Hi, my family (me,dh and 2 boys 13 and 6) and my mom, step-dad and brother (11) are going into the city on Saturday and I need some ideas of a fun place to eat for dinner. I'd love to hear some suggestions. Thanks!

I'll have to admit, Carmine's is one of my guilty pleasures that I'd never admit to my foodie friends, kinda like my monthly Big Mac craving. However, if you're looking for a great NYC restaurant experience, there are far better alternatives. Soooo....we need a bit more info. What kind of food do you like and what exactly do you mean by fun? Like cheesy tourist fun or great food and atmosphere fun?

Since you have kids with you I would suggest Mars 2112. The food is just average but the kids will enjoy the Martian landscape theme and the Martians walking around. They also have a game room.

:sad2: Begging you to not go there. It's horrible. The staff is obnoxious and couldn't be bothered and the food is awful. And WAAAAAY overpriced.

Favorite for a GOOD meal
Becco!- italian (lidia bastiano= Felidia's cheaper restaurant) yummy pasta!

Well we'll have 3 kids with us so kid friendly is very important. We like all kinds of food. We were looking at Ellen's Stardust Diner, has anyone been there?

Yeah I don't think the kids would like the alien theme too much. I think we want to stick with stuff like burgers, sandwiches, etc.

My daughter wanted to stop there last night. She has been there and loved it..I enjoyed Mars and also Jekyll and Hyde with kids.

If your kids are all boys I would go to one of the two themed restaurants above.

sorry, I see you said all the kids were boys!

Ellens is fun for breakfast. I have not been there later in the day so I don't know.

Juniors is good Deli kind of food right smack in the middle of the theater district.

Ellen's is great with kids. It's crowded and loud and just like NY. The singing waitstaff is really fun. I think the food is actually ok.

We're going to Becco this Saturday night!! You have to call for reservations 30 days prior to the date you want (like WDW), I doubt there's any reservations available, but you could always try for cancellations.

we were there in Feb and my daughter really enjoyed it. She's 12. had a great time. Lots of fun.

Hi,

We're flying into LGA from MN on sat!. This is all new to us, so have no idea where to eat.

We staying in Chelsea.

I'm getting ideas from your thread.

Have a great time.

herc.

For a simple hamburger place I love Burger heaven and was there last night..It is on 49t off 5th. They have a large menu, not cheap, but certainly less then a restaurant.
Not far from the tree and right next to the American Girl store..(I know the boys are thrilled :goodvibes )

My tired, cold and cranky 8 year old Grandson said it was the best hot dog and the best Mac and Cheese he ever had! And he is the pickiest eater, EVER!!

Great shakes too!

I took the kids and DW to NYC for the first time a few weeks ago. We ended up eating dinner at Ellen's Stardust Diner per a relative's suggestion.

We all enjoyed it, and you don't have to worry about the kids getting loud, because it's pretty loud to begin with. My cousin had mentioned that the price was fairly reasonable as well. I guess so, if hamburgers, fries and chicken fingers at $100 for five is reasonable in New York.

We liked it.

Yes, unfortunately it is.

If you're looking for casual burgers, Shake Shack (renown chef Danny Meyer's burger place) in Madison Square Park is fantastic. They typically stay open until Xmas Eve and have heating lamps for alfresco dining. No reservations necessary. Here's their site: http://www.shakeshacknyc.com/
