now how about a room only discount????

I was always told-if you got the kids-go for free dining-if it's 2 or 3 then take the room discount... For instance-I'm going for my honeymoon and there's two of us-however, her cousin/husband and 3 kids as well as their aunt are going-so they need two rooms-they'll have to crunch the numbers I suppose-if you question it-just call, I did last night and the CM confirmed that the room discount was definitely better

You are right. If the four of us were going (my sons are 20 and 24 now) I would definitely go with the free dining promo. They love to it and I would upgrade to the table service plan by staying at a moderate resort, no way they are sleeping the same bed, especially if it is only a double one. I think I will go for the room discount promo if one comes out.

subbing- blocked out Oct 9- 18th - 1st time not having FD! Really hoping for a room discount!

Has there ever been a RO discount for royal palm club level at GF? Wondering if I should even get my hopes up?????

Really hoping for a RO discount for those folks going the first week of December. I thought that was going to be a great week to go...I'm nervous now.

We shall see...good luck to all of my DisPals!! pixiedust:

Jumping on board - wishing for an RO for the Yacht Club, October 28-31. DH and I are hoping to go to our first F&W. We've had the RO and FD in the past but didn't go last year and havn't used the PINs we got in last October for Dec. days. We can get the AAA, but honestly that RO would be grand. :surfweb: Getting blurred vision from looking for ROs!

OK, I know I should know this, but I've read so much now, I've lost it :-)

We're going week of October 5th... as of right now, free dining is out for that week. Hoping for maybe some kind of RO discount.

With that said, if I get a RO discount, can I still buy the dining plan? What exactly does "RO" mean?

Sorry if that's dumb.

Bruce

RO stands for "Room only"...it is the alternative to the Free Dining offer. From what I understand, you can have utilize the Free Dining Program or the Room only discount...but you cannot have both simultaneously.

Someone correct me if I am wrong...

Sorry, I wasn't very clear...

I realize I can't get both discounts, but if I get a room discount, can you still buy the dining plan? I'm confused by the "room only" aspect... i.e. OK, I get a discount on the room, but can I still add park passes, dining, etc. at my expense, or do I just reserve a room and have to get tickets, etc. elsewhere?

Thanks,
Bruce

If you were to get the room only discount...you can still purchase park tickets from Disney. Or you can purchase them elsewhere...I have saved a few bucks in the past buying from Undiscovered Tourist.

I was under the impression that you could only buy a dining plan if you either participated in Free Dining or purchased a Disney Vacation Package. Personally I'm not a fan of the Disney Vacation Package. I believe it is cheaper for me to secure a room only discount, and purchase my tickets and meals on my own.

Planning on going over Thanksgiving week. For us, I'm thinking FD is a better deal because I'm pretty sure not all of our nights on RO would be discounted.

Aren't there black out dates around the RO discounts? For example, RO discounts offered starting 11/23, but the room would be full rack rate for the last half of the trip on a 7 day trip.

You can book a package with tickets using the room discount and purchase the dining plan. :thumbsup2

Yes, you can still add park passes and dining, but the discount will only be on the room portion of your package.

ETA: Oops, I should have known Smitch would beat me to the answer :)

Thanks to you both!

Now just hoping for that Oct. 5th week... any part of it would help :-)

As the pp's said, you can get a discount on the room but still have a package with tickets and DDP (with the discount on the room portion only). With that said, you can't just "add" tickets and DDP to a room only reservation. If you book room only and want to change to a package later (room + tickets + DDP), the room only will have to be cancelled/refunded and a package booked, requiring a new $200 deposit. Room only and packages are different reservation systems, so money paid toward one cannot be applied to the other.

Yes, there usually are black out dates for RO discounts. And you are correct that RO discounts are date specific, so any nights not included in the promo would be at rack rate.
