Has anyone stayed here????? We are coming down for a softball tournament in July and we are looking for some nice clean condos for 12 families.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for your help

I toured this resort back in '98. It is owned (or at least it was) by Vistana. Not sure what happened since Sheraton has bought over Vistana. As I recall, there were two pools & a kiddie pool and a small lake. There was also a whirlpool outside. The villas were clean, nice decor, but smaller than the main Vistana's. They have tennis and basketball courts, a children's playground & a fitness center. They had a laundry facility on the grounds and as I recall it was free, so I'm thinking they didn't have washer/dryers inside the villas. The Osceola Square Mall was across the street.

I haven't heard any recent reviews of this resort so I can't offer much in way of information. Perhaps you can check the boards on TUG : http://www.tug1.net/cgi-bin//Ultimate.cgi?action=agree (you'll need to register---it's free)

Also, I found some reviews here : http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Re...-Oak_Plantation_Resort-Kissimmee_Florida.html

and : http://www.hotelkingdom.com/hoteldetails.aspx?hotel_id=723&hotelid=723

Maybe someone with some more recent experience will post a reply. Good luck :wave2:

SRburks,
I checked on the TUG (timeshare users group) website and the most recent review was from 2003. Looks like washer/dryers are in units. I can't link to that site because it's password-protected.
But here's an exert of reviews :

1/18/03 Owner: No Our group had a total of 5 units for the week, a 2BR, 3 1 BR and a deluxe 1 br. The 2 BR was very nice and spacious, as was the deluxe 1 BR. The regular 1 Br although small, were still nice. We had a family of 4 in one of the regular 1 BR and they were comfortable.
Kitchen was adequate with the minimal pots and pans we have come to expect with a timeshare unit.
2 BR and deluxe 1 BR had full washer/dryer, small 1 BR had combo washer/dryers which were inefficient.
The resort was very quiet and the staff was quite polite. Check-in was very fast for all 5 units.
The grounds were very well maintained and quiet.
The pool area was small but adequate for us, after all this is a disney area resort! We weren't here to swim!
We had only one significant complaint- the smell of smoke! There are no non-smoking units at the resort, and one of our rooms absolutely reeked of smoke. They came and used a ozone unit to decrease the smell, but only partially succeeded.
The resort is a little out of the way, it took about 20-25 minutes to get to the Disney parks. We didn't mind because we gained quiet and easy access to conveniences such as the Walmart and restaurants.
Without the smoke smell I would give the resort a 8.5. With the smoke, I would have to give it a 7.

7/26/02 Owner: No Basically, Oak Plantation reminded me of an apartment complex. It has a nice lake wtih picnic areas and areas to sit. It also had a nice pool area, with large hot tub and kiddie pool. It is not noticeably modern but the facilities are standard, maintained and clean. Service was excellent. I accidentally locked the oven with our dinner in it and couldn't open it because it was set on the clean cycle (by accident) and in seconds they had a maintenance tech over to unscrew the latch and opened it. I also had to call for extra serving dishes, blankets, pillows, paper towels and they had the stuff to me in a flash. They also cleaned the grill for me before I cooked on it. All you have to do is ask and they respond. The atmosphere was very relaxed and friendly, like a small neighborhood with lots of old oak trees.
The resort is close to Vine street which is also W. Irlo Bronson Hwy. It's close to a SuperWalmart, fast food places, drug stores etc. If you go by way of John Young and Ocala (can't remember the names of the streets, AAA gave me real easy routes that avoided the W. Irlo B traffic) it takes about 15 minutes to get to Disney area.
The downside was that they have very limited recreation equipment/activities and although they had water aerobics, pool games etc, there was not anything for teenagers. Bingo was offered only on Sunday evenings.
They provided dishwashing soap/detertgent and paper towels/basic bath soap, lotion and shampoo but no laundry soap.

If you'd like to hear anymore, please feel free to PM me. I don't suggest emailing me because I've gotten several messages from people here on the DIS saying they emailed me and I never received anything. I don't think the function is working from these boards. But if you want to PM, I'll give you my email address. TUG just has too much to post here.
Hope this helps

Thanks for all of your help. I am so confused by all of the choices in Orlando and I have been to Disney 15+ times.

We just stayed there this past November for a week. Myself, DH and DD. We had a one bedroom. What do you want to know? I noticed they were in the process of remodeling with new carpets, blinds and furniture. The unit I had had a full size Fridge, range, oven, dishwasher, and mini combo washer/dryer unit. I found it to be clean and I was concerned from alot of the negative reviews I found on Tripadvisor. The heated pool and large 10 person jacuzzi was wonderfull. It is gated and you open the gate using your resort card so I did feel safe. Speaking of safe, there is one in the huge walkin closet off of the master bedroom. We had an issue with the washer/dryer combo and they immediately addressed it. Would I recommed? Yes, BUT I have been trying to plan another trip and have discovered that the big 3 internet travel places I use are not offering Oak Plantation. This causes concern for me. Why? Did I just luck out? My family loved this place, the basketball hoop, the pool area, the charming lake.... they would go back in a heartbeat!! If you have any more questions, Please ask away......That is what is great about the DIS board, we are here to help each other!! :wave2:

I giggled at the review from 7/6/02 saying it felt like an apartment complex. Guess what? It used to be one! I lived there when I was a WDW CM in 1995. I'd love to go back now that it's a resort to share some family history with the kids: DH and I shared our first kiss in that hot tub! :love2:

I absolutely loved living there. It felt like a resort even back in its apartment days. At the time, I worked in the Disney gifts shops in the hotels on Hotel Plaza Blvd (Downtown Disney area) and could get to work in about 20 minutes. My apartment was a small 1BR on the ground floor, had a woods view, and was always very quiet. Never any noises from upstairs and very few passers-by on the woods side of the building. No washer/dryer in my size unit, however, unless Vistana has made some structural changes.

That's an interesting bit of trivia ! Thanks for sharing.
I'm glad you and L107Angel were able to give some additional info to the OP. It's good to know that remodeling is going on.

We rented two separate units a year and a half ago and loved it. I know if you do a search you'll see other reviews.

We just got back this Sunday from Oak Plantation and really really enjoyed it! Everyone else pretty much said all that was needed... very nice, clean, quik service (there is no housekeeping, so when we requested towels/washrags etc. they were there within 10 minutes every time!)

Pool area was great!! They have daily activities by the pool area. A few while we were there were... hair wrapping, bubble blowing, cookie decorating, pizza and soda (a few things cost a dollar or two) and on Wed. night's they have one of those in-pool movies where you sit in the pool and they pull out a huge screened TV and show a movie. They give you popcorn with it as well. There are two pools (right by each other, but the complex is small enough that you could walk to it) and a HUGE whirpool spa tub which was GREAT! Kiddie area has a zero depth entry and has 4 colored tubes in the middle of it that shoot out water in different ways. We could have easily spent a whole day by the pool!!

The rooms are very nice, ours wasn't as big as all the pictures we saw, but great nontheless! It was a one-bedroom villa. The king bed was MASSIVE! We beleive it was a California King bed. It was very comfy!! The pull out sofa bed was very nice, as well! Yes, each villa has a mini waher/dyer combo in it, we only washed as it took more than 3hrs to dry the clothes, so we just dryed in their laundry facitily which actualy at the time didn't have anywhere to insert coins, so drying was free. Walk-in closet was great, too!

Only thing we didn't like was it took us about 15-20 min to get on Disney property. :wizard:

Hope this helps! If you have any Qs, ask away!

Just wanted to add something about the two units we had:

My parents had a smaller one bedroom with small washer/dryer and a small table for 2

We had a massive one bedroom with full size washer/dryer and a large living room/dining room space enough to seat 6. We had a full bathroom which you had to enter into the bedroom to use.

The fridge was full size as was the stove.

Thanks again, for all of the information. I can pass it onto the parents of our girls on the softball team. Does anyone know any shortcuts from that complex. We will be playing softball at the Wide World of Sports and I don't know my way around Orlando. We have always stayed on property.

Also did anyone see any bigger units than 1 bedroom units? I think that it will be nice for the girls to have all of those activities.

thanks so much for making our decision a little bit easier. :sunny:

They do have very nice 2 bedrooms. Have a wonderfull time!

You take a right onto 192 and follow the signs to MK/DW or hop on I4 and follow signs!

Thanks, again.

It looks like we will probably stay there. I am sure it will be fine for our families.

When I drove to work, I would make a right out of the complex and then make a right onto 192. I'd go for a mile or two, pass Medieval Times, and then make a right onto 535. The entrance to Hotel Plaza Blvd/the Downtown Disney area is on your left a few miles up the road, past the entrance ramps for I-4.

I preferred driving through Disney property to get to other Disney destinations rather than taking 192 any further than I had to. The traffic lights really kill your time!

One question: Where do I book the Oak Plantation Resort?? What website? I find it on Expedia.com but that's about it. And they don't offer the 2 Bedroom units.
Thanks for any help,
Debbie
