November 26, 2005/ 7 day Eastern Magic

Katie's Mom,

Ron Jon's is a nice place. They have an awesome pool area with a lazy river. Mostly it is a Time Share, but they do rent out some rooms. My cousin stayed there last year. They had one problem with the neighbor's jacuzzi tub leaking into the closet that their suitcases were in. The management was not very helpful, just made them move to another room (and this was after midnight.) They have a web site, check it out.

The Radisson is nice too. Their pool area was the best around here until Ron Jon's was built. There are two other nice hotels for just staying in a hotel, (no fancy pools, just a regular one) the Courtyard and the Hampton Inn. They are side by side in Cocoa Beach, and they are newer and nice hotels.

As far as Daytona, the Sun Viking Lodge and Perry's used to be two of the nicer hotels. You'd have to check with them. I know they got hurricane damage last year, but they're probably okay by now.

I'm glad you're going to Kennedy Space Center. I work there, so I encourage everyone to come out and take a look. We have an awesome history.

Hope some of this helps.

Happy Birthday, and welcome to 40. I just turned 40 October 10 on the Carnival Glory Western Caribbean cruise. (We were in Cozumel about 5 days before Wilma hit.) We usually cruise in November for our anniversary on the 26th, but I just had to be out of the country to turn 40, so we snuck in an extra cruise this year. Actually we could have cruised twice on the Glory in a Verandah room on the Lido (9th deck) for the cost of one night in a porthole room on the 2nd deck of the Magic. But, you do get what you pay for!

Also, Boo MC, the Magic is the coldest of all the ships I've been on, so I would recommed a sweater. Of course, I'm a Floridian and you're from Michigan, so you may disagree.

Can't wait to meet you all.

You guys will probably hate me for bringing this up, but I was thinking about packing some 60's, 70's, and 80's looking stuff to wear to the dance parties. Looking at the Navigators from October, they have dance parties for those decades. I thought it would be fun to throw in a couple of wild outfits. I don't know if I'll be able to put something together for each one, but I'm giving it a shot. I'm pretty sure I still have clothes from the 80's packed away!! We are definitely doing the Pirate night.

See you real soon.

Hi All! :wave2:
I've been so busy at work.. I'm having trouble keeping up with all of you. I finally caught up with all of the posts.

1. We are not dressing up for pirate night... DH wanted to buy a costume that cost $150, I vetoed... I offered to buy something less expensive, but he said "all or none". My 9 year old said that we would embarrass her if we dressed up. Did I fail to mention that she was 9 going on 17 :scared:

4. Finally got our magnets bought. We had no choice but to buy the Steelers magnets. We just couldn't find anything else around. I'm WAY behind the rest of you. Haven't got 1 thing packed yet... but hay... I got a whole 10 days before we leave... I work better under pressure.

Party City near us has great pirate costumes! They have a deluxe adult male costume pirate: for only $40. DW vetoed that due to cost  I was all set to dress for pirate night (and even have the inflatable parrot) but nobody in the party is really interested, pooheads! I think we're just going to dress tropical.

The Steelers?!?!? harumph!!! :headache: Well I guess I can't say anything since the Eagles blew it tonight

We haven't started packing yet either. But then again, I'm kind of a luggage/bag freak and have been lamenting that DS's luggage isn't a fully matched set :snooty: So I've been chomping at the bit :hyper: to buy him a good matched set either online or via QVC (we get a discount). So what if he doesn't even have his first tooth? I intend to use his baggage allotment to the fullest :teeth:

Thanks! Though I'm not quite there yet... :goodvibes

A mild day in Boston, with 2 days of rain in the forecast....I can't wait for Turkey day and then Orlando...

It's been running in the 69-72 degrees for the past month or so :sunny: with nary a drop of rain in about as long. But now they are saying the rest of the week will bring highs of 52-60?!?!!? :cold:

One of our party wanetd to know if she's going to get more stamps in her passport on this trip...I didn't know so I thought I'd ask y'all.

I've read several times that we won't really need our passports at the ports of call (just photo ID and KTTW) but if you do take it, is there an immigration/customs weenie available that will stamp her passport for her? She's all about the stamps :p

Speaking of the KTTW card...if it's so universal and soooo important, why don't they put your picture on it? I mean since I don't really need my passport for going to St. Thomas, why don't they print my picture on it (like Costco) so I don't need the photo ID? Or better, print my photo and "OVER 21" so I don't have to have my DL when I get carded at the bar?

Must be nice to have the problem of being carded when you go to a bar :earboy2:

From the past cruises we have been on, they have not stamped our passport.

I do not know if there is a place to get it stamped at.

Called Disney yesterday... Still no Harry Potter movie on board  Does anyone know if Disney ever changes their movie schedule this late in the game? The movie has not been released yet... so I'm hoping that they are holding out.

.

Did they tell you what movies were playing? :confused3

Ok, just a quick post, then I have to get back to work. What will I do with my time after the cruise, for 16 months I have been checking the Meet thread on a daily basis?

Not a bad idea about having the picture on the KTTW card, I think I might write that on the comment card. It would also make it easier for me, as I ALWAYS get carded at bars, buying a lottery ticket, used to get carded when I rented a hotel room but luckily that has subsided!

I have started packing, mostly because we are not going to need shorts in Buffalo, so we won't miss anything that is being packed!

I still need to buy the magnets, but we are doing some last minute shopping this Sunday, so it is on my list of things to do! Don't tell SMS1 but I made door signs for all 11 cabins. Hopefully, if he reads the post he will keep it a secret ;) !

We are flying on Airtran and I have begun the ritual of checking weather.com for the next ten days to see what the weather will be like when we leave Buffalo and arrive in Orlando. Yes, I am a tad obsessive :goodvibes . Right now, it looks like even the low in Florida is higher than our high temp. for the day :cheer2:

Ok, back to work, I will check back at.....lunchtime. That's as long as I can go without getting a DIS fix.

We're flying AirTran, too. I didn't realize checking weather.com was obsessive. I've been doing that for weeks for Orlando and St. Thomas .. .LOL. I'd say you're just right . . .:cool1:

So today's highs in St. Thomas are . . .86 degrees F

OK, I've switched my daily weather check to a daily Delta check. They have a bankruptcy court date tomorrow, and will request the Court void thier union contract with the pilots. If granted, it could spell doom for the airlines and all traveling on Delta. I've looked into Jet Blue and found same dates and times as a back up plan. I will not let this put a damper on my family vacation plans.

You check the weather? Manually? Wow...I just assumed everyone has weather forecasts automagically sent to them :p I guess that's the cross I must bear of being a geek with access :rotfl:

LOL . . . I have them setup on my YAHOO homepage . . .LOL. and Weather Gold . . . However, I do relate to the cross bearing the we Geeks must do :)

Congrads on single digits . . .we're down to 10 days. . . and getting a little anxious . . .

I answered your question on the Cruise Critic page, but it had been a couple of days, so I thought you might see the answer here quicker.

I guess the Publix on 524 is probably the easiest to get in and out of quickly. You come off the 528 ramp heading south and you have to get in the straight lane quickly. There is a red light there. (If you can't get in the straight lane, turn right and you'll see Publix on your left.) When you leave Publix, go back North through the red light in that straight lane again, and get into your right hand lane quickly, and get back onto 528.

Hope this helps.

Lisarae,

That's good info about the Publix. I'll need that to pick on Diet Coke and some other items for the cruise. My DW is a DC addict so I need to make the necessary arrangements. I was planning on bringing on several bottles of wine and a case of Beer. I can't wait to be sitting on the Verandah sipping a corona.... :smooth:

We are almost to the single digits as well.

Louie, unless your DW needs a special kind of DC, they have the Soda Machines on Deck 9 with DC that is free.
