NYC... safe walking area?

Breakway (or any non-DCL ship sailing out of NYC) is irrelevant since the OP's daughter would be a DCL entertainer. I know that a number of cruises leave from New York.
I did look at the DCL and there are no currently listed cruises departing from NYC. Even if they have one "every few years", still seems weird to base people there (especially during the years when they aren't sailing from there), since you'd have to fly them to the actual ports. Especially given that NYC is not a cheap city (I could sort of see it if it were a cheap city and, even with the additional airfares, the total expense was less than being based in the actual port city. Just seems like an interesting (read, weird to me) move on DCL's part.

Why New York? I didn't think any DCL ships sailed out of New York - seems weird to base cruise workers somewhere that no ships sail out of.

I only mentioned Breakaway because you stated that NO ships sail out of NY and that was not true. I was not sure if you were aware that we do have cruise ships that leave from there.

You're worrying about walking in Manhattan?

Come to east flats bush and walk around - she'll be more than fine

if they only do the nyc port every few years then she would be moved to the other ships that go out of other ports

Oh, I see. Sorry, I see now that I only specified "DCL ships" with the first sentence and didn't repeat it (though I meant it) with the second. Sorry about that.

Give it a rest. No one said there isn't any crime in Manhattan. There almost 3 million people in Manhattan every day. I'm sure you could find similar stories about every big city.

The Feds don't seem to think so, since they aren't sending the AFT in to every big city. But they are concerned enough about growing gun crime in NYC to be sending the AFT into help the NYC police handle the growing lawless mayhem brought on by DiBlasio repealing stop and frisk:

Okay, you're right and we're wrong. You just know so much more than we do.

Sigh. Whatever. I'll continue to live my life and walk around NYC at all hours. And continue to enjoy it.

OP, if you somehow make it out of the city alive, come back and tell us how the audition went.

Will do! We have the hotel and train tickets. Now the hard part- deciding which show to see! We are leaning towards Curious Incident, but King and I is tempting; such a classic, and to see it on Broadway? Or Les Mis or Phantom. Might throw all caution (and money) to the wind and see a matinee AND an evening performance! Between rush tickets and TKTS, this trip should only cost about as much as next month's mortgage, LOL!

You do realize the nyc isn't even in the top ten of the county's most dangerous cities right? I know facts aren't as much fun as fearmongering but they are facts. And Manhattan where the op is going is a long way away from where the lovely crime scene photos you like to post are located.
Did you post on the thread about the inner harbor in Baltimore? Because that is in the top ten most dangerous cities. Or really any trip to Florida because they have several cities in the top twenty or is your fearmongering limited to nyc?
And the atf has helped police is such dangerous cities as Wichita, St. Louis, Pensacola etc

Yep, if you come to Jacksonville, avoid the West and North sides. Apparently they are very very dangerous.

Every big city has it's skeevy areas. Every big city is going to have its crime scenes. Stop trying to freak people out, jeez.

(BTW, are you CandyMany, dinolounger? Your posting style seems like that ones....)

There seems to be a reading comprehension issue here. OP asked for opinions regarding a very specific 10-block area of Midtown Manhattan. Dinolounger doesn't understand exclusion/inclusion criteria and starts posting links to irrelevant "facts". When people point out that his links don't logically bear out his argument, he rebuts with yet more irrelevant links. I really doubt ATF is focusing their efforts on Midtown. Dinolounger, did you research the location and circumstances of those murders before posting? I can clearly see that one of them isn't in the area in question.

You don't appear to live or work there and seem to have no real interest whatsoever in helping OP. You have a political axe to grind with de Blasio, and posting multiple pics of murder victims to further your agenda is beyond distasteful.

Exactly. Only one of those pictures is from midtown Manhattan. The second picture was taken outside the Empire State Building. It's the body of a man that was killed by police after he came to his old job and started shooting at his former co-workers.

The rest of the pictures are from Queens or Brooklyn. Two of them are pictures of policemen that were killed in the line of duty.

dinolounger, is there a reason you have such a strong agenda with crime in New York? Seems a bit extreme in my opinion. Just curious...

Whoo Hoo!!
Altho we saw a Musical we had seen already-seeing ANY musical in a Broadway theater is SO MUCH BETTER than the venue the traveling shows go to(But I have to say the QUALITY was the same)

OP - check out discount tickets on broadwaybox.com I paid about $35 (before fees) for tickets to Phantom of the Opera for a Monday 8pm. They were balcony but we could see fine. Seeing two broadway plays in one trip sounds great. If you haven't already, check out experiencetheride.com - DD14 and I really enjoyed it and will probably do it again when dh and dd11 are with us.

Dinolounger you are exactly what I experienced when we were in FL with your preconceived ideas. No one says there is no crime, but it is considered safer than many. I saw worse things in Miami when were there. Have you ever been to NYC? Not only do I encourage at least once in your lifetime visiting, but take the train and go just minutes outside of the City into places like the Hudson Valley and along the Hudson River. NYC is exciting and full of culture, but also has mountains, beaches just minutes from the City, and history. You will see some of the most beautiful country you will ever see in the United States in NY. Trust me, we camp and travel all over. You can boat, kayak, hike, explore charming towns, visit historical places.
