November 12, 2005....7 Night Eastern...Who Else?

DIS NURSE said:
Oh.....yes, now that I have read this am's newspaper I see the study they did. I can't imagine that I have somehow been exposed to flame retardant here in Bend....very few forset fires even around Central Oregon on the past 10 years.

But, you never know.....maybe that's why my kids run around like circus monkeys late at night and still jump off the furniture! :rotfl: Yup, must have been that darned breast milk they ingested! :rotfl:

LMAO.... I don't think breast milk does that!

i just wonder how so many of us baby boomers managed to survive-our mom's drank coffee (and some alcohol) and smoked while carrying us, we had no "child proof" gizmos, the only car safety restraint i recall is my mother's arm thrown in front of me.... :rotfl: i guess we're just born survivors!

if the moms get this problem from flame retardant on clothing i would imagine that we have scads of toxic kids around the nation (just read the label on a pair of kid's jammies) :earseek:

well, i hit walmart tonight and am starting to grab a few small travel items each time i go shopping (new toothbrushes, toothpaste, disposable razors). i figure if i get a few items each time it won't seem like i've spent so much :)
i also started putting together a small binder with all of my hard copies of reservations, etc. into it. the dcl site has one printable page that shows your itinerary and includes each of the reservations you made on the appropriate days-quite nice. i plan on doing a map quest for the places we will drive and will print them and include them as well.

is it me, or once we hit september first will vacation see a whole lot sooner?

I found some of stories on flame retardant and breast milk msnbc.com/news/970665. It is something that will cause you to go :confused3 The chemical is PBDE and is found in almost every thing that we have at home and work. CA will ban PBDE in 2008! Only God nows what we have been affected by and what harm it my have done us. Just do a search on flame retardant and breast milk

scary! :guilty: ...and we wonder why we have such huge increases in cases of childhood leukemias, young womens' breast cancer, and skin cancer! :confused3

Barkley....just chatted with you on my booze question on the main thread...thanks for your hints. Few other questions, though...Shopping is not high on our list, especially at St. Thomas where I keep reading has the best alcohol prices/availability. With that said, we've promised we would bring some back for friends and family, can my DH and I walk very easily to some nearby shops to purchase these? Is it possible that after or before our excursion that one or both of us hop off and run over to some place pretty quickly...while leaving the kids in the clubs? Shopping would totally bore them and wear them out! And we only want one thing.....alcohol :teeth:

Thanks. :flower:

STBonthebeach - Are you in the storm's path - if so prayers for you and your family.

I have been out of town, just returning. If you are - we will not hear from you for a while, so post-post-post when it passes.

Heartfelt prayers and good luck for all in the path. We were so fortunate in our part of Florida.

this post and claiming my spot as posting # 800 :goodvibes :smooth: :earboy2: :badpc:

I leave town and you all gav and 4formickey grabs post 800.....

We went to Ameila Islannd for a confernce - on the ride back we drove down AIA and yes, the Wonder was in Port.

I drove past the Raddison and the family resturant is still next door. I wrote the name down - it is in the car - Zachery's or something like that. There is also a pizza place in walking distance. I'll retreive the names for you - too tired to do so now, must unpack....

WOW! :scared1: That is one honkin' hurricane! OMG! :scared1: I hope all is well for fellow DIS'ers and I am also so glad that sucker got no where near our Caribbean islands! :cheer2:

This one will be devastating for sure......so sad.....so powerful....so obvious that we are at Mother Nature's disposal. :rolleyes1

C&D&F,

Thank you soooo much for the concern. Here we are again, total strangers finding support from each other. I hope Jessica is having a stupendous time in WDW!!! :earboy2:

Unfortunately, we are in the path. We truly thought we would not have any problems for a change, so all I did yesterday in preparation was wait in a long line to get gas. (This was after driving to several different stations to find gas.) But, we awoke early this a.m. to the change in forecast. I’ve spent the last 16hours boarding up our home, along with the 62 other homes and condos we manage, packing precious, irreplaceable mementoes, and hitting the road. Since we are only expecting 100 miles hr. winds in or area, we evacuated to my parent’s home which is about 45 miles north. We were able to take the back roads and avoid the 5MPH traffic on the interstates. My husband and I, who both grew up going to the beach on a regular basis, have NEVER seen waves as large as the ones that were harking at our back door when we left our home. It was humbling, awe inspiring and nauseatingly fearful all at the same time.

We’re expecting our first floor to give way – which will be okay since the walls are made to “breakaway” to provide easy flow for the water under the house all the while maintaining the actual structure. The first floor is mostly garage items, which were moved upstairs. The first living floor is 16 ft off the ground. We’re praying the storm surge does not hit the 20 ft mark which the locals are predicting. Our road had already washed over by the time we were able to leave. We’re just praying it doesn’t wash out completely.

The news just reported a tornado on the island so I hoped online (before we loose electricity and the laptop battery dies) to check out the latest info on our local website.

I have never visited Amelia Island, but I have heard from several people who know it well. And, I imagine C&D&F, you could have suffered through conferences at worst locations! Thank you again for your thoughts! Being a fellow Floridian, you know all too well, how emotionally draining this whole process is, but in the end how awesome it is to live here. And, that’s the attitude I’m going to keep!! :sunny: My heart goes out to those in New Orleans who appear to be in the Cat 5's direct wake. Lord, please watch out over them..........

Our thoughts are with you! Thanks for the update and please get back to us when you safely can! ;)

STB on the Beach, know that we are all waiting on pins and needles to hear that you are all safe and your home didn't have too much damage.

I just heard the storm has hit Grand Isle - more prayers are needed as this must be an unimaginable terrifying moment for them. I'm postive STB and family will be fine where they are, and wish them the best upon returning home...

A more complete update for our weekend trip.

We had a relaxing weekend at Amelia Island. I was wondering how the 75 day reservation countdown went for those of you who are "first timers" – post -post please and let us know.

We were so fortunate that the storm spared most of our County. My DH stayed, while I left, that was not an easy decision. But I was a planned speaker and I had hoped the storm would not intensify. Our home is fine....the rains and wind did not come.

We drove down A1A to the port. It was so wonderful to see the Disney Wonder at the pier. I had thought she left on Sunday and there she was...I wanted to jump on board, but alas, no passport, no tickets, no time off work, no money.....

Then we drove by the Radisson. There is a family restaurant called Zachary's just next door to the north and a pizza place (Kelsey's Pizza) to the south, both easy walking. The McDonald's is across the street.

I think we will eat at Ron Jon's and have a look around the resort after our min-meet by the pool. Here is a hint. If you stop by Ron Jon's you can pick up a ticket for 10% off lunch and dinner. Every little bit helps, I say.

We drove down A1A past the other hotel chains and all the tourist shops. Took a look at the ocean. Did you know the ocean is not blue at Amelia? How strange. It is brown. It should not be brown (in my mind's eye) but at that part of the state, that is normal...hum.....

Everyone stay safe.

What a great teaser visit Chip&Dale&Fun! I'd have a hard time not getting on & sailing away!!

We were able to get in right at midnight. We got all the ressies we needed & registered the kids for the clubs, so I think that we are set & ready to move on to obsessing about packing......

More wishes to stay safe from Arizona!

I made my ressies this morning. I got everything I wanted, except for the well-being massagefor dh. I did schedule him for a hot stone massage, so if we don't get the well being he still has something to look forward to.

It's starting to feel real now!

I set the alarm clock for 12:00 midnight and tried not to wake anyone up! My DS came out of bed and came over to me at the computer with his little boy lisp and asked (sternly).."Mommy! What are you doing on the Internet? It is LATE at night!" :rotfl: really cute! I lauged! :rotfl: Believe me, I am dragging today at work because of it!
I got what we wanted....sorta....definitely sealed the deal on the mid-day sail on St Maarten's Golden Eagle Catamaran but that darned MOUSE ::MickeyMo knows too much about the demographics of our family....He would not let me book DS onto the Captain Nautica's speed boat snorkel excursion! I thought I would try anyway...but no luck! pirate:

I guess my only other chioce to now call Capt. N and ask if they will let us book with them directly?

I got the kids all regisitered and then went back off to bed with two kids and a cat in my bed! :earboy2:

And, yes...it really is seeming like it is becoming more REAL! :cheer2:

Thanks for the posts on the Ressies...now if we could just hear from STB on the Beach that all is well, then, we can really get excited....

Disnurse - yes, the mouse knows all....

Hello,

I was online at exactly 3:01 am this morning and got everything we wanted. YEAH!!!! I booked Palo's first, there was only 14 or 15 open ressies. After booking our Rasul and our excursions I went back to Palo's to see what was available for the brunch and it was completely booked. WOW!!!! In about five minutes Palo's was completely booked. Now I know that there are ressies available for cruisers once your onboard, but I'm glad that I got ours early, it's one less thing to worry about.

Frank

Hello All,

Dom and I got our wristbands on Saturday :cool1: . Thank you, Teena. Hope you all get your soon too.

Hey nick262....is that little cutie of yours coming along with you guys on the cruise? She is adorable! :goodvibes

Dis Nurse,

Thank you. Can you tell she likes ice cream? :mickeybar No our punkin will be staying home with grandma for this trip. We are celebrating our 5th wedding anniversary :love2: (it was this past march) and we will be with my brother and wife :lovestruc :bride: (they are getting married on Sept. 18) and this will be sort of their honeymoon. Besides, she only turned two just this past Saturday and is working on the potty training thing :cheer2: . We plan on taking her in 2008 on a 7 day cruise. She will be five and will enjoy and remember it alot more. But Dom and I plan on checking everything out for the kids on this cruise so that we can really help her plan the 2008 cruise so that she will get the most out of her first "Magic"al cruise.
