Nudity in Gym Locker Rooms.

ex·hi·bi·tion·ist /ˌɛksəˈbɪʃənɪst/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[ek-suh-bish-uh-nist] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
–noun 1. a person who behaves in ways intended to attract attention or display his or her powers, personality, etc.
2. Psychiatry. a person afflicted with the compulsions of exhibitionism.

.

It would only be exhibitionism if it were done outside the locker room.

Locker rooms sole purpose is for same sex people to change. That automatically involves nudity.

Our gym has rules on this...they actually went through a BIG remodel, and they now have 4 options for locker rooms. 18+ only
familes with kids 4 and under
single style mini locker rooms for families of any age
kids only boys/girls locker rooms for 10+

I really do not get walking around in the locker room naked as the day you were born...but lots of women do it.

Funny story on this line. . .

I was in the gym this morning taking a shower. Someone came into the locker room talking on their cell phone. The proceeded to sit in front of the showers talking on the phone the entire time I was in the shower. Well, I toweled off and got my drawers on behind the curtain, when I got out, the talker was still on the phone, and had turned the chair to face the shower stall I was in.

Kind of creepy

I hope this stays in the right thread this time.

Ick. I don't know why anyone needs to be walking around naked in a locker room, children present or not. I don't want to see it either. And it's usually the old women too.

.

:rolleyes1

We have women ranging from High school girls to several lovely seniors in their 70's every AM by 6:30 am. I say bravo to the elderly ladies who are out there exercising ! Most of the younger ones, (hose under 65) then have to get showered and dressed for school and work, it's a mad scramble and noone has their kids with them. Any with really young children leave them at the on site daycare.

Personally, I HATE when women use the showers just for changing. They are showers, not your personal changing room. Only 6 showers? If everybody uses those to change in, then the people who really want to take showers have to wait. And using the handicapped shower to change - pretty rude.

The locker room is there for changing. The showers are for showering.

If a parent chooses to bring a opposite-sex child into a locker room, then that parent should expect that the child is going to see some nudity. They have to base their comfort level on that. It is after all, a locker room.

I think it wrong to expect the other patrons to cover up because the parent is uncomfortable, but still chooses to bring their child in the locker room.

I could never walk around naked because I don't want to sicken anybody with my cellulite encrusted body, but I also am not so uptight that the human body makes me uncomfortable. I have no problem with other women walking around naked in a locker room.

If somebody wants to walk around naked in a changing room, it is a changing room and that is their privilege. As long as they get dressed before they exit the locker room, I don't see a problem.

The showers are readily available and most who are changing are also showering. Parents, whose children participate in swimming, etc, really don't have much choice but to bring their children into the locker room. They need to watch them and the children need to change as well.

My gym has banned cell phones in the lockers because the person can take your picture and send it to someone!!!:scared1:

I don't care if my kids are with me or not- I don't want to see you parade around nude blow drying your hair, picking a zit, raising your leg to dry in front of me, and I especially do not want to have a conversation with you!!!! I have friends that I have known for 20 years and I have never seen them naked so I definetly don't want to trade grooming tips with a naked stranger!!!!:scared1: Cover your honkers and bits will ya!!!!

Oh my goodness! Ick! :scared1: I never thought of that! I already don't use the locker room because I'm skeeved out by the naked people walking around, but that makes me sure that I'll never use it now!

I SO agree! What is the deal with that?

I would prefer that they didn't sit on the bench however!:scared1:

Dawn, my dh was complaining about this in the men's locker room!! :lmao: He said there was a group of old guys who just stayed naked forever in the locker room. I totally got what you and he are saying. I grew up playing team sports all through school, and there are just some unwritten laws. When you're naked, you're supposed to be getting dressed or headed for a shower. Under no circumstances do you have a conversation that requires eye contact while you're naked, etc. You don't read a magazine, do your makeup etc, cause it's skeeving the rest of us out!:sad2:

Sorry, but I think that if you bring your kids into a locker room, you should expect that they will see naked people. If you don't like that, keep them out of the locker room.

I, btw, have kids and dh finds ways to avoid having them use the locker room if I'm not along.

Or they could be doing it out of spite. "Maybe if I walk around here naked all the time, Jane Smith won't bring her son in here anymore." Afterall, SHE is in the correct gendered locker room and should be able to walk around in her birthday suit all she wants.

Amen!

I am so tired of the entitlement mentality of parents. I am in a women's locker room, there are not even curtains on the shower stalls. I am in the right to be naked while I shower.

Your boy does NOT belong there. Take him through the mens room - it is not like there is anything in there you have never seen before.

Seriously - why not join a gym with a family changing area.

Well, kudos to you that are so 'comfortable' with the human body... But, no matter how darned comfortable YOU are, where is any respect for others and their comfort level????

I simply will not apologize for not desiring to see your completely naked body parading around, without even the use of a towel or underwear.

This is a very strange thread. I particularly liked the post asking for pictures. :lmao:

Two things.. Anyone who doesn't think there are a LOT of 7 year old boys who will indeed get their kicks while in the locker room... you are just plain WRONG. I used to babysit, and there are a couple of boys in that age group who would absolutely blow your mind. They are indeed male, and they are not blind.

And, sorry, but don't see myself actually paying money to this kind of facility if they do not even have some kind of shower curtain or partition. Ummmm, can't they afford them with all the money that they are asking???

I dont want to be around anyone of the same sex naked

And I simply will not apologize for your uncomfortableness in seeing a naked body in a locker room. Seems like this is a problem you need to deal with, not others working around your hang-ups.

It is a locker room. People change. Nakedness is expected. If nakedness was not expected, there would be separate rooms such as a dressing room in a department store. But since they are designed as one large room for everybody to change in, nakedness is not only the norm, but it is expected. Some people use towels, some don't. But it is their right, in a locker room, to change in the way the room was designed for.

If this makes you uncomfortable, you need to make other arrangements to get changed.

This I totally agree with. 7 year old boys should absolutely NEVER be in a women's locker room. They are definitely old enough to become aroused.

I agree. Our gym is another that has banned children of the opposite gender from either the men's or women's locker rooms and have provided family locker rooms.

Yep mine too (lifetime). The family locker rooms can get really crazy busy, but I have girls so it doesn't bug me too much. There are also changing rooms if you feel the need.

I am there a lot (not as much in the past few weeks.) :rolleyes1 You see the same people. I have nick names for many (that I only use in my head.)

There is naked chick, who is naked when I get there and change for my work out, and naked when I get back from my 30 min work out.

And don't forget 80's outfit chick that dresses from head to toe in 1980's outfits complete with accessories and leg warmers. :dance3:

The hair twins, 2 girls in their early 20's that come in every weekend not to work out at all, but use the locker rooms to wash and style their super long hair. :confused3 They could use a good work out, but spend hours on their hair. Why anyone pays their membership fees is beyond me.

Don't get me on sweaty smelly guy, but at least he isn't in the womens locker room. :scared1:
