NYE transportation time

This will be my fourth New Years at Disney, and I usually open Epcot on New Years Eve, so I have thankfully never been caught in huge traffic. I have breezed there like any other day.

This year, we are staying at Coronado Springs and plan to arrive at Epcot in time for my 12:45 reservation at Via Napoli (at the very back of the park). I am thinking two hours is enough transportation time and time to herd ourselves to the back of the park. Is that right, or should I give myself more time? I have teenagers this year, and sleeping in has been specifically requested for this day.

Seems like it took me two and a half to three hours to get from Bay Lake Tower into Epcot around that time on NYE last year. Not only is traffic a problem, but the line to get through the gates took at least 45 minutes at 1pm.

Ellen broke down on NYE last year. That was our plan, too.

We did RD at Epcot several years ago. Crowds were fantastic until about 2 pm. Then it was crazy. The crowd was wall to wall walking around the lake, as a couple people slide out of the wall, a couple slide into the empty space. It continued until Illuminations, where everyone stopped and turned to,watch the show, then it continued on. We decided to leave after the first show. Thankfully we got to our car, and back to CBR in only an hour and 15 minutes. We had the TV on and watched reporters showing and talking about the crowds dicipating from the parks, and the roads just being parking lots essentially...staying the extra 2 hours would have made the trip to CBR a 2+ hour adventure at best... Go early, leave early, shift sleeping in to going to bed earlier... So worth it to avoid that NYE crowd of insanity...

But, why would you go on NYE and not expect the insane crowds tho?

You might want to consider taking a cab to Boardwalk Inn, then walking over to the International Gateway entrance. For about $20, you'd probably reduce your transportation time to Via Napoli by at least an hour.
