Nothing Rare Anymore

I have everything... except a red rocker and eye pin, yet I too would liek to see everything re-released.

This is somewhat of a rant, but I am curious as to other peoples thoughts too.

A while ago, VMK brought back the green flip hat for sale. Making it go from one of the most rare items in VMK, to not rare at all. I had given up a lot of stuff to get that hat, and I was a little annoyed when it came back. And my VMK playing slowed down greatly.

Then a day comes that I had been waiting months and months for, someone accepting my Inferno offer, which consisted of over 100 of my items, and the deal was made, I had my inferno, and no longer than 2 weeks later, BOOM. Inferno is offered on the movie rewards site. Needless to say, this is what pretty much ended my VMK playing.

Well I haven't been on in a long time, I signed on for the first time yesterday to see what this Magic Shop was all about, and I see even MORE rare items are now for sale. Sorcerer hat, top hat, bat magic, snowman magic.

It sorta killed any fun in trading, because you might trade some awesome items one day, only for the next day those items that you just got go from rare to worthless.

Has anyone else felt a little cheated, or lost the love for playing VMK because of most items no longer being rare or worth anything?

Sorry, but I wish they would release everything. I think everyone should have a fair chance at things and not just a few greedy people who want everything you got for one item.

whats the point of the trade button tho?

Yeah.

I don't want to sound mean, I certainly don't mean to be offensive, but playing the "greed" card to try to guilt VMK into taking the "game" out of their game isn't a fair way to get what you want.

i agree. to be honest, i feel jealous when i walk into a room where a person has 50 firewalls, green tea cup, cyan ariel, and all this other junk as if they were showing it off to others who dont have it. >_<

I don't have 50 firewalls. Or the green tea cup, cyan ariel, or any other original beta, and I have been playing VMK since beta testing. And those players I see who have those items and proudly display it because they often had to work hard to get it. I don't begrudge them their trading skills.

Wouldn't you display your rare if you had all those items? Of course you would.

I've been called "rich", even though I know many players who have way more rare items than I do. I happened to luck out during the pin trading event, and got the eye pin the original way. Same with inferno. I had to win a very challenging host game to win one. I fully believe I wouldn't have gotten those items through trading, because I am not that good at it.

While it is nice to think they should release the rare items, I just decided to earn credits to buy anything that did get released, items that interested me, like costumes and pins. My personal goal was to collect every costume piece and pin, and I've almost done so. I don't expect to get any beta furniture, but I'm ok with that.

And kids are cruel. They have been cruel when I was a kid, and they are still cruel now. It stinks when the cruelty is directed towards me or you. But because I am an adult, I can almost feel sorry for the kids being mean.

Why? Because they must have something lacking in their own lives if the only way to make themselves feel better is to tear someone else down. It's also fun to say "thank you" when someone tries to insult you. They don't know how to react to a pleasant response.

Wow, I'm getting preachy here. I better knock that off. ;)

I would like to skip over reading this post and then complain about you not mentioning any of this, just in the jolly spirit of tradition ;) , but I couldn't help but notice that you left out the word "for" between "begrudge them" and "their."

All kidding aside, I agree most with

Most would, you are right, but I dont. I have my main account which has all one of every item I own and I never, ever, play that account, just logon to get credits and log off.

I have a 2nd account which I use to try to acquire a 2nd item of everything and all my stuff is in rooms which I lock.

I started playing in June 2005. I don't have many beta items, but I have a few. How did I get them? As gifts from friends. I don't trade much. Personally, I think trading 3-4 windows for one item is ridiculous. I'm glad vmk has decided to re-release some of the rarer items. It does even up the playing field somewhat. I'm sure vmk is looking at all of the scams and cheats there are and doing what they can to stop them. I wish they would go after the cheats and scammers, but if this is truly the best way to stop them, I'm all for it. I've seen and/or heard of too many players who paid far too much for certain items and I'm only too happy for that to stop.

Personally I have no problem at all if they release rare items.. as long as they have high prices, we will still have to work hard to obtain the item.

Yeti, I dont completely agree, If they were to release everything, it would disrupt the trading economy, Yes there are very Rude and selfish people on VMK and in the real world as well, but that doesn't mean that everyone is a monster, I should know that myself. About 99% of the people on my
friends list (including you) do have many VMK rare items and are not 1 bit of a snob or rude to others, I refuse to let anyone on my friends list that treats someone in rude ways because if i do catch them they go straight off my list.

And Like many times it has been stated before, I dont believe in the entire "Rich" and "Poor" thing because these items hold no true life value, and i do agree that the only way you can be "Rich" in this game, is by the friends you keep and hold to your heart.

Almost everytime i play VMK there is always someone being rude or mean towards others, and you bet ya, I will always try my best to stand up for that person to help them in anyway possible because everyone needs a helping hand once in a while. There is no use in being malign towards others.

When Inferno was released, yes i did take some time off to think about what i would do, I did trade alot for it, but I stayed on not for the purpose of my items, but for the purpose of the people I care for. Which everyone should do, but many don't. Life does go on, Items or not.
This is a wonderful post and exactly the attitude I miss in VMK. I play VMK for my friends, period. I actually probably would never log on if not for the peeps on my friends list who I would miss terribly if I never saw them. I can't play for 10 minutes by myself because I get bored, but when I'm with friends I can play for hours and hours. Have I gotten annoyed with rare being released? Yes; I traded a lot for my cowboy back when it was rare, only to have it come back out a month later. But it did not devastate me and it did not make me leave VMK. My friendships are the rarest items in VMK, and they cannot be re-released or traded for.

I dont have everything.

I have traded LOTS for some things I have.

I dont believe everything should be re-released.

For some people, the fun of VMK is the challenge of trading and working their way to acquiring those more rare items.

In life, you dont get to own everything without putting a little effort in. In VMK, maybe, just maybe some things should take some work. (If not, let's just give everyone their green car while we're at it.)

By the way, having rare doesn't make you a snob and making everything "common" won't stop some from being snobs. Some people just are the way they are.

Where's the challenge if everything is easy?

I don't really agree with the title of the topic (bc there will always be those rare things a lot of people will never be able to get except if VMK decides to release them) but I see your point and actually, I think/react like that. When I started playing VMK, it was not to make friends but to be able to achieve things I never thought I would be able to achieve while joining the game .. In VMK, those things are getting things that were not in shops when I started, being happy to wear them because I worked for, being able to get my scores limits in games, building nice rooms even if I will never achieve to get award ...

Last summer, when VMK released the green flip hat, I was not really happy with that because it was a hat I liked to wear and I had to find the way to get it having not a lot of rare (it took me three months before being able to get it -_-). Now, VMK released the red HKDL shirt which was my favorite shirt since when I started playing VMK because I got a lucky trade .. Now, I don't even like to wear it because with all the people wearing the shirt, I don't feel like I worked for it and I am not proud to wear it ... Both times I started playing less VMK, but there is still something that I like in VMK : the brand new items they released and it is actually what keeps me playing.

But yet again, it is just because I started to play VMK with nothing, never put money into the game and that I really worked with time to get the things I liked to wear to finally see them released in shops -_-

We've all made bone-head trades where it just so happened that the powers that be were the impetus of our grief.

Lots of folks have traded away for items that ended up being on sale the next weekend. It happens, and it's very unlucky. But realize this: it's happened to everyone.

The inverse happened to me. On that infamous Pin Trading Weekend, I managed to get TWO Mighty Eye pins. I figured that they would be the Host pins for the rest of the month, so I traded them away to people that wanted them. I got several fireworks pins for one, and a yellow Explorer's vest for the other.

More than a year has passed, and I'm STILL kicking myself for that blunder.

But do I want the Mighty Eye's to become AVAILABLE again? No. Do I care that I may never get it again? Nope.

My most prized possession is still my Jack Sparrow suit. I spent a FORTUNE on Pirate Pin Packs while in DLR and I traded them all away for the suit when I got back home. I still always wear a portion of it, whether in Pirate mode or Indiana Jones mode. It's very special to me, because I worked very hard to get it. But the thing with the Jack Sparrow suit (and the Stitch hat for that matter) is that they were never given out/sold in VMK. That's something that you should watch out for. When you make a trade for something that was given out/sold in VMK, you have to brace yourself with the prospect that it may come back, and end up being less rare than when you traded for it. However, the Park Items or the "random code" items generally never are "rereleased." The Red Stitch Hat was VMK's way of saying, "the Blue Stitch hat is gone, here's this one for the folks that couldn't stay in a Disneyland Hotel for three or more nights and buy tickets accordingly."

What I'm trying to say is: get the items that you like and be happy with them. I could go on playing VMK without trading for the rest of eternity, going on to play games, hang with friends, and get credits for brand new items.

Ok for the record ( not at you dreams to everyone ) I at no point titled anyone here a snob I said only the people in game who flash their items at you and come off like they are better than you are and just rude to you. Those are snobs not anyone is this board is a snob.

I don't think there is a right answer or a wrong answer to this question. In my opinion, I think the answer depends on what is important to you, whether it is in VMK or in real life. Assuming that the item is something frivilous and non-essential, if you want to buy a certain item that is available, and can afford the time, effort, and cost of buying that item, then you should be able to buy that item. But if you can't afford to buy the item in the first place, you should not stress yourself out over something that is really nothing in the greater scheme of things.

I take middle ground here. I too have traded some hard earned items that were re released shortly thereafter. It does suck but I think it happens to a lot of ppl. I think they should absolutely re release SOME rare items and yet keep certain things retired. I know some will disagree with me but I also think that when they re release these items they should keep them for sale for a very short term, like a week or less and retire them again. That would at least up the value a bit for those who already had it. I do think they have re released too many rare items lately in comparison to what is actually new in the shops.

I do want to argue this point though. Some of you have the attitude that you worked really hard to trade for something for months or whatnot. Well unfortunately many of us in the real world don't have time to sit on the computer for hours at a time because we have jobs or kids or other responsibilities that take precedence....so I don't think it is fair to say that I should spend hours a day on the computer just to be able to obtain a rare item. Now I don't think everything should be given out easily either. There is no fun in that and I like a challenge but it is unrealistic to expect everyone on vmk to have the time to put in to get some of these super elusive items.

ok, so maybe your different, but i think the majority of vmk who spent hours upon hours working for an item would be fairly disappointed to see their item go on sale.,,,,,
Not me. I wouldn't care if Inferno came out for sale. I worked for more than 2 years and still couldn't acquire it. It finally took them releasing it to the DMR program that I finally got one. Yeah. I had to spend real money for a game. (Although, I would have spend it for the movies anyway).
Also, just a week or two before dreams month started, I traded quite a bit for a red tent. I was so happy when I finally got it. But was I upset when I found out they were giving them away during dreams month? Absolutely not. It happens. I realized that a long time ago. It's all pixels on a screen.

Personally, I think the best solution would to have a very limited release of some of the more rare items such as the yellow shoe or cyan ariel.
With the re-release of certain items that are rare but not as high up the scale, it causes problems. It seriously devalues the re-released items and makes those items higher up on the scale much more difficult to attain.
There are those players that have those very rare items that only want the other very rare items that no one can get a hold of.

I've basically given up on trading because no one that has what I want wants what I have. They only want things that I don't have to trade. And those that actually do want what I have don't have anything but buyables that I already have tons of.

There needs to be a point to trading. A goal that you can set. As it has started to become, there is no point because you can't get what you want without already having the extremely rare items.

I've been playing since September of 2005. You can see from the list in my signature that there's still a lot that I don't have.

I have everything... except a red rocker and eye pin, yet I too would liek to see everything re-released.

Sorry, but I wish they would release everything. I think everyone should have a fair chance at things and not just a few greedy people who want everything you got for one item.
This I do believe, but, I don't think would work for everyone.

I'm here to have fun not work. I get on VMK to get away from work.
Me too. But sometimes it just feels too much like work.
whats the point of the trade button tho?
If things were sold at a high enough price, there would still be people that couldn't get everything. Plus, if they have surprise one day only sales on items, those people that didn't know about it and didn't log in that day would still have to trade for those items.

Exactly

I agree with what cteddiesgirl said in response to your comment, but I was also thinking of the possibility that they could maybe release a handful of things at a time for only a weekend (just because I think a weekend would be just a little more fair than a one-day sale) and then retire it again and repeat the process with a different set of rare/desired items the following weekend. Not everyone can get on EVERY weekend, so a lot of people are bound to miss something, so there would still be a point in trading. It would just bring the trade value down to the point that it would actually be obtainable, even for the people who missed it when it was on sale.

We all play vmk differntly. Trading might not be everyone's forte but there is a huge population in vmk that trading is their primary reason to play. To them thats what the game is about. VMK can choose to isolate them if they want to, but search "trad" sometime and look at how many people are involved. There are more trade rooms then any other themes in the game.

As for the credit suggestion. The mini game players are not necessarily the traders. Most traders I know dont play any games for credits at all. They trade for everything they want. So if the idea is to assist the credit earners but hurt the traders, then so be it.

I have found people who don't have the items they really want and have played for a very long time, are not willing to part with their inventory to get it. Usually thinking it's silly to give so many items for one such item. Thats their choice, but the truth is they could have that item if they wanted it.
