November 1, 2008 "Election Day Castaways!"

seen any of the POTC movies?:lmao:

Really, I haven't.

But I do love the Disney classics from the 60's & 70's: Herbie, Pollyanna, Parent Trap ~ original, Mary Poppins, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, The Nutty Professor.

:scared1: You MUST see the PoTC movies!! Actually, At World's End will be playing on the Magic when we're cruising. LOVE those films!! :thumbsup2

My DH and I were just out grocery shopping and I stopped by the travel size aisle. We picked up some of the single load Tide boxes for $0.89 a piece. Just in case we do laundry, I didn't want to pay the prices on the boat. Now I'll have to travel to Target to look at their travel size aisle. They have LOADS of stuff there! :thumbsup2

Don't forget travel size dish soap for room, to wash the mugs etc...shampoo just tastes really really bad...

Also, put all your liquids etc. in one of those giant Hefty bags and right into suitcase to avoid the every loving spillage !!

Isn't it a requirement of DCL that you have to have seen ALL of the PoTC movies before they allow you on board? I'm sure I must have heard that somewhere. You have alot of work to do Tigger.....Savvy?(you would understand this saying if you saw the movie!!)

I may start quizzing you tomorrow:teacher:

Anyone worried about the new Tropical Storm NANA out there in the Atlantic. Anyone know what a typical time frame is for a storm to work across the ocean?? It is kinda off in the middle of the Atlantic now. Anyone had the trip cancelled due to these kinds of storms?

:scared1:

A storm that is out there right now wouldn't effect us. I think it takes about a week to get to the Keys, if that's the way it's heading.

Hurricane season ends November 30th and with our cruise being so late in the season, hurricanes are more rare then.

I predict smooth sailing with lots of sunshine!:thumbsup2

OMG, you REALLY have to check out the POTC movies- they are soooooooooooooo fantastic!! When i was a kid, I adored all the Haley Mills pics- I had forgotten all about them-

CMbar- I think I read that once there was a hurricane during the cruise that extended the cruise a few days because they couldn't get back in to port- sounds ok to me!!!;)

I've seen them all and LOVE them. My younger brother who has a very successful business in South Fl has a good friend that went to high school with Johnny D. My brother used to go to lunch with him alot when he wasn doing "Jump Street" - oh my, am I dating myself----Johnny hasn't been back much since then...but when he is in town, he stops by..,...My brother said he's pretty down to earth, but finds it hard to be places without being bothered.

On the bringing zip locs...my DH found Ziploc Big Bags at Harmon....they're going to be great for packing and bringing things that might leak. Also for holding wet bathing suits and stuff at the end.

As for the hurricanes....since I go to FL every year at this time (1/2 my family lives there) - it's hit or miss with the storms. I got there during "jersey week" a few years ago and they had just gotten pounded. I saw trees out to the ground...sparse electricity...it was horrible. We flew into Ft. Lauderdale and drove to our time share in orlando and there was wreckage all the way up. I've been praying to the storm g-ds that we don't have that issue to worry about.

Not what I wanted to hear as to many pieces we can checek on w/ no additional cost :rolleyes1

Get this: it is 3 pieces of checked luggage.:scared1:

That means we will be doing laundry on the cruise. :confused3 Also dh & I will be carrying on a piece of luggage each. I have new Lands End travel backpacks for the kiddos. Our flight is less than 2 1/2 hours. Oh, but the wait at the airport is the :headache:

I am so glad I have a hand held neb machine now. That machine alone took up so much space in my carry on luggage.

I did tell dh that there will be so much space in our luggage coming home as we won't have the FE gifts we are giving away. :rolleyes1 "Yeah, right he tells me. What about ALL the gifts WE WILL be receiving?"

I have figured out that each of us needs: 4 pr of shoes. That's right, 4 pr per person. Each of us will have 1 pr of sneakers, 1 pr of sandals, 1 pr of surf walkers & 1 pair of dress shoes. I am seriously considering having the kiddos wear the aqua shoes as their sandals but I am not sure how well that will go over with them. The Lands End aqua shoes look like tennis shoes w/ vented sides. They are PERFECT for the airport check in.:woohoo:

I did decide to have clothes pressed once we arrive. That way I can roll all of the clothing in the luggage on the way down and not worry about wrinkles. Has anyone sent clothes to be pressed? And if so, when can I expect to have them back?

Have a great Columbus day!

I won't quiz you on the classics from the 60's & 70's and I don't get quizzed on POTC. pirate: :worship:

If it's in total how can it only be 3 pieces. Who are you flying and when did you book? I'm taking US Air. We booked back in January. Although their website says I will be charged for all my luggage, when I booked the tickets it was still 2 free bags per person. I've called them 2 times and they confirmed that I will not have to pay for any checked luggage as long as I have 2 bags per person.

Speaking of trivia... Name the town where will you find "I Dream Of Jeannie" Lane?

Just last night DW was talking about how many pairs of shoes we will have to pack. On our last cruise, how did we fill our over the door shoe holder? Yep, shoes. At the time I found it hard to believe DD6 needed 5 pairs of shoes/sandals/etc.

Airline baggage... Just like Mindlemouse, we purchased our tix before there was any talk of baggage fees. Simply put, I don't trust USAirways. We should be allowed two checked bags. This summer we did a test run to Disneyworld where we drastically reduced our packing. We did just fine with 1suitcase/person, and a carry on. Cruise packing will be a little trickier, but we should do ok.

Cocoa Beach Florida....:woohoo: Right down the road from Ron Jons !!! HA !

Also right down the road from the " Big Red Boat" <-some nostalgia for ya>

Ding, ding, ding! We have a winner! That's right, Cocoa Beach, Florida. That's where we'll be in... 18 days!

Great topics today.

I want to be member of the JD fan club too. I've been a fan since 21 Jump Street too. Fascinating the 6 degrees of separation. My DD thought he was sooo cute in the movies, I had to break it to her that he is MY age. He is a wonderful character actor and I hope that he enjoys continued success in his career.

WuvTigger - you've gotta find time to watch the movies. The original is in my opinion one of the finest movies ever made. PS what about JD in Willie Wonka - have you seen that yet?

As for shoes, the ones you wear on the plane don't count toward your shoe count. DH's shoes are soooo heavy, I think I should get to bring 2 pair to his 1 pair - just to be fair.

As for shoes, DH & DS14 have the rentals for tux so done. Flip Flops worn to airport and sneakers in bags. DS7 has sandals which I told him he could wear with his tux...LOL oh why not, they're kids !! Or his sneakers. I personally have Birkie's in 2 colors I'm wearing/bringing and a pair of dress shoes for formal night. I don't wear sneakers except for work and this is vacation so they stay home.
Ladies if you don't have Birk's, I swear by them, they will save your feet.
Remember I am packing for 3 weeks !! Where am I supposed to put stuff to bring home if I pack it all to go down...:lmao: :lmao: I have Miami and Nascar yet to shop for.

OMG !!! I just realized that the inlaws are coming up 2 weeks after we get back....I can pay $15 for an extra suitcase for them to take with all my stuff in it.....
<currently redoing the packing list> :cool1:

AAAARRRGGHHH! pirate:
We are done with work 2 weeks and 10 minutes from now and I have a feeling it is going to be a LONG 2 weeks!

Yesterday we started packing. Well, mostly we just put 4 shirts and a pair of shorts that DH won't need until the cruise into our new space saver travel bag to try it out. But, since we don't need to open it before the trip, it is practically packed.
We are packing the cruise only suitcase on Saturday and will pack the carry on and the WDW suitcase the following week on Sunday.
;)
