November 12, 2005....7 Night Eastern...Who Else?

My first concert was Johnny Cash. My first concert without my mom was Boston. I've seen Sammy Hagar (PRE-VH) several times - he was one of my favorites.

Don't make me dig out the ticket stubs... :rotfl2:

o.k., well then i guess my first concert (with mom) was "Sesame Street". the year the show started the san francisco pbs station managed to get the actual cast (gordon, susan, bob and mr. hooper) along with big bird to appear at a free concert in golden gate park. 10, 000 kids cut school that day (with their parent's help) to see a show, hear what were very new songs then, and receive photos from the cast that were actualy autographed in front of us :)

Guys, I hate to say it, but he's not kidding. He still has 25 year old stubs & a few concert Tshirts.

My first concert was Journey & Bryan Adams in 1982 (I think).

Ok, I can see Iggy playing with SD, but how did Big Country get on the bill??? That's almost as bad as when I saw some country band open for Rush. Talk about an ugly crowd. I thought they were going to tear up the stage before Rush could even start.

CRACK ME UP, YOU GUYS!.....all I did was bring up me being a stupid teenager in the early 80's watching horror flicks and look what crawled out from the woodwork! :rotfl: I cracked up at all of your reminiscing....I was there with 'ya.....and have hearing loss because of it. As a flight nurse (previously) I was required to get my hearing tested from an audiologist every year....and I repeatedly would flunk a certain decible and range in the test. When I explained my history, he said it was for sure concert damage. I remember going home from an AC/DC concert with my ears almost BLEEDING ringing from the night prior! Same thing with The Stones and The Scorpions. Air Life of Oregon was really trying to track whether or not you were incuring hearing loss from the exposure to the helicopter rotor blades.....not a Van Halen concert. :rotfl2:

Too funny, barkley, "Day on the Green".....I went to several of those.....sounds like I was at the exact one you were...Boston, Sammy, and Eddie! :rotfl:

What a drunken and marijuana fest those were! I can't believe my parents actaully let me ride BART to those concerts and expect to see me back in the morning! pirate:
No way will our kids be going that this day and age!

Also, Tommy Tutone cracked me up! :rotfl: You almost made me wake up the kids and it would have been you fault, awoltoday! pirate:

....8,6,7,5,3,0,9.....do you remember actaully trying to call that number on a real phone (rotary, non the less!) just to see what would happen? :rotfl:

Don't question princesshaley'smoms' age! She is of child bearing years for goodness sakes! What do you expect? All the rest of should be jelous! the rest of us have just slowly but silently tranitioned over to "the other side" of adulthood....where we are priming ourselves to become slowly pickeled over the next 20 years. :rolleyes1

P.S. Does anyone remember Romper Room? That was filmed out of a studio in Oakland, CA and I was on that show numerous times as a 4-5 year old! I still have the tapes of it....yup, 8-track! :rotfl:

DisNurse - Now Romper Room I remember! I wish I had it on tape! That was my favorite when I was little along with The Magic Garden (which I do have a VHS of!).
And just for reference, my first concert was the New Kids on the Block! :rotfl2:

Friends of my parents just booked onto our cruise! They have had some personal things that have kept them close to home, but not anymore! They are going to be on deck 7. We are going to try to get our dining reservations linked once we get on board. There are 5 of us, and only 2 of them, and since there are no 5 tops on the ship I figure we would get a table for 6 and they could add a chair to the end? Anyone ever had this done? We have main and they could only get late, and we don't want to move to late, so we are trying to figure out how to get them to main!!

My first concert was Tiffany....anyone remember her?

Nope. Not kidding. Quite a stack or two. Including the "program" from the Boston concert.

are you kidding- "romper, bomper, stomper, boo
tell me, tell me, tell me-do!
magic mirror tell me today-did all my friends have fun
at play?"

"I see disnurse and chocmarg and barkley....." :teeth:

don't you think awoltoday would have been a "dont-bee"?

so disnurse-did you also watch "creature features" with bob wilkins or the "charlie and humphrey show" on KTVU CHANNEL 2? i get such a kick out of watching "Mrs. Doubtfire"-the t.v. station they used is the old KTVU in oakland (and the monkey puppet is "buster" from an old local KRON show "buster and me") it's a fox affiliate now, but it's amazing-they still have newscasters from when i was a kid, they must be pretty good to work for.
the kids look at me like i'm nuts (well so does dh) because i can sing all the theme songs to old cartoons-hey we only got 3 channels for many years and they reran the same cartoons over and over....now these are the "retro" cartoons of cartoon network
do you remember KFRC with Dr. Don Rose every morning? my mom used to turn it on to try to get me to wake up faster in the morning.

p.s. i have not been silent in my "transition to the other side"-i have gone kicking and screaming!

OMG, barkley! You have given me a REAL blast from the past with Dr. Don Rose! :rotfl2: KFRC!......wow! I was soooooo into it! I can still see the clock radio next to my bed that I worshipped for hours on end! I can literally still see that clock radio 'cause believe it or not I still have it by my bedside! It won't die! :cool1:

I did all my true growing up in Walnut Creek and Piedmont so ya'.......I was right there with ya! ;)
I can't believe you can recite those Romper Room sayings word for word like that! Certain people have certain areas of their brains that soak that stuff up for permanent record...and you are one of them for sure! :goodvibes
I, too, recall being blown away at the exerpts from Mrs. Doubtfire. I tried to explain it to DH but there was no way he could appreciate its nostalgia.

alwoltoday, I still have that exact t-shirt from the Scorpions tour in 1982! I wear it as a pajama top sometimes! :rotfl2:

Great to hear more DIS'ers could be joining us....but are you sure they would want to be associated with such an odd group at this point? :confused3

Ok Barkley and Disnurse, you two are cracking me up. I definitely remember Romper Room. I think it was Miss Sally with the Dorthy Hamill haircut. :rotfl:
I also remember Captin Kangaroo and Mr. Rogers too, you know the really old shows when his hair had no gray. Then there was Scooby Doo and H & R Puffin stuff. :goodvibes Have I dated myself yet? :hourglass

scooby doo will never die! what gets me is all the marketing with the old cartoon shows, they are not trying to appeal to kids they are hitting all our adult "nostalgia buttons". "h.r. puffinstuff, where to go when things get rough-if you can't do a little then you can't do enuf". my kids got hooked on some oldies at a little video store in town-"rainbow bright", 'strawberry shortcake", "care bears"-this of course was before care bears became popular again a few years ago. when the store closed down i hit thier going out of bsns. sale and grabbed the ones they kept renting over and over. now that they're older they keep asking why i don't get rid of them :rotfl: i tell them "no-way" we'll hang on to them so you can have the joy of your children watching them over and over and over :rotfl2: if i were realy mean i would have held on to the barny video's (that dinosaur and his prozak friends drove me nuts!".

when the kids realy see my age is when i start in on "when i was a kid there were only 3 channels and they only showed cartoons for 2 hours each day after school and on saturday mornings". sunday was such a bummer, the closest you could get was "davey and goliath" (i love that soda commercial with them in it of a few years ago :Pinkbounc ).

What a blast from the past......My parents did not believe in TV (yes, they were around when I was a child....) so, I had to be content to go to my Grandmother's on Saturday to watch re-runs of cartoons. Do not remember Romper Room or Kaptn Kangaroo or Mr. Rogers, but I do remember Mighty Mouse and Rocky&Bullwinkle.....We finally had a TV when my Daddy broke his leg.....just in time to see the Moon Landing....It was my grandmother's old black and white.....I expect my love of reading came from an early age.....

AOLTODAY - you made your point with the T-shirts.....I was never one to go to concerts, DH did. I went to one......with a bunch of girlfriends and one with DH.....Did not like the noise, the crowds, the smoke (anytype). What the hect was the group I saw....it was one of the "bugs" in the early 70's.....(no not Beatles), oh well.....did not need that brain cell anyway.

Favorite Auntie - glad to have more friends join us....catch them up on everything we have planned and invite them to post.

My DD will never watch barney. Even made sure that her day care provider dislikes him just as much. HATE that dinosaur!

I said the same thing. Flipping channels one day we happened upon him and she fell in love. I tune him out, she learns a thing or two (knows the alphabet and counts to 10 thanks to the purple guy singing silly songs) and I get 30 minutes to take a shower and get dressed in peace! She is only allowed to watch PBS, Noggin and of course Disney Channels when she is allowed to watch tv. There are now things alot worse than Barney out there! :earseek:

yup-there are things worse than barney. there's telletubbies (which they sell at epcot!)!

hey favorite auntie-sorry if i offended any other poster's on your thread, did'nt mean to-guess i better stick to topics of a non sensitive nature (i would post the flames i've gotten but theres no icon :) ).
