Not sure $149 Disney After Hrs event is doing well... (ETA: reviews in 1st post)

Maybe because it's discussion board? It's not a "we all think everything WDW offers is awesome" board.

I suspect that many of the folks "spreading negativity" are huge fans of WDW and they are frustrated to see the vacation destination they have loved for many years on a decline. So much so that they are contemplating giving up WDW even though going there has been a family tradition for many years.
And this thread is now officially like 75% of the ones on here. As the OP, can I suggest this duplicative thread be shut down? :)

I did say it was hard to tell. I'll refer you to wdwinfo's own report, http://www.wdwinfo.com/news-stories...-at-disney-after-hours-event-at-magic-kingdom. My supposition is not beyond reason.

I think you and I define this differently.

Fair enough but it doesn't change the fact that these free tickets were a little but of pixie dust sprinkled on some guests and not something free offered to everyone. Some people purchased them, some people got them for free, and some people got nothing. Should the people who got nothing demand some free tickets, afterall they are guests of Disney don't the deserve that customer service too?

I waited forever for DCL to release their summer 2017 11 night Norwegian Fjords/Iceland cruise..

Finally it came time for platinum to book!! I stalked the message boards looking for quotes so I could book the next day when offered to the public.

I watched such insane numbers I was completely in disbelief. I mean seriously, I just couldn't believe it.
The next morning I woke up earlier to check for myself.. Yep, there it was..
For me and my 6 year old to take said cruise.. In a standard room- over $13,300..
For 2 people. Standard room.

I was shocked, disgusted, and then shocked and disgusted some more.

I don't see any justification for these prices, that same itinerary this year did not sell well.

Sure, people booked that cruise, and I hope they have fun. There is NO value in that pricing for me though. So- I chose a different cruise line for me and my son for that itinerary.

Do I hate DCL now? Nope. We're going on the Fantasy in November.

Was I flabbergasted that they have such a disproportionate price on the Iceland itinerary? Sure.

You can choose to be bitter or you can just make other plans that suit your perceived value better. I chose the latter.

There is only 1 WDW, but several cruise lines.

There is only 1 WDW, but several cruise lines.
There is only one DCL. I wanted that experience for my son. Especially since it will be just him and I traveling in Northern Europe together. I won't utilize kid's clubs, so wanted the family entertainment options on board a Disney ship.

I won't pay that ridiculous price. I've traveled way too much to know what I can do with that same amount. And the value is not there for me. So, I went another route. If you don't see the value with WDW you can choose a different direction as well.

Once again you are not comparing apples to apples.

Free tickets were not advertised. They were given to select people.

Macy's coupons are COUPONS.
Not a gift certificate for a certain person.

We are miles apart on our sense of business and what people are entitled to.

Good luck in asking for refunds for a service that you received..
A refund that you claim is due because someone else received something special..
Not because something was advertised...
Not because you didn't get what you paid for..
but solely because you think that they owe you.

I think you are missing the distinction between someone feeling like they are ENTITLED to some kind of refund, and someone thinking that it is reasonable to REQUEST a refund or discount.

I don't think there is any question that someone who willingly pays out $149 for the event is not entitled to a refund as long as they receive exactly what they paid for. But, I also think it is reasonable for someone to request some sort of concession if it turns out that a lot of people got the same item for a lot less or nothing. That puts the ball in Disney's court to make a business decision about how they want to deal with one of their customers.

Ok.. "A lot" is how many? Do you know? We know that people were chosen by Disney with an offer for free tickets. We know that free tickets were not advertised to the public. We know that there was never a discount advertised. We know that the people who paid $149 did in fact attend MK after hours-as advertised.

Those are the facts that we know.

Not one of those facts contain any VALID reason as to why someone should REQUEST a refund.

You will have quite a stressful life if you're always worried about someone who received a perk that you didn't.

To all the people who are so worried about it- Good luck.

Clearly logic and common sense are not possible on this thread.

Have you ever made a purchase from a store only to find out the next week that it went on sale??? (or.... free, in a buy one get one free scenario) You wouldn't hesitate to take your receipt back for the refund of the difference, would you? It's the same thinking!
I wouldn't hesitate to ask for a refund or discount!
But that's because the current price of the item changed. In this case the price hasn't changed but some tickets have been gifted. Not the same at all. If disney dropped the ticket price by $50 then yes I would ask for the difference, but them gifting some tickets is not a price change and all the comparisons in the world won't change that.

I haven't either. I've seen rumors and innuendos, but I've not seen much proof that a majority -- or even a large percentage of the guests for either night were comped. That might be the case, or it might not, but it certainly seems like it's the narrative that is being adopted at the DIS right now.

I hope it catches on and becomes the norm, especially during the summer. I know the combination of lesser heat and fewer riders could appeal to a lot of people. And if they could keep the crowds at about 10K, I think it could be a great new option for a lot of people attending MK.

And even better, the people who do take up the DAH might be people who would normally be in the park during the day, but because they are now doing this event they may stay out of the park during regular hours thus reducing the attendance (albeit only by 1000) and potentially end up having a positive effect on your experience with fewer people and shorter queues...

This is what I've been saying! To the people who seem to think it will be such a negative impact on their vacation--it is actually helping the crowds..not creating them.

Logic lives!!!!! Woot woot!! ;)

People have gotten refunds for all sorts of crazy things at WDW...Villains party, MNSSHP, MVMCP, DVC points, room comps, meal comps etc. There are plenty of stories right here on the DIS. Whether those folks DESERVED or were OWED the refund is endlessly debatable. But the FACT (since we seem to love this word) is that Disney folds faster than Superman on laundry day for those who complain loudest. It is what it is. And while we're at it, if those people DO get refunded, how is it any of our business? Doesn't impact out vacation right? So what if they choose to utilize angry energy to placate themselves.

Right?

Sometimes reading the disboards is interesting and sometimes it is like banging your head against a wall. Like when you keep waiting for a thread to change directions, back to being interesting, to people who say interesting things instead of repeating themselves over and over and over and over and over again.
Seriously people :faint:

If I had shelled out $750 for my family and found out that the folks next to me were given free tickets (because not enough were sold) I'd be pretty pissed.

But would you when the alternative is to cancel the event? Would you rather have your money back or the event you've been looking forward to?

Clearly.

Instead of insulting the perfectly valid logic of people who simply disagree with you, I would suggest conceding that those who disagree might actually have some, ahem, logical points and just agree to disagree.

I think it's a reasonable and even logical assertion that a company giving away something to some people that others paid for cheapens the product for those who paid for it, and I can't blame those who paid full price for disliking that and asking for some type of redress from customer service.

So those that pay should feel
good about saving the night. $750.00 is a lot of goodwill. I think it should then be counted as a charitable contribution and a tax deduction. :)

No, but I'm saying that if the event undersold, Disney had a few choices. One of which is to cancel the event and refund everyone their money. If I was on a long weekend with my best friend and had bought tickets for this event to spend some of the limited time we have together at Disney World riding space mountain until we threw up mickey bars and we had been looking forward to it, I PERSONALLY would prefer for Disney to choose an option that allows them to remain open so we can ride space mountain until we throw up mickey bars.
