticket in November it will be an uphill battle for the Dems to win. There will be too many people voting for the other guy or just sitting the election out and that is a really scaring thought!

I am a registered Democrat, but I do not regard her as a role model and I won't be voting for her.

Professionally, she has been involved in scandals. Personally, she "forgave" her husband for his indiscretions. That is not someone I would want my kids - or any child - to look up to.

If she is in office, Bill will be in direct contact. I cannot live 4 more years with that... and the words oral sex should never have been uttered when talking about our President in the first place. Kids - or anyone else for that matter - shouldn't be hearing about this stuff because a President shouldn't be doing those things outside of his marriage anyway. He should have been taking care of his duties as President.

If she is the president I see nothing less than 4 years of arguing, complaining and getting nothing accomplished.
Hillary is "polarizing" mostly because right-wing-radio-types like to hate on her. Those same folks are going to attack Obama non-stop too. Heck, they are hating on McCain, and he's a Republican.

If the democratic candidate is not Obama, I would happily vote for Hillary. I cannot imagine any scenario where I would "sit out" and not vote.

Wow, I'm sorry but you have no right to tell anyone what they can and can not do within their own marriage. Now, I agree you have every right to complain about him doing it in the oval office and to be angry at him for lying under oath, but frankly the state of their marriage was between them.
Hillary was damned if she did and damned if she didn't.. She gets critisized for staying will Bill..Maybe her beliefs about her marriage vows are a part of that. I don't know.. If she had left him you would have people coming down on her for breaking her *til death do us part* vows..

And NO other president ever had affairs??? Does Kennedy ring a bell??? I like Kennedy as much as the next guy but he was no Saint ;)
Bill wasn't the first one to have an affair, it was just the first one that was openly talked about.

I will vote for Hillary if it's not Obama..I would much rather vote for Obama though.
