November 2012 Trip planners #4~almost Disney time! Everyone welcome!

Mine are starting Sept 4th. In fact I just picked up their packettes today so we know what teacher they have. and Im kind of having a melt down. DD4 will be 5 Oct 20th so we decided to send her to young fives instead of kindergarden. Well all the other kids that she has became best friends with are going to kindergarden without her. She's not really younger then them. they are all with in a few months of each other. Ive been crying all day about taking her away from her friends. We decided not to send her because she would be 4 for the first 7 weeks of school and we thought that was too young for kindergarden. I know this is right. Im just so sad.

our DD will be in the same boat in a couple years. On a good note she will make new friends, and still have the old friends also its the right thing if you know she i'snt ready.

Thank you I told her she was not going to be in the same class as her closest friends. She asked if it would be new kids in her class. I said some new but there are mostly kids you know just not kids you play with a lot. Her reply - I'm excited to meet new friends then my old friends and my new friends can all play together. So sweet, she will be fine. Now if Momma can just stop projecting her own childhood insecurities onto her she'll be even better

Had we lived in another state she would've gone, but because she turned 5 after September 1st she had to wait a whole year. The result was that she was the oldest kid in daycare and her friends are all a grade ahead of her. I was rather perturbed about the situation and that the school system wouldn't budge on it so to make up for it we took her to Disney to celebrate her fifth birthday. Monday she starts first grade.

I'm getting excited about our trip. My wife told me last night to shut up about it because I'm driving her nuts. She's the only one I can talk to though since it's going to be a surprise trip for our girls.

Here's the rundown. Call me crazy if you'd like.

My DD1 will be 7 at the time of the trip and went to WDW for her 5th birthday. My DD2 will be 4 just before this trip and will be celebrating her birthday the week we are there. We've got the standard LM room at AoA, MYW base tickets for 6 days and DDP. Mostly we'll be having breakfast in our room (cereal) or on the go (breakfast bars, drinks, etc). Mostly will do QS for lunch and then TS for dinners, except for the last day.

I think we're going to drive our car to the parks rather than take the buses, as I expect those to be a bit of a zoo, plus since we're staying in the LM rooms the buses are a bit of a hike from the rooms. We stayed at Pop last time in the 50's rooms and that was a bit of a beating at the end of the day.

We're debating on telling the girls either the week before at DD2's birthday party or just getting in the car and going and letting them figure it out when they get there. We'll be picking up DD1 from school at the end of the day and then leaving straight from there, which should be fun. Which would you do?

I have a friend in the same situation their daughters birthday is 9 days beyond the cut off. But I would rather my daughter be older then younger. Im sad that she wont be with her friends but I think its not as big of a deal to her as it is to me. And Im trying really hard not to let her see me be upset. Their dad took them out today so I could be alone with my "crazy" lol I feel much better now

I was 4 when I started school...until November 6th! I was emotionally immature and I struggled the first few years. I feel if I had been held back until I was 5, I would have done better academically the fist several years. I did a lot of day-dreaming. But once I got a bit older, I really caught on and did really well. Of course this was the dark ages before they tested for readiness.

I'm glad you're feeling a lot better about your decision. Sounds like your little princess has a great attitude. (good job, Mom!) Oh the things we learn from our children, right?

My Rachel starts school on Monday also!! I for one, think it will be great for them to get back and get started and have their minds focused on more important things. I still have so much to do with this trip and getting our airfare, paying off trip, etc. plus I haven't even booked our Universal part yet- but I am not too worried about that - checked today and plenty of rooms left where we want to stay. I can really book anytime.

Now off to relax, I might just take a nice bubble bath!! AAAHHHH!!!

You are right. It's hard to be apart from her friends, but she'll make new friends. I was 4 when I started kindergarten and I was miserable every day until I graduated and then went to college younger than everyone else. Of course, this was just my experience and everyone is different. Academically I never had a problem, it was all social and emotional. My daughter has a Nov birthday and I'm just so happy that there is a cutoff in place that wasn't there for me. And I get annoyed everytime her daddy tries to say we can put in for an exception.

Yes, KB, that's what I did; I jumped as soon as it was 180 days out and got everything we wanted including the elusive Le Cellier, Cape May Cafe CP, and CM. I'm very happy. I saved one for BOG today and didn't get thru until there weren't any left, but at least I tried. Maybe we'll get a cancellation or get lunch there or eat at Gaston's Tavern (as long as there's no spitting. LOL)! Your little sweetie will love your BBB surprise! Who do you think she will choose to be made up as? You're going to have as much fun with that as she is!

I think she will want Rapunzel, Merida or Tiana. But with her she can change her mind. I am thinking about getting the dress beforehand because we will probably need 10/12 although a 7/8 may still fit. It just depends on how much she grows and she has grown over the summer. I don't know what kind of sizes the BBB will carry.

Oh, they would come looking for you!!! Fortunately, you're safe here. We've got your back if anyone tries anything!

DD16 and DD5 both start on Monday as they are in traditional school. DD11 is in year round and went back July 16th. DD5 would have also been YR however she got accepted into a Performing Arts Elem School and we really think that will be a better fit for her. Although she's 5 and according to her doctor not behind at all I think waiting until Aug. did her well as she has really grown some over the summer. Her bday is in May but she wasn't due until Sept. Because of this she didn't come home til almost 6 months and didn't step foot in a daycare until 1.5 yrs old. She gets along fine with other kids and has been in daycare ever since but I am worried about her because she doesn't like loud noise including clapping or singing songs. Here you have to be tested for PreK and really be behind to be accepted and that didn't work for her. She's very bright just sensitive I suppose. So needless to say I'm a NERVOUS WRECK! To sum up my year this year I have 1 going to kindy, 1 that started MS and I swear have her friend visit soon and 1 that is now driving and preparing for SATs and college tours.

Thank goodness for Disney Trips!!!! I got 90 days to go!!!

I feel like I didnt fit in all through school and had a hard time making and keeping friends. I know that my emotions around this are my emotions. So that doesnt mean that because she wont be in class with these girls that she will never have any other friends.

It is so hard to separate that though, isn't it? I am so anxioux over her starting pre-school this week that I just have to remind myself to stay calm because I don't want her to pick up on it. You are doing all the right things and she will be fine and actually better for holding her back now.

Hello! First time posting here, we are headed down thanksgiving week for the first time from the 21st to the 27th... 91 days!!!! We are staying with family and will only have 2 days at MK. We are celebrating my daughters 3rd birthday and I feel I am trying to squeeze too much in one day, we have a 9:30 BBB at DD, then a 11:45 lunch at CP, and we were lucky enough to get in at BOG at 4:15 ... Too much? Enough time? I would have tried to split up the meals and do one on the 23rd and one on the 25th, but since we are spending a small fortune on her at BBB I would like to have her dressed up for the meals. We will have on our vehicle so we won't have to rely on Disney transportation in between DD and MK, which is nice but I'm still nervous we won't have enough time from BBB to our lunch reservation. Also going to MVMCP for the first time on 11/25

Any advice for a clueless planner? I will be traveling with my husband, 3yr old, 1 yr old, father and stepmom.

Yeah, it bugged me a lot more than it bugged her. I was the youngest growing up, with a late October birthday in a state where the cutoff was December 1st. It worked out ok for me, but not for many. I have a lot of friends who purposely hold their kids back that first year even if they are eligible. She met all new friends and did well in kindergarten and will be a first grader on Monday!
