Coming Soon: Disney MagicMobile Service, A Convenient New Way to Experience Walt Disney World Resort

The MagicBand, the colorful wristband guests wear at Walt Disney World Resort, makes each visit even simpler and more seamless. We’ve continued to invent and innovate, and soon, we’ll be debuting a new option: Disney MagicMobile service!

Launching in phases starting later this year, Disney MagicMobile service is a convenient and contactless way to access MagicBand features like theme park entry through the power of your iPhone, Apple Watch or other smart device. Guests will be able to create a Disney MagicMobile pass through the My Disney Experience app and add it to their smart device’s digital wallet. It works like magic – most features will be available by just holding up your smart device near an access point, just like you do with a MagicBand. Disney MagicMobile service and its features will roll out first on Apple devices.

Guests may choose to use Disney MagicMobile service or a MagicBand – pick whichever option works best for you during your visit. You can even use both and alternate between the two for added flexibility. We’ll also soon be introducing more MagicBands in trendy new colors and fun designs featuring favorite Disney characters and stories.

Our existing digital room key feature will continue to be available specifically within the My Disney Experience app, which helps guests expedite their arrival by using online check-in service, going directly to their Disney Resort hotel room and using their phone to unlock their door. Disney Resort hotel guests may also still pick up a Key to the World card at their convenience by visiting the front desk.

Stay tuned to the Disney Parks Blog for more information on Disney MagicMobile service and MagicBands!

I know the guys in my family will like this 👍

Thx for posting😊

Hmm... I don’t know how the technology works well enough to even know if this is a legit ask but I wish I could open the room using my device’s digital wallet like they are saying you will be able to do with park admission. That would be a lot easier than the rather clunky digital room key in the app (which doesn’t work for me most of the time anyway).

Curious to see how this all gets rolled out.

I don't know but it seems to me that it would work that way too.

You will just like you use your MB or your Smartphone using the MDE app to open your room The new Disney MagicMobile pass will work the same way.

Think of it as using it as you use your device's digital wallet for Apple Pay or using your stored Credit / Debit card. Apple watch example: 2 quick clicks and select your Disney MagicMobile pass from the list in your digital wallet.

ETA: Add more details...

My only question? Must I open Bluetooth on my phone, to WDW? I will never do this, over Security concerns.

No the smart devices use the NFC chip (Near Field Communication) technology. Not Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. For example all iPhones since iPhone 6 have a NFC chip so the digital wallet function will work without Bluetooth. All Apple watches since Series 3 also have NFC chips.

Note: iPhones 6 and 6S can be used to make NFC transactions but not to read NFC tags. OS 11 and later allows iPhones 7, 8 and X, 11, 12 to also read NFC tags.

Please note that the digital key function in MDE does require Bluetooth to open the resort room from your smartphone.

That's why they included this:

What do you do for children's tickets? Will you include all tickets on one phone? How do they track each ticket to each person? How new does your phone need to be? I take it a flip phone won't work.

Let's start with the easy part your existing or new MagicBand will still work along with current RF Plastic tickets just like they do today. This just a new option just like you can have multiple MBs assigned to an individual and use them interchangeably.

No an old style flip phone will not work it need to be a smartphone (there are some new folding smartphones) for MDE app access. For the Apple family iPhone 6 and later technically would work but iPhone 7 / 8 and up would a better choice.

We don't yet know if this new digital MagicMobile Pass will work with the new Apple Family Setup feature (Sept. 2020/watchOS 7) for family member watches that are managed. It would be a great add-on feature since managed watches have their own digital wallets.

You might think that my comment is "sad" @Dave006, but they should really invest their time and money in fixing faulty technology instead of trying to dazzle guests with something that will be just as buggy and eat up more phone battery life.

Been dying for something like this ever since I got my watch, I hate puck holders because the band designs are my favorite thing about MBs. I just wear both and put my band on my right wrist. Probably still will. I love collecting them. I do wish they could solve the annoyance of having to carry a physical AP card to get discounts, hopefully they will have a way of rolling it into the wallet.

I don’t understand the relentless negativity about anything new they introduce. Magic Bands are not going anywhere any time soon. I like having another option.

Ha Ha no my post was not concerning your decision to not jump for the new technology as a Beta tester for new smart device technology. :chat::yay:

This, from a company that can't get their websites and app to function properly a great deal of the time.
Your post is 100% on point. My "Sad' emoji reflects Disney's failure to address existing services like the website and MDE app functioning that made me sad. Once core functions are rock sold then "focus" on the bells and whistles.

The good news is that this new Disney MagicMobile service is 100% optional. Once the technology works you will not need to burn your smartphone battery but have the option for a new smart MB functionality on your wrist leveraging your existing smart devices. Since I wear a watch I don't like to also wear a MB or even reach for my smartphone all the time while on vacation.

Will this be supported by Android phones? Because I'm not getting an I-phone just for this.

It seems as though it will be rolled out in phases... they’re starting with Apple products. I assume Android should be shortly after 🙂
