Not sure $149 Disney After Hrs event is doing well... (ETA: reviews in 1st post)

From what I understand, they can't use dues for events like this. Especially now that they are restricting resale buyers.
Let me back up. Cause I said about the dues. I should not have said that. We don't know for sure but you would assume dues don't go towards this. Sorry my bad.

I'm curious how they determined which DVC members got this email. Did it just go to people with stays booked for tonight? I'm a DVC member, and I definitely didn't receive it.
I didn't get it either but I assume it was for people there that night on property I bet. Who knows, but people responding all seem to be there now.

Since this does not require additional passes, it would be a great standalone for a deep Disney fix. It's pricey, but I wager that you would get as much headliners done in the exclusive 3 hours as a full day with FP+s. With entry in the early evening devoted to high capacity/low demand rides. It would cover most of MK in one fell swoop.

So for those among us who can't devote a full vacation to WDW it offers a lot of bang (for a lot of bucks).

At $149 if all you have is one evening to spend at Disney, I think it's actually a lot of bang for your buck. A one day ticket to MK is $110. With that $110, you still have to buy food, drinks, snacks, or bring them in. If you get two bottles of water, and one mickey ice cream, you're now at around $120 value. For that extra $30 on that only one day you get to spend at MK with less crowds once the regular visitors leave, it seems well worth it to me. I wouldn't consider it on a regular Disney trip, but if we were headed down to the Keys and decided to spend one day in Orlando, I would strongly consider this option.

But Disney knows none of this. SO a family with PAP's for many years and 5-6 visits a year does not renew. I am now going on 90 days out. I have not received ONE email or snail mail to remind me, to ask me why I haven't renewed, nothing ....................... absolutely nothing.

THIS is terrible!!! TERRIBLE customer service! Shocking how little they seem to care anymore.....

  1. Right on the contract u sign on the dotted line for.
  2. Perks can come and go at any times.
  3. And how can DVC tell you up front all the time what the perk might be? They don't know what parties or such they are having from year to year let alone 5 years from now?
You do realize, don't you, that #1 stands in direct contradiction to #s 2 and 3.

- There was a time there were no EMH.
- When they were added it was for a fee.
There's another bullet point worth noting here. There was a time when EMH existed, (called "Surprise Mornings"), and then were taken away, replaced by a lame substitute called "Character Caravans". So the removal of early opening days is certainly not without precedent. To be fair, the Character Caravans went over like a lead balloon and "Surprise Mornings" returned in the form of EMH. So I suppose that if EMHs were taken away again, and the public backlash is anything like it was the last time this happened, Disney might have to capitulate again. Never say never, but I can see EMHs being seasonal, or severely cut back. But I can't see them going away forever. Heck. All Disney has to do is "open" a park at 10:00 a.m., and then "add" EMHs from 9:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m. and give everyone the appearance that they are getting a great deal by staying on site. That would have the same net result as simply eliminating EMHs and opening the park at 9:00. Repeat that on the back end. Close the park at 8:00 p.m. and give people EMHs from 8:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m. and you keep the on site perk, and reduce your overall hours at the same time. As Buckeye noted earlier, "evil genius."

I believe the fine print was you had to be staying there NOW.

I just completed a call with DVC (for the gift card) and the man mentioned 8000 DVC members getting in tonight for free.

That's it. Complete FAIL.

I completely agree with this!

I have absolutely no grasp of the numbers for DVC membership or likely count on site at any given time. I understand that the invitation went out to DVC members on site right now. Does it seem feasible that 8000 DVC people are there, noticed the email invitation, and are able to incorporate this into their days' plans on short notice?

Does anyone know what they cap attendance at for the holiday parties?

Disney does not release those figures for regular crowd days or for parties. I'm not sure where people get the info, but I've seen people on this board put daily attendance caps at 60,000 and report parties around 35,000. No idea whether these are good accurate estimates or complete WAGs.

I wondered that as well.

There are easily enough people in DVC rooms for this number to be true. DVC statistically runs higher numbers per room than typical hotel rooms, which occupy at around 3.3-3.4 people per room. DVC has to be closer to 4. So that would be 2,000 rooms. Definitely doable. Bay Lake Tower alone has almost 500 rooms, and the Boardwalk Inn + Villas is almost 900. The unknown is how many of those rooms are actually being occupied right now by people using points versus how many rooms were booked by "regular" guests. And would people who are renting points from DVC members get the offer? All unknowns. But once the offer was made, I'll bet it wasn't hard to twist people's arms to get them to attend. A free "private" party in the MK. That is on almost every Disney fan's bucket list. Short of a wedding reception or rehearsal dinner, or a really tough-to-get ADR like V&A, I would imagine that the vast majority of people who got the offer figured out a way to make it work. I got an offer to attend the Masters on a moment's notice one year, and it took some work, but I made it happen (from New England).

Whoa. That's a lot of free people. And the count for this event was touted be lower than a hard ticketed party @ 25k. Looking forward to hearing reviews though...
