Ok I will start out by saying I know most people will probably think we are nuts LOL but we just planned an extremely last min trip to DW for the week after xmas.

We haven't been since 10 and had to cancel trips in 14 and then again for this June (we were supposed to have been there the 3rd through the 15th) I didn't think we were going to be able to go now for years because of my kids school schedules (both in HS) but we just got back from our alternate vacay plans (did a trip to the south) and had an AMAZING time. My mom said she had so much fun she wanted to do a xmas trip. Well we had deposited a week for our timeshare for this trip in June and were able to pay to extend it. So I said what about DW. She said yes and yesterday we were able to find a room. This is all crazy cuz usually for ANY time of year you have to book the timeshare a year in advance etc. Plus I am usually planning that far out and I have never tried to put something together this quick. Good news is my 180 days isn't till next Wed so I didn't miss that. I know I am going to have a heck of a time getting anything as it is since we aren't staying onsite but my question is our last day is NYE. It is also my daughter's birthday and so I planned to go to HS. We usually never go on a Sat and would def not go on NYE but that is just the way it had to go to do everything in the time we have.

So my question is do you think that place will hopefully be the least crowded? I know EVERYTHING prob will but I assumed that things like MK and Epcot would be more popular. Do you think each park will have their own NYE fireworks? Just trying to figure everything out since never been that time of year.

Thanks so much!!

My sister and I went over NYE a few years ago before all the changes started at DHS. We actually got our party hats and noise makers on the way out of MK and took the bus over to DHS. The crowd is going to be what it is, but I can tell you that the fireworks were absolutely spectacular. We ended up sitting on our blankets right along the main street just where you turn to go down to RNR. There were people everywhere but everyone was enjoying the music (prior to fireworks) and dancing and having a great time. The fireworks ~ WOW!!! They were going off all over the place ~ in front of us, overhead, behind us, etc. It was a fantastic experience. Getting out really wasn't that bad. Of course you have to wait for the bus if you are using Disney's transportation system, but it really was pretty orderly with people leaving, not a lot of pushing and shoving or anything. Maybe everyone was in such a good mood for the holiday! Hope you have a wonderful time.

Let me start by saying that I love the idea of taking a trip this time of year. My NYE 2010 trip was the best NYE I've ever had.

Least crowded park is a relative term that time of year. They will all be 10/10 packed to the gills. DHS may have fewer people, but Epcot has more space to accommodate the crowds (and more restaurants to service demand). Three parks have fireworks at midnight, traditionally, so no reason to think DHS wouldn't have a show this year. AK may do something this year, too (it's the first year they are staying open late). I say pick the park that you most want to spend the day at and go there. Staying offsite, plan to get there at RD and stay until well past midnight so that you don't get shut out by park closed to capacity. It's a marathon day, so plan accordingly. Make dining reservations for early lunch and late dinner to give yourself a chance to rest throughout the day. And prepare to settle in for fireworks by 9 or 10 (latest) that night (some people start settling in at 7).

Thanks so much. That is what I figured. We did DL on NYE once in 13 for my daughter's birthday and it was the same. We got there at Rope Drop and did lunch at Blue Bayou for her birthday (planning on Brown Derby this time) and we sat in our spot at least 4 hours early. Problem is it was FREEZING and we ended up leaving before Midnight. My daughter was furious with me LOL. I am hoping it won't be TOO cold although I know went in over Thanksgiving and first week of Dec in 08 and it was actually pretty cold. If we can bring blankets that's smart! I figured everything would be packed but I thought that would hopefully be the least (eventhough prob still nuts) since so much stuff is down.

Thanks again and hoping it all works and we have fun!

We did New Year last year and it was fantastic. You have to take a deep breathe and realize it will be packed. Make ADRs to eat. Everything will be packed. Remember that the NYE fireworks in Magic Kingdom will also be shown on Dec 30th. You may want to go to MK on the 30th to see them then! This worked out great for us. It was still packed but not packed beyond belief as it is on the 31st. MK was at capacity on the 31st early in the day.

Take it slow and easy and realize you will most likely only be able to get your FP rides. Everything else will be hours wait.

We did this past NYE at Disney. MK on the 30th to see their NYE fireworks, then Epcot on NYE. Get to see them both and the atmosphere at Epcot on NYE is fantastic. Best fireworks, dance parties, drinks. Only way to do it imo.

HS fireworks won't come close to Epcot or MK's, and MK is beyond packed since early in the morning on NYE.
