Well, our news just reported that Barack may be coming through town on the 23rd or the 1st I hope that's true! McCain was here today next to my DH's work, it was a small facility...

We're new to the area, I wonder where they put larger crowds around here?? Anyhow, they said possibly the 23rd or the 1st, the 23rd would work better for me LOL....

Since this is the POSITIVE place for talk guys, don't let people get to you, don't even respond..... there are plenty of other places for that..... Yeh, I'm sure they'll be happy with that information My kids vacation might be cut a day short, or I may come back to the house which would be close to any venue and leave DH at the ski condo with the kids if it's the 1st....

If he's local, I'll be there, dragging MIL with me! She's 72 and wants to vote for him!

They're also opening a local HQ potentially on Monday, I'm going to make myself a frequent volunteer

If the constitution is not a living document, and you believe we should abide by it word for word....do you also believe that African Americans are only two-thirds of a person?

Sorry...the "strict Contitutionlist"(sic) thing just drives me batty with the Bushies.

Back on topic.....I wish Barack would make an appearance around here, but I don't see it happening any time soon. For some stupid reason, our primary isn't until something like the week after the general election (ok, I'm exagerrating...but only slightly ), so the candidates don't really have much reason to visit the Mountain State. I may see if DW would want to drive over to Ohio (I'm about 3 hours from Columbus, 4 from Cincinnati) to catch him in person, but she's not a political junkie like I am, so I'm not sure she'd be interested.

Oh well...maybe he'll get here before November.

Why? The judges that Bush has appointed are just as bad as any about not interpreting the Constitution literally. When I say I am a Constitutionlist, I mean not to make laws circumventing what it says. You know - double jeopardy, etc. And I am not opposed to amendments to it that insure that all people have equal treatment. (re: you comment on African Americans)

U.S. Representative John Lewis of Georgia who had heartily endorsed Senator Clinton a few months ago has CHANGED his mind and is now endorsing Senator Obama.

"In recent days, there is a sense of movement and a sense of spirit," Lewis told The New York Times. "Something is happening in America and people are prepared and ready to make that great leap."

Sounds like Rep. Lewis is going with Obama. This is a significant decision.

"Mr. Lewis, who carries great influence among other members of Congress, disclosed his decision in an interview in which he said that as a superdelegate he could “never, ever do anything to reverse the action” of the voters of his district, who overwhelmingly supported Mr. Obama.

“I’ve been very impressed with the campaign of Senator Obama,” Mr. Lewis said. “He’s getting better and better every single day.”

His comments came as fresh signs emerged that Mrs. Clinton’s support was beginning to erode from some other African-American lawmakers who also serve as superdelegates. Representative David Scott of Georgia, who was among the first to defect, said he, too, would not go against the will of voters in his district.

Superdelegate Socks waits for the next question from Helen Thomas.

Former First Pet, Socks the Cat, has released a statement endorsing Senator Barack Obama (D-Illinois) over Senator Hillary Clinton (D-NY), her former owner.

Speculation had been growing that the Clinton-era White House cat was one of the 400-plus superdelegates whose vote could help decide who will be the Democratic Party's nominee for president of the United States.

In recent weeks, delivery trucks from pets.com had been pulling up at all hours outside the home of Betty Curie, Bill Clinton's personal secretary, who took the cat in when the Clintons left the White House in 2000.

Ms. Currie's neighbors saw deliverymen bringing in cases of "Smarty Kat's Certified Organic Catnip" and noted discarded boxes marked "Hagen Living World Cat Spa" and "Felinerina's Sparkle Kitty Sweater Dress" in the recycling pile.

"I know government pensions are cushy, but really...that seemed excessive, and so unlike Betty," noted one neighbor who requested anonymity because she played bridge twice weekly with Ms. Currie.

Socks' succinctly worded statement, "You choose Buddy, I'm choosing Barack... Meow!" may allude to lingering resentment over the Clintons' decision to move first dog Buddy to Chappaqua, NY instead of Socks.

(Buddy was tragically struck and killed by a car in January of 2002, and thus is not expected to cast a delegate ballot during the nominating convention in Denver, Colorado this summer.)

How this endorsement will affect Senator Clinton's standing with cat-lovers remains to be seen.

The Clinton campaign denied lobbying for the cat's affection and reacted to the endorsement by noting that "Senator Obama tends to do well with cats, so we expected this. We remain focused on winning in Ohio and Texas on March 4th and on providing real solutions for real American people - not just their pets."

I asked this on the liberal thread, so I'll ask here too. I've pretty much decided for Obama, so give me reasons why I should stick to my choice! (Going to give the Clinton fans a chance to speak their mind on that thread, too.) Just thought it would be fun to see what everyone's reasons are for choosing their candidates.

I've pretty much decided for Obama, so give me reasons why I should stick to my choice!

1 - Leadership - We haven't had an inspirational leader in office since Kennedy.
2 - Ethics - Barack has them.
3 - Electability - Hillary just has too many "haters" out there that will come out just to vote against her. Plus, the youth vote won't matter if she's the nominee, because they won't show up for her the way they will for Barack.
4 - International Relations - Barack is willing to talk to people, even if we don't approve of their actions. This is a critical difference between he and the rest of the candidates still in the race.
5 - National Unity - Obama is drawing support across the board and from across the aisle...and all while maintaining his liberal credentials.
6 - He doesn't "play the game" - He has the guts to go in front of groups that don't support his positions and explain what brings him to his decisions and beliefs.
7 - Hillary goes negative - Barack has done a good job of staying on message and only pointing out differences in the two. Hillary, on the other hand, just started the attack ads because she's behind. With her, it's about winning the job, not deserving the job.

There are others, but those are a few off the top of my head.

But he may vote in the general election if Hillary is the nominee. Being dead is only a minor inconvenience when voting in certain areas.

I do appreciate this thread-it's nice to be able to share our thoughts.

Why do I support Obama? I think he represents a new day in politics. I think the challenges of 2008-2012 need new ideas, and a fresh approach. I don't think the solution is to go back to the '90's.

Obama impresses me on many issues. I agree with him that we need to work now to improve education in America. Words aren't enough-we need to target this problem with money and incentives.

I am a strong supporter of civil rights. I like that he has devoted a portion of his legal career for making a difference in this area.

I think his health care plan is realistic. He provides coverage, but he declines punish decent tax paying citizens who decide to opt out.

On the economy-He understands our country needs to end the tax benefits for sending work out of the country. At the same time, he wants to reward those who are working to create jobs.

I like that he realizes putting our heads in the sand and not talking to leaders we don't like is foolish. I also think his position on the whole Iraq situation
was correct from the start.

Most important-he's willing to work with folks of both parties. He doesn't assume this is impossible, rather, he thinks civil discourse is the goal. His refreshing approach to leadership doesn't mean we will always agree. But by being open to discussion issues respectfully he chooses not to lead with ineffective dueling sound bites.

His well-reasoned approach is much more likely to get government working for the good of our country.

As a "card carrying" member of the ACLU and a donor to the Southern Poverty Law Center, I can not freaking believe that I forgot to mention this point!
