November 1, 2008 "Election Day Castaways!"

Ok my first Cruise, so I have to ask....what are the clothespins, suction cups and dry erase board for on the cruise????

Clothes pins & suction cups are to hang things- wet bathing suits, towels, our lanyards with our KTTW cards so we don't lose them (not that THAT would happen !;) ) and the dry erase board is so we all know where we are- if my DS11 signs out, he can go back to the room and see on the board where we are.:) Or write where he is headed.

Janine, your dogs are so sweet!!! It is expensive to board them, though- good luck with all of that. How long have you been doing rescues? A good friend of mine does them, and started when she lived in Tuckerton and then Manahawkin, but they ended up moving closer to Philly because of her husband's work. She's still doing the rescues there, though. We used to volunteer with MMSC in Brigantine a million years ago before we had kids, too.

I started doing rescues this past spring and that is how I got Goldie, the Ylw Lab. She was part of a seizure we did in Lancaster at a puppy mill. I ended up with 3 Lab pups. I kept the 2 girls, Shadow/Goldie. My GF took Kenai the Black Male, but I ended up giving Shadow to a client since the girls fought too much. She's a sweetie, but a tad "blonde"...;) If your friend did them in area, I'm sure Sherri's knows them if I don't. As for Brigantine...uhmmmm I think that is why your face is familiar...I used to do some volunteer work with the seal rescues on LBI. I would love to do more, but DH states very strongly " I am not Dr. Doolittle and I should stop trying to talk to all the animals", hence the one who had lion cubs as pets as a child !!! ( He grew up on a wild animal farm here in NJ). Either way, DS14 has severe asthma/allergies...yeah,yeah, go ahead and tell me I shouldn't have all the animals in house, but he knows what to do. His door is closed, and he doesn't breathe them in around his face. We found out about the allergy this past year and it would KILL him more than allergies to get rid of them all. Besides, he wants to be a Zoologist, he'll get used to the sneezing. :rotfl:

Hey 11/1 cruisers... We're excited but in no way are we going to start preparing until 10/29 or so... We don't even have our cruise documents just yet... Lots of time to go and a lot of work work to do... The only prep we have underway is our Absentee Ballots are in here in NY, even though it really will not matter in our case... But no matter who you support, don't forget to do it... Whether you are in a blue state or red state apply for and deliver you rabsentee ballot, even if your state is already likely decided just add another vote to your candidate's column, that is what I did...

OK, got a few things crossed off my list. Dropped DHs suit and my dress off at the cleaners, got black socks for DS, printed out a few of the TShirt transfers (but haven't put them on the TShirts yet, lol.) Here's what I have left to do:

1. VOTE (we have one stop early voting... so DH and I are going before we leave)
2. Pack (obviously!)
3. Get oil change for the car (we're driving down)
4. Get all my camera stuff together (batteries, lenses, etc)
5. Finish altering DDs formal night dress (it was a tad too big, lol)
6. Print out magnets / laminate
7. Iron on the tshirt transfers

I think that's it for the miscellaneous stuff!

Today is an awesome day!
2 weeks from today we will be on vacation,
and I just put down a deposit for the West bound repositioning cruise in 2010!!! 14 nights....

The packing going on just adds to the pre-trip excitement. Working on complying with all the baggage rules and regs. Looks like I've always gyped myself on my carry on (I always took a small bag) now I am going to have to max out my carry-on limits.

By the way, DD 14 asked that I put out there a hello :wave2: to all the fellow DKids crusing. She is hoping to meet someone to hang around with during the trip. (Last cruise she stayed with us most of the time.) She is in that "tween" age, kind of young for the Stack/Aloft; but would be the oldest kid in Ocean Quest. Soooo, hopefully she'll meet someone to spend some time with on the trip.

If any DKid of our board wants to drop her a hello, I'll have her respond.

Hoping to "break the ice" for our DD. If we get some of the kids posting too, who knows how high the post count could get before the trip.:surfweb:

sounds like tummy trouble.

Better now than later!

I was SO close to saying "better now than on the cruise" :scared1:

I just gotta keep it a secret for 17 more days.:rolleyes1

DS14 is coming along with us and would love to meet someone to hang with. Fact he's quite cute helps too...o.k. shameless plug from mom.
His email address is Blackcat9894@aol.com He's got a facebook page too if anyone wants to grab him that way, let me know and I'll give the full name and link out.

We slipped to page 2 ... that just won't do!!

I just have been so busy at work today, I didn't have time to write...

Well I finished my magnets for my door and for my friends door (I'm going to surprise them by decorating their door) and I have to say, with all the assistance of the wonderful disigners on this board, they look fantastic. Now I just need a white paint pen to label what cabin they belong to on the back.

Have a good rest of the day.

Wow Great ideas! Where can we hang up bathing suits and stuff? Is there a line in the bathroom like they have at the resorts over the tub? Unfortunately we don't have a veranda on this trip, so we can't place anything outside.

I don't think you're really supposed to put stuff out on the verandah, anyway! I think there is a line in the tub, I hope that's what I read- alot of tips for bringing clothespins to use in there, I couldn't find the ones with a hook at the top (like a hanger) and that's what i was looking for. If you want any of the clothespins I got today, I bought a bunch- they came in a big pack- I'd be happy to share!:)

I tried to start packing this weekend but dd has taken all of her shoes out of the bag (yep that is the only thing I packed :rotfl2: ). Unfortunately she is a shoe girl just like mom...much to DH's chagrin...;) Packed my fe gifts today, now DH just needs to help me finish the hanger part of my fe...still have to shop for sd cards for the camera, some unmentionables (DON'T ask what the are b/c they are unmentionables :) ), hopefully one of the two new swimsuits I ordered arrive soon otherwise I am in trouble!! :bitelip:

well, off to make some dinner...a bocca burger for me and mac and cheese for dd, looks like DH is on his own. :lmao:

Worked on packing the boxes that I am sending to the rooms, since
they allow you to ship one box to each stateroom, we have three staterooms,
so that means three boxes. Packed the pirate stuff, fe stuff, and just
as lot of odd and ends that will not be coming home on the airplane. I
made large sand buckets for the grandchildren and these were being shipped
directly to the cabins.
Still working on the suitcases, as I have two finished and two to go. Need the extra week in Florida clothes, as we are going down on Oct. 25.

Well, that must have been an interesting childhood- growing up with lions!!!! Glad your son is able to deal with the allergies and the pets- I know getting rid of our dog would KILL my kids, that's for sure. I would bet at some point you & my friend have met- her name is Jane, her DH is Frank, they have two daughters, Chrissy and Mary Kate (who they call Mary Monster:rotfl: ) or at least they did when she was a toddler!! Their dog was Irish, she was a border collie mix- great dog. Any of this ringin' a bell? As for recognizing me, we'll have to figure out exactly why that is when we're sailing around the caribbean!!! Ever been to the Hud?:rotfl: Maybe it's from there! Or the Colony 4? I was the cashier for a couple of summers in the mid '80's. Natalie's Place in Surf City? I was a cook. MMSC was around '91-'93, with Bob & Sheila, right? Such a small world, I love it!:thumbsup2
