Nothing Rare Anymore

I don't get why it's so important to you for people to have to trade away everything that they want for just one item that they want. How do you replace something of a lesser value if you can no longer buy it and no one wants stuff that's came out less that a year ago?

No one even wants the green wreaths I have. If they do, then they want to give me stuff that no one else wants. What good is that?

As I said, I only have 1 or maybe 2 of stuff that I bought back in 05. it makes no sense to trade away several things I only have 1 each of just ot get 1 thing. No sense at all.

It's just like spending all your money for a big fancy house and not being able to furnish it. It's just stupid.

My main point is to release those items that haven't seen the light of day in almost 3 years on a very limited basis. Many of those original items have been lost due to people losing those accounts. There are far fewer of each of those items now than there were in June 05. But many, many more players. Put some back into the game so that it makes it not unobtainable except to those that have 14 infernos.

You know I do see what your saying, but your a collector ;) I am just giving you a traders point of view.

The traders dont get represented very well on forums because they dont play a social game. They dont even know this thread is here ;) They are a HUGE population of vmk however.

BTW I am not against these releases really either. I just would prefer to not see them dump it all in the pot so to speak LOL. It would make a pretty big part of the game obsolete.

So yes in your main point, I do for the most part agree with you. I think they are doing that. The HKDL disneyland pin was a pretty significant re-release.

For me the re - release of rarer items is welcomed. I am not the best game player, I am not the saver or really a trader. I like to build rooms and give away my stuff. Yup to me bringing extra pixie dust into another players life is what gives me the most pleasure on VMK. for me gifting a kid something awesome gives me the same high as fianlly getting my first fireworks magic pin.

Take inferno. I was one of the unlucky players that since day one never got inferno. And since I tended to gift my stuff never had anything worth to trade for it.

But now that it is movie rewards and the cost has gone down. I am able to have more than one inferno. Why does this make me happy because I am still able to put a smile on a kids face. Even going for @50,000 it is still beyond a lot of kids means. So that is where I can make a difference. I get so much joy gifting that makes my day or night. So do bring back the rarer items but also do not make then cheaper than originally sold for.

point taken, but alot of those items you are giving people make them smile because...

Yep, they are rare @_@. Its a delicate balance is all I am saying.

To be honest, I didn't read every post in this thread. I skimmed through most of them, and as far as I can tell, I see nothing new. I've pretty much read it all before. I've heard this argument since I started playing more than 2 years ago. A few times I've chimed in my opinion, but as far as I can tell, it doesn't really matter. People believe what they want to believe.

When Inferno was released through Disney Movie Rewards, I was flooded with messages asking for my thoughts. I answered only those who know me. And even then, they already knew how I felt about it. For the most part though, I've avoided answering this topic. I didn't care to get mixed up in the craziness I knew would follow. I think it's sort of calmed down, and there's a number of things I do want to comment on now.

I feel that players are a big part of the trading issues. I notice that a lot of the players who complain about "rare" being released are the same players who complain that VMK should release the "rare" so everybody has a chance to get them. But who determines what is "rare" to begin with? The players do. Once upon a time, there was such a thing as "rare". Beta items that were never released had limited quantities throughout the game. Things like Inferno, were "rare" because we knew how limited their release was.

But today, how is "rare" defined? If you haven't searched the forums and lurked in trade rooms, you might find the answer surprising. Little groups of players set the prices. They determine what is rare and what is not. How? A few ways. They start a rumor of an item being released soon. Or having been released in some way. Half the time people are smart enough to think before joining the bandwagon and the rumor dies. But the other half the time... Well, I'm sure most of you have seen the results. Another way is a group of players decide something should be rare. The green backwards cap for example. Dig deep enough and you'll find out the truth. See, I never thought the cap was rare because it took me 1 try and a couple buyables to get it when I first started. So it got me curious when suddenly players are going around practically asking for inferno for it. Turns out some players had a few on their hands they wanted to get rid of, and wanted to get more than their money's worth for them. Newer players believed it. Enough players believed it. So it became so. But how many people stopped to think... Once word got out that it was "rare", how many "trading green flip" threads popped up? Hmmm...

But you know what? That's okay. More power to those players. Why? Because they are working the market to their advantage. And that's how trading is. Trading is a game of chance. You take a chance in getting a good deal that you will profit from later. You take a chance that you will give a lot only to see your item lose value a few days later. You take a chance that you can build an inventory that will keep your trades flowing day after day. That's how trading works. People whine and cry about it but that's how it works. You win some. You lose some. It's the way it is. If you don't like it, don't do it.

People think I can say this because of what I have. I can tell you in the 2 years I've played this game, I am not ahead. I've pretty much broken even. For every rare item I've acquired, I've done 3 bad trades. Either given more than something is worth (find that out after the fact), or traded a huge amount for something that was released in quantity a few days later. But I'm not going to cry about it. I knew the risks and took the chance.

The whole idea of making everything equally available...that is just absurd. Remember the original tagline of this game: "Be the envy of the kingdom." Think about whose game this is...Disney. They're all about collectibles. That's part of the game. It's a challenge, and it should be. Like real life pin trading or whatnot.

When inferno was released, yeah I had a quick...dang!...reaction. But it passed as quickly as it came. I always knew there would come a day that inferno would be as common as fireworks. How many 50+ item trades did I do for my pins? More than I can remember. And all of it down the drain in a matter of seconds. But it didn't matter. I knew one day it would happen. My offer for the green staff shirt...dead. I bet all my infernos on doing that trade and now it was worthless. But that's the risk you take. That's what trading is all about.

There will always be something rare. There will always be something the majority is demanding. VMK releases a few new items every month and takes a few items away every month. New players join every day. Players like myself obtain certain objects (in my case inferno and red crates) and never trade them off again. All these factors add to the values. The market changes...sometimes drastically. And there's really not much you can do about since, for the most part, it's the players who cause these changes.

Trading is part of this game. To me, it's like any other mini-game. There are some rules. There are certain ways to play. And there's definitely always other players who are better at it. I simply just play the game and while I'm at it, try my best to have fun. That's all there is.

A well written post. I especially agree with the words in bold. I think much of the problem with the trade issues people have in VMK can be summed up in one word, Patience! How often does everyone jump at the first opportunity to trade for a newly released item, often trading way more then it is really worth? Look at the re-release of inferno. That week I saw players trading blue stitch hats, full sparrow, minnie, and even 2 red rockers for it. Now what is going for just a few weeks later, maybe three walls, a sparrow part? That's a big difference! Most of the really "Rich" players in VMK just so happen to be around for the longest time, and I'm sure they all started out just like today's newbies; poor. This game isn't a race, take some time out and have some fun. Save for that item you really want and wait until the price is right for YOU. More times then not you'll be successful. :thumbsup2

Let me say this:

Thjere is NO WAY someone traded 2 red rockers for an Inferno.

Even before Inferno was released in Movie Rewards, 1 red rocker would fetch 10-12 infernos.

I was standing in the room when the owner offered two (yes two) red rockers for inferno. The next day I saw him offer one rocker and a black candlestick for inferno. Sounds unbelievable yes, but I saw it with my own two virtual eyes.

i also believe VMK really should just sell everything over. There shouldn't be practically anything rare in game unless staff have it. To me, it just makes me even more sad to see people with items i could never get because they were lucky and joined VMK when it first opened. May 2005.

Maybe this is a stupid idea, but I seriously think VMK would just be alot more fun if all people could get everything in the game, just at higher prices to buy it.:snooty: People wouldn't have such an attitude. " Haha! I have This! And You Dont! " " Haha Look At U U Poor "

ditto:thumbsup2

I was also in this room and I know the person that turned down that trade offer for their inferno.

Once again, a trade is what people make of it. Said person was quite attached to their Inferno. Nothing wrong there: there are COUNTLESS items that I ended up not wanting to trade away for sentimental reasons.

Then I would have to think that you were all fooled by these two people. Anyone who has two red rockers might just be considered the games richest person.

i personally have never seen a red rocker go for more than 2 infernos at its apex of rarity. :confused3 After the quest it was in, it seemed to drop to about 1 and some change. Finally after it was in the makeover about 1.

What about the kid with the makeover? How many did he/she get? I know it was more than 1.

Anyway, I have seen red rocker go for several infernos on other forums.
