Remember those Clinton donors bullying the DCCC and Pelosi?

Donations to DCCC Spike after Clinton Threat To Pelosi
03 Apr 2008 10:04 am
The effort by Hillary Clinton’s bundlers to pressure Speaker Nancy Pelosi into retracting her comments about superdelegates has caused a spurt of Obama-linked donations to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, Democrats with direct knowledge of the situation said.
The letter, sent last week, was interpreted as an extortion threat; the 20 signatories seemed to suggest that they would withhold donations from the DCCC if Pelosi did not change her position. --- that superdelegates ought strongly consider the expressed will of voters in their states.
“We have been strong supporters of the DCCC,” the letter stated. “We therefore urge you to clarify your position on super-delegates and reflect in your comments a more open [view] to the optional independent actions of each of the delegates at the National Convention in August.”
But the letter may have backfired:, the DCCC saw a surge in online contributions, which officials there attribute to a mass action to protest the Clinton donor threat, and several major Obama donors called Speaker Pelosi and DCCC chair Chris Van Hollen asking how they could be helpful. Sources also said that several major Clinton donors, outraged at the letter sent in the name of the campaign, privately offered their assurances to the DCCC that no money would be cut off.
Mark Gorenberg, a member of Obama’s national finance team, and a long-time DCCC fundraiser, met with Pelosi last Friday.
“I met with the head of DCCC fundraising and agreed to dedicate real effort to raising money for the DCCC this coming quarter because they have 30 races to protect and at the same time there are 30 more republicans retiring and Nancy is the best,” Gorenberg wrote in an e-mail. “I assume the fundraisers in San Francisco will include hillary, obama, and edwards supporters. Nancy is a great unifying force out here and everyone loves her.”
Two sources close to Pelosi said that the Speaker did not appreciate being called out by the Clinton campaign so publicly. “I I can tell you she’s been disturbed about some of the Clinton campaign’s comments and tactics the last two months, especially saying John McCain would be a better Commander in Chief,” said one Washington-based Democrat who has spoken with Pelosi about the matter.
Pelosi has not endorsed; Clinton advisers and many journalists believe she is a secret supporter of Barack Obama's, although Pelosi aides insist that she's been careful to be - and to appear to be -- neutral.

This woman has no clue about the wedge her behavior has created. :sad2:

Clinton hints at wooing Obama delegates
BURBANK, Calif. - Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton, who is unlikely to catch rival Barack Obama in pledged delegates, hinted Thursday that she hoped to persuade a few to back her instead of him.

"There is no such thing as a pledged delegate," Clinton said at a news conference in California, where she has been fundraising.

Both Clinton and Obama planned to address the state convention of the North Dakota Democratic Party Friday, where delegates to this summer's national convention will be allocated. Obama crushed Clinton in the state's Feb. 5 presidential caucuses, 61 percent-36 percent.

The former first lady said she was traveling to North Dakota to thank her supporters and delegates — and wooing Obama supporters was fair game.

Pledged delegates are a "misnomer. The whole point is for delegates, however they are chosen, to really ask themselves who would be the best president and who would be our best nominee against Senator McCain," Clinton said. "And I think that process goes all the way to the convention."

While the DNC has no rules requiring pledged delegates won in primaries and caucuses to vote for the candidate, the people who serve as pledged delegates are selected by the campaigns who won them and loyalty is a key qualification.

Obama currently leads in the delegate count, 1,634-1,500, according to The Associated Press. Because of the way Democrats apportion delegates, Clinton is not projected to catch Obama even if she has a strong showing in the remaining 10 contests.

Neither candidate can win based solely on pledged delegates. The nominee is likely to be chosen by some 800 superdelegates — elected officials and party insiders free to side with any candidate they choose.

Clinton's comments came as one of her prominent supporters and superdelegates, New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine, said he would consider switching to Obama if Clinton doesn't win the popular vote.

In an interview with CNBC, Corzine expressed confidence that Clinton will pull ahead. And he agreed the race will be over if she doesn't get a "big win" in the Pennsylvania primary April 22.

"You have to have a real cut into this popular vote and I think she's going to get it, though," he said. "I feel good about that."

Obama leads Clinton by about 740,000 votes out of more than 28 million cast. That figure excludes the outcome of the Michigan and Florida primaries, which were nullified because the two states moved their contests into January in violation of Democratic Party rules.

Clinton won both Michigan and Florida, and she and her supporters have pushed to have the votes from those contests counted. Obama's lead would shrink to about 120,000 votes if the results of the January contests were recognized. Michigan Democrats are expected Friday to rule out holding a do-over election to replace the results of the Jan. 15 primary, The Associated Press has learned.

Corzine said it would be hard for Obama to argue to superdelegates that he should be the nominee if he loses the bigger states, but "I think you need at least a popular vote" to win the nomination.

Asked whether he would cast his superdelegate vote for Obama if he were ahead in the popular vote in the end, Corzine said he didn't think that would be an issue but he's "reserving the right."

At the news conference, Clinton also:

_Denied telling New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson that Obama can't win the general election. Richardson endorsed Obama.

"That's a no," Clinton said when asked if she made the comment. "We have been going back and forth in this campaign of who said what to whom and let me say this, that I don't talk about private conversations but I have consistently made the case that I can win."

_Sidestepped questions about whether she or her husband discussed the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Obama's controversial former pastor, when making their case to superdelegates. In an interview this week, Clinton adviser Harold Ickes acknowledged raising the subject of Wright and his anti-American sermons with superdelegates, saying Republicans would use the issue against Obama if he became the party's nominee.

"I think most people have made up their minds about what they think of it," Clinton said of the Wright matter. "Certainly it was heavily in the news and people sometimes have it on their minds. I think most voters process it and figure out what they think about it."

Campaigning in Altoona, Pa., former President Clinton criticized Democrats who have suggested his wife bow out.

"They're telling you, 'Oh don't worry, this doesn't matter, and it's OK if we disenfranchise Michigan and Florida, we got this deal under control. You guys just be quiet and go away,'" Bill Clinton said. "Let me tell you something. I've been in politics a long time. People don't tell you your votes don't count unless they do."

Good Lord - hopefully if the polls are right in PA and she only wins by a few, the SuperDs end this before June.

How about I just post it here.......

"Today is the 40th anniversary of the tragic assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and I want to share a video that reveals how far we've come and how much this campaign owes to Dr. King's legacy.

Students at a high school in the Bronx, who had no real interest in their government, have found new hope. They were surprised by their own excitement and engagement, but to me, they embody so many reasons why Barack and I decided to get into this campaign.

It's truly moving to see young people inspired by a political leader -- someone who gives them hope and reminds them that they can be anything they want to be if they work hard.

Watch what these kids have to say about politics and race in this country:

Much has changed in this country since Dr. King's death, and thanks to his life and work we have taken critical strides towards racial equality.

The simple fact that Barack is running a competitive campaign for President is a direct result of Dr. King's legacy -- and this movement for change would be impossible without the support of people of all races, ages, and backgrounds.

I remember back in December of 2006, a group of us were discussing the possibility of Barack running for President. And as you might have read, I was hesitant about the idea.

But then Barack started talking about why he really wanted to do this -- to bring people together and to change the tone of the way we talk to each other in this country. He talked about the need for people to be inspired by their leaders, and the importance of leadership to chart a different course. He talked about Dr. King and Bobby Kennedy, and their passion to challenge a new generation and provide them with role models.

Barack promised that as a candidate and as President he would do everything he could to bring new people to the table. He shared his desire to reach out to our neglected inner cities, to strive to be a role model for young people, and to connect with people who are not involved in politics -- those who feel their voices haven't been heard, those who have been left behind, and those who have been turned off by all the petty bickering in recent years.

We can change that, by standing on the shoulders of folks like Dr. King who came before us.

Watching these students who are excited about their own role in politics for the first time, and watching Barack as he strives to live up to the challenges Dr. King made possible, I am truly touched.

I hope you'll watch this video and share that feeling with your friends and family:

Thank you,

Michelle Obama"

Thanks for posting!! Don't know why I didn't get this one!

You're welcome....you will probably get it later today......

No email either (maybe we aren't on the VIP list ;)) but thanks for sharing that. I loved that video of the Bronx students. :thumbsup2

No video for me either. But thanks for posting. I guess I need to send Barack more $$.

Dr. King is my hero. If I tell you how old I was when he died you'll know I'm 58 now! Ooops.;) I was a kid during the civil rights protests of the sixties but I wanted so very badly to participate. I tried to convince my parents I needed to be there and tried to get them to drive them from our midwest farm to Mississippi or Alabama or anywhere I could find Dr. King and the protesters. My parents were sympathetic but I didn't get to go.

When I heard he'd been killed I went to bed for two days. I remember it as if it were yesterday. When Bobby Kennedy died later that same year I was sure the world would end.

If is was a question of $$$ trust me , I would not have gotten the email. I only donated once (so far).

I was 5 when he was murdered....so I don't remember much. I recall a funeral on TV but I am not sure if it was MLK or Bobby K'S. My mother must have been watching.......

I wasn't even born during the movement (but shortly thereafter), I have paid particular attention this week at what has been on the airwaves... The History channel has a program Sunday at 8pm, I plan to watch. I always heard the stories, my kids heard or hear the stories, but I don't think any of us have actually GOTTEN it. I think we'll get it now...

I was in second grade, and I remember the Sisters crying over both MLK and RFK. They brought TV's into the classrooms and we watched the funerals during the school day.

My MIL ( a former Bush fan) and I were talking after obamas race speech...

she remembered traveling to the south with her parents...and the segregated fountains...
she was a young girl and stepped off of the sidewalk to let an older woman pass her.....well in the south this older woman was not supposed to let a young white girl do that for her.....so she stepped off of the curb and walked out in the street around my MIL...
My MIL will never forget that...

I am working on her to get her to vote for Barack....
