NYC CRUISES PLANNING/INFO ThREAD!

THANK YOU both:goodvibes
I think I'm going to wait until before our NY-Canada cruise next summer and make the Times Square Disney Store a special stop before the cruise! Thanks SO much for the help and the offer to buy and send for me - DISsers are THE BEST:love:!

:thumbsup2 Your welcome! I think shopping in person is always the best anyway!

Oh - I used to work right there. I have mixed feelings about EOS in NYC (or anywhere else for that matter). That is my special Disney place and I don't know if I want to eat there not at Disney - although it would be very tempting. We are heading down to Disney for Thanksgiving and I can't wait to get their Holiday Sandwich.

Linda

I've eaten at both EOS in Disney and Las Vegas and can't wait to eat at the NYC one. Orlando one is still the best can't wait to get a sandwich there at the end of this month:goodvibes

What about taking AMTRAK directly from Wilmington or Dover to Penn Station, NY?

I haven't priced it yet, but have heard it may be a good option. We always go in the day before the cruise (our of FL), but since we are only two hours away from the port, I don't see any reason to waste that money. I'll have to check the rates :)

There is now an EOS in the Philadelphia airport (haven't checked it out as we were there in the early am).

Can someone tell me approximately how much a cab from Penn Station (Amtrack) to the port would run? There would be two adults (if that matters, I've never been in a cab).

$15 maybe depending on traffic. Cab fares aren't determined by how many people. Penn Station is on West 34th St & 8th Ave. The port is on W 55 St & 12th Ave. It may even be less.

We are considering taking AMTRAK from Union Station in DC to Penn. We haven't decided yet if we'll go up a day or two early and spend some time in the city first.

Thanks for posting about the Raddison. It was the cheapest place I'd seen so far in a good "touristy" location. We are booked at $230 a night for 4 nights prior to our cruise. I'll keep my eye out for anything better, but for now it will be the plan.

Now to create our list of what we want to do during those four days!

I had read that, I don't flying out of Philadelphia(did only one time, back in 2005), I fly out of Newark since it is only a hour and Philadelphia is two hours away.

I have to remember to check this out when we get home. We are doing the five night. Do yo know if parking is 'per day or per night' at either the port or this other Metropark? (Heard from friends on the Dream and one of the lots there was per day not per night, so it was a little more then they had expected).
Parked at Metropark last Thurs. and their parking rates are based on blocks of hours. I paid $5 to park for roughly 13 hours. Their 24 hour parking rate is $9. I don't know if there is a rate in between the 2. If I go back up on Tues. I'll check the rates.

I've priced Amtrak in the past from Wilmington and it's usually $150 r/t and you have to reserve times. I'm so used to going up and coming back on my own schedule that driving up to Metropark in NJ and then taking NJTransit into Penn Station is the way to go for me.
For the 3 of us to go to NYC for the day it runs around $100 or so with NJTransit tickets ($20 r/t per person), parking, gas and tolls. If we were to take Amtrak it wouldn't be worth it for us to go for the day.

We paid off our cruise and got an email from our TA that we could book spa treatments and such. Not believing that I went to try to do that and found the interary and it said that there will be a pirate deck party on day 4 in Halifax:cheer2:

Just wanted to let everyone know that the Grand Hyatt New York at Grand Central has some pretty good rates going on right now. I plugged in 2A 2C for 2 nights starting 8/23/2012 & it gave me $279/night. That's not bad for such a central location. Grand Central Station is just a handful of blocks from Times Sq and a quick taxi ride to the port across town.

Oh and they're done or almost done completely renovating everything so it's all brand spanking new!

First of all - congratulations on paying off your cruise.

Oh, thank you so much. So happy to hear this.

Can't wait.

Linda

Thanks for the Hyatt news. I was planning on a hotel near the airport, but at this rate, I booked it. Happy that we'll be in Manhattan the night before our cruise!

I'm hoping now that the itineries for the Dream and the Fantasy have been released and the rush is over for bookings, we will get some information about the NYC cruises. I don't know if I'm crazy to stress about the little things or just a planner in nature, but I would like to get updated on the following:

How will the transportation to and from WDW be arranged? Will they have a certain number of buses scheduled to leave at various time intervals? I would assume it would be first come first serve and be dropped off and picked up at the transportation and ticket center.

I know that the park hopper pass is included for the price of the cruise, but I'm hoping that they may consider including a dining plan also. I think its fair due to cost savings for not eating on the Magic. Maybe if everyone will e-mail DCL, they may think about including this option. If not, I wonder if they will allow us to pack a lunch and take it with us.

Will there be a pirates night, if so, what evening will it be on? I like to request Parrot Cay on that evening. What night will formal be? I would rather make a ressie for Paulo on that night.

Will we be able to take alcohol on board? Three kids and a MIL for 8 nights may require a few extra libations. :rotfl2:
