Not sure $149 Disney After Hrs event is doing well... (ETA: reviews in 1st post)

Yeah, but in order to limit tickets and be profitable, the price has to be high enough.

Exactly. I am sure there is a number that only Disney knows that says in order for an extra hours MK event to be profitable for them, they have to hit that mark. It has to cost a small fortune, in salaries, electricity, food, etc to keep it open X amount of hours. If you sell 25,000 tickets, you can lower the price. If you sell only 3000, then it stands to reason the cost would have to be much greater.

I think at times, some really forget this about profit.

As to the tickets given to DVC members, we really don't know if they were free or bought by DVD, which paid for the DVC exclusive event at the MK for the Anniversary DVC events.

I have enjoyed the MVMCP, MNSSHP, and P&PPs. I might be willing to pay a bit more for those, although I don't find them particularly crowded. When we went in 2012, we were the only ones on the Ariel ride. That's all that was open there at the time. We went into the circus tent, and it was a bit eerie.
I hope you're right!!! We are going for the first time in December. I keep reading about high crowds. However-- I've also been reading that MK itself is not crowded from 9am-4 pm. So we will be doing MK in the morning then going back to CR for a few hours before heading to MVMCP

Throw in a few rare characters and I'm in.

Mr. Iger, are you listening?

Depends on the rare characters...

Now if you threw in some Star Wars Characters I bet my DH would be very interested! (I still want a meal)

My husband and son too, with a Star Wars twist to it.

I think there was a reason for giving away the tickets. In my opinion it was a good move to make.

"Free" marketing. Postive feedback.

Can someone send an email to Photopass? BB8 Magic shots!!! Omg my son would love it!!!

BB-8 was at the RunDisney event last week. :) No magic shot needed for that! My dh had the pleasure. I bet BB-8 shows up elsewhere from time to time. They have to have several of them. He was at the Expo center, the runs, and DHS all at the same time. So at least 3 of them!

No, not forgetting. I don't think for a moment it is sustainable as it is. I don't expect a decrease in cost. I expect it to quietly go away.

I will be at MK next Thursday evening. I am not buying the ticket for this though. Just planning to close the park down at 10, buy a few Mickey bars and keep my hand on the $129 in cash that I'll have leftover. Hahaha

I *might* be ok with a little higher cost. But I would need them to improve the character lineup so they had more that weren't available during a regular park day already.

Typically it's not crowded. But last year I noticed a significant increase in crowds compared to past years. But still better to go on a MVMCP day than another day. But that's totally off topic from this thread.

Now if they did something like this at exit during food and wine and had lots of goodies I would be interested. Would have to convince dh on the ticket price.

Now that would be clever marketing. In "shoulder season" where park hours aren't as long, try to sell the tickets at the exits of other parks closing earlier. Still have gas in the tank? Come on over to MK!

Oh my goodness I had no idea!! Ok..so hopefully we will see him at some point!!

ok well thanks for you off topic response lol. I've been stressing about crowds and dates from months.

No, it isn't. The entire basis is figuring out the correct price point. Where it's at now seems to be the sweet spot.

IF you compare it to a 1 day ticket. And IF you see value in more efficient park time to experience certain attractions.

Sweet spot? Even if they sold all 1000 tickets (which we know they didn't) that is $150k in revenue. Assume their normal 25% margin (which is SUPER generous for only 100 guests and keeping all rides open) and that's $37,500. Even if they had this "event" 50 times that would be a whopping 1.875 million dollars. That is six HUNDREDTHS of a percent profit increase...

It was surely the sweet spot for the few that bought the tickets, but far from the sweet spot for Disney. 1.875 million is a rounding error for Disney.

I would bet that they would have made at LEAST that amount by keeping the parks open for all customers the same time and selling food, drink and souvenirs.

IF I wanted to pay for it I would. I wouldn't based on the fact that they give tickets away for free. For me, it's the principal of the thing. Also, IF they were packing the park with this perfect price point, there wouldn't be any extra tickets to give away.
If they were packing the park during an event sold as offering extremely low, attendance, the event would be a flop.
I think it was actually pretty brilliant to give some away.
I think it was necessary.
I think it was smart marketing.

Could you expand on quietly go away. There are only seven events scheduled with zero indication of immediate continuation - so no events after mid-May doesn't mean it's going away.

Don't laugh I am not much for rides I like parades fire works. I love the parties. I rather go to the food and wine any day. I love atmosphere and entertainment.

Totally off topic but we don't go on weekend nights.
Back on topic, I'll be there in a couple of weeks and 2 of our 3 MK days are now DAH days, though we never planned on being there late anyway. I will try to notice if there is any significant increase in crowds after 7. That Sunday is our Princess Day, and we were planning on Wishes MSEP and CTM that day, but we may switch it up to our non DAH day.

So, it is not considered a flop when they give tickets away? Where is the value in that? Do they expect to sell a lot of merchandise? No sarcasm intended.

I don't think we know for sure they are given away. We only know that those they were given to, did not have to pay for them. It is very possible DVD paid for them.

I think some folks are confusing things:

Low attendance and giving tickets away is a flop for Disney
Low attendance is a flop for those guests not taking part
Low attendance was a win for those people that purchased it (even more so for those that got free tickets!). They got what they wanted but I'm pretty sure it was a one time thing, either attendance will dramatically rise, or Disney will not have this after the initial 7 events. It doesn't make financial sense for them.

Like someone else said, DVD may have agreed to pay for a certain percentage of the tickets right from the start and it was part of the plan, we just don't know. I guess we will find out if they keep these events going.
