Obama supporters! - A positive place to talk about his campaign

Was anyone else here sickened by Hillary's remarks calling Obama an elitist, and saying he looked down on small town folks?

It's getting to the point where I can't even watch her on tv. I can't wait for this all to be over and watching Obama accept the Democratic nomination.

Funny fact - I missed seeing Obama give the 2004 convention speech because we were in the Orlando airport heading home! That's the only acceptable excuse I have for missing any important Democratic moments!

Just to touch on the drug testing thing...

wvrevy, I think the PP was trying to corellate drug testing, jobs and welfare.

There are a lot of companies that require a drug test before you are hired and I have heard of companies requiring periodic drug tests while employed.

Since passing the drug test is a condition to becoming OR remaining employed and receiving a paycheck, I think the PP was trying to say that welfare is like that welfare recipient's paycheck and shouldn't they meet the same guidelines while receiving said welfare payment.

There are a few flaws. As wvrevy said, this probably wouldn't be, couldn't be enforced. I'm pretty sure each state has its own welfare laws and what is required for people to receive it. I know there are federal guidelines, but I will be the first to say that I do not know all the ins and outs of welfare law.

The obvious thing to me is that since not all jobs in the US require drug testing, the argument can be made that not all welfare recipients should be subject to it. And then how do you decide who is tested and who is not and get away with it without appearing to be discriminatory.

While I am sure there are some people who beat the system there are probably other ways to enforce that welfare is being used as intended and not to fund a drug habit or subsidize other non-priority items when you are in the process of rebuilding your life.

I just read a fantastic spin on the whole "bitter" thing on DU, and I have to tell you guys about it. For the next week, the news is going to be running clips of Hillary saying "You guys aren't angry and bitter about the government!"....while people all across the country go, "Wait...what?! You're flingin'flangin' right I'm angry and bitter about the government!"

Obama said working folks are bitter towards government... bitter means resentful and cynical. Find me one rural working class american that isn't resentful or cynical towards government. One.

April 15th is just a week away...I flat guarantee you won't find one!

You just watch...over the next few days, this is going to blow back in Hillary's and McCain's faces! Why? Because people are bitter about things like NAFTA - which Hillary supported though she claims to no longer while McCain still supports free trade not just in North America but worldwide.

(Again...credit for most of this post goes to the poster TLM on DU. I'd have copied and pasted his entire post, but there are some language issues thatpreclude me from doing so. It's on the "Greatest" page over there, though, so I encourage everyone to check it out. :teeth: )

Ok--gently dipping my toes in the water here.
I am voting for Barack. Ok...ducking...I thought this was suppose to be a positive thread and while looking through it, found lots of nasty stuff.

How can someone call him an elitist? Does anyone know the old, white men that have been presidents in the past? Many of them...elitists. Some of them slave owners. I could go on and on, but most of you know this already.

I think people really need to stop pointing fingers at others choices for President and really look at who they are voting for.

I have been reading up on Barack. I have to tell you, though, I loved him after the speech at the Democratic convention. I did not know who he was, but told my husband that Barack Obama would go far. My DH response, "Who?". He is not saying that now.

Whoever does win the election has quite a mess to clean up...God help us all.

So, I just met my postman today because of the Obama sign in my window. He said my sign was the first he'd seen when I put it up last Aug.; he also mentioned that Obama was on the cover of this week's Time magazine with his mother...has anyone seen the article?

Good point. I also like the poster below who wonders how Obama can be called an elitist. Also good point. I guess some thought that somehow a black man in America can fit that category.

Lisa, it is okay to duck in here. The occaisional nastiness stems from commentary from an impassioned HRC supporter or two. And I agree, with you, Bush, Cheney and company have left a major mess behind for the next president to clean up. Feel free to join in at any time. :yay:

The one thing that has been running through my head is that the "elitist" tag was used quite successfully against John Kerry in 2004...something to keep in mind.

81% of Americans now think we're on the wrong track as a nation. I hope some of them remember how they voted against the "elitist" back in 2004 and where that got them. If I worked for Senator Obama-that's what I'd be reminding people..." In 2004-People voted for the guy they'd like to have a beer with...and now nobody can afford to BUY a beer!!"

I love the site but can anyone tell me why there are two John McCain ads that seem to be embedded in the site? :confused3

They are the same Google ads that appear here and are chosen based on keywords found in the site text. You can't control which ads show up.

Thanks. I e-mailed the owner of the site. He just responded and told me he'd blocked the McCain ads but it will take them a while to be filtered out.

That's fantastic, whoever came up with it is a genius and FAST....

I love the article about Rendell...who said recently (last night?) that every thing is peachy keen in PA but at the end of March they were on a fast path to disaster. WHat brought the sudden turnaround??? Maybe we should all move to PA since its economically healthy and prosperous now. Wow.

I wish the media would pick up on this type of hypocritical junk.

The media is more concerned with 5 second soundbites they can replay for the ADD-driven minds of the American public. It's like the Wright controversies.

I can't help but laugh at good ol' Hillary and Bill calling Obama an elitist - he JUST finished paying off his school loans while they rack in a couple million dollars for each lousy speech Bill gives.

Well they certainly have made up for lost time in making sure Hill gets more favorable treatment, haven't they! I guess the squeaky wheel does get the grease.

While I prefer the candidates stick with pushing their own agenda instead of getting caught up in the he said she said drama and I understand what kind of campaign Obama is running , I just wish ONE time he would say screw it and come at her with all the big guns and put those final nails in the coffin. I hope he nails it at the upcoming debate (if they are still having it??).

I'm not sure if they are having a debate...I heard it was going to be before NC but after PA?

The articles just keep getting better..

Carter and Gore to ask Clinton to step down

I saw that too but I wasn't sure if it was legit but it seems to be. :thumbsup2

Thank God the party is waking up and are going to put us out of our Hill-misery.
