Not sure if this is a Tecchie question or not but...

TomatoTart.jpg

...is that a frittata? Whatever it is, it looks delicious....

....THAT'S gotta be really annoying!

It's infuriating. :badpc:

....I'm beginning to think that it might be easier to let Photobucket hold my pix hostage and then just pay the ransom....:faint:

Don't do it. We really have no idea how much longer Photobucket will even be in existence. I have to wonder if this SUDDEN change wasn't because they ran out of money to be able to act as a third-party host. So they had to immediately pull the plug on it all. They KNOW most people won't pay - for services they CANNOT - not will not provide.

And anyone willing to shell out for services may not even see the services last a full year, let alone a few months. :sad2:

Paying for and not moving your photos will just leave you in bigger hole, as you won't even have access to them later, once they close down completely.

Just go little by little. Move & re-link what is immediately important to you. Your signature photos & your house photos for your thread that you care about and are still posting on. Then slowly move the other ones, several at a time.

I believe Flickr still has a free option.

....I've heard a lot of pros and cons about this particular site, and frankly, I'm a bit leary...

Yes, it free FOR NOW.

And it offers the ability to 3rd-party host so one can post photos elsewhere online FOR NOW.

But Flickr was recently bought by Verizon. And if you've ever had Verizon for your Internet service, you will know they weren't very good with offering a good email service. It was so basic, it left a LOT to be desired. :headache: So who knows what they will do with Flickr, once they decide to focus on it, IF they will. They could just let the program languish the way we saw Photobucket going down for quite a while. They could ALSO decide to only allow photo linking for their paid members. So we'd be back in the same spot.

I am sooo not willing to move my photos and create new links a third time. :badpc:

....this is what REALLY gets me....that photo was not originally mine [on my account] and there was much sentimental value to that particular photo...

You should be able to still get into your account. Although a couple pics, like for my signature, show that damn grey box, even at Photobucket. I had to click on them several times for them to finally show up as the real photo.

In the right column, there is a "Download" button which will download the pic to your computer. You can try getting it back that way.

What annoys me the most about this is that PhotoBucket went nuclear. I totally understand them wanting people who have a TON of photos that they have hotlinked to pay something, or limit them somehow. My library is 1% full with only about 150 photos. What a PITB. Frankly, if they offered a cheaper plan with hotlinking I might have stuck with them just not to deal with the PITB aspect. But NO! I am NOT paying $400 per year to hotlink to less than 200 photos. The freaking beancounters at PhotoBucket will realize what a huge mistake they made while people leave in droves.

I used to have a webpage/image posting with my old ISP. I'll probably look into something like that for my photos.

In the meantime, it's like PhotoBucket broke the freaking internet. Everywhere I look I suddenly see the stoopid "please update your account" in place of people's photos.

But they weren't making money off of us anyway. :confused3 Meanwhile, they were paying for all the bandwidth space we were all using having them host our pics. That's why I don't think they will be around in a few months. :scratchin Even of they charged us all a reasonable $5/mo, they are probably already in too deep of a hole. NOW, when they go under, they can blame US for not paying the $400 extortion fee.

Yeah, but they might have been able to make money off of us if they offered a reasonable option. PLUS, their advertisers pay for eyeballs. Fewer customers = fewer eyeballs = fewer advertisers.

Once I move my photos you bet that I will (1) remove ALL my photos, (2) CLOSE my account if I can and (2) remove the app from my phone. They will get the message if everyone does it.

I got the big boxes too. Photobucket was the first photo hosting site I was introduced to when I joined here, so I have pictures on there going way back. I use SmugMug as well, so I'm not sure I'm going to even bother trying to get the photos off of my PB. I think they all came from my photo library anyway so I have them somewhere else, and I've got my favorites on my iPad/ICloud too since I had to put a slideshow together for my kids' graduation last year, so they're all accessible. I did have to change my signature but I just took the avatar from a pic I had on hand. I was meaning to change it anyway. PB is being unreasonable. As Robin says, I might have been willing to pay a reasonable fee for use, but $400, no way.

I have a question. Can you still see your photos on PhotoBucket or are they totally held hostage? I'm busy downloading mine right now.

I can see them but it takes some clicking to get the grey box to go away.

I click on an individual photo. There's the grey box.

I enlarge the photo by clicking on the magnifying glass in the upper right corner. Then I can see the photo. (I can download this photo to my computer by right mouse clicking and then clicking "Save Image As." )

I click on "Go Back" in the upper left corner and the photo finally shows up again on that page. And there is also a Download button there in the right column.

Your OWN photos? Wow. My account is still OK but I'm downloading everything.

....can see mine when I log on, but I cannot copy and paste them....

....I just logged onto my Photobucket account and didn't have any problems seeing my photos. I was trying to consolidate them and have a lot of trouble moving photos into different folders....I'm just trying to get them into some kind of order...in some cases, the photos could not be moved....

....mine is about 17% full, or almost 800 photos....
