Not So Scary Halloween Party

If memory serves, the dates are available shortly before ticket sales start.

However, the Sept. and Oct. calendars are out, so a 7pm MK closing is a pretty good indication of a party that night except Sept. 5 and 6 which is NOJ.

Thank you :) .

It would be so much simpler if we were travelling in September or October, but we're actually waiting (no so patiently :rotfl:) for the official dates to see if Josh at Easy WDW is correct in his prediction that there will be two parties on Labor Day weekend (MK is showing an early closing on August 29th and September 1st). Its the August 29th party that would be our only possibility. So fingers crossed and hoping for the best!

Anyone ever been? What's it like?

I almost wish we weren't coming during this time (coming Oct 19th) as it really limits our MK days. I'm thinking of doing the Halloween thing for one night, but then need to pick MK on one of the few nights where it's not going on so we can stay past 7pm and see the Electrical Parade.

Anyways...what exactly goes on for this? Is it worth attending?

We did this once...
it was worth it, the lines for the rides were quick which is always nice... and the candy was top notch, none of that generic stuff.. plus they gave you hand fulls.. vs a piece or two....

We were actually onsite for Halloween but attended the MNSCHP on the 1st of NOV... the resort (POR) gave out candy on Halloween night with a bond fire, roasted marshmellows and scary stories. very cool as well!

Its one of those things you have to do at least once for the kids..

The party is the best ticketed event Disney does in our opinion. They are built for it with the natural hero/villain format of most stories/fairytales. It's definitely worth it in our opinion.

You have all the normal rides and attractions (admission limited to party guests only), parades (early and late), special fireworks, Villains stage show, special meet and greets, trick or treating, character dance parties and hot cocoa and cookies. Plenty of things to do and the chance to hit attractions with short lines.

Love this party! I've been twice and plan to go again in September.

I've also been to the xmas party, and don't plan to attend that one again. Glad I did it, but one and done.

The Halloween party is fantastic. I love the characters, I love that I (a forty something yr old woman), can dress up and trick or treat, love the ghost magic shots, and the parade/fireworks are the best we've seen.

We've been to the Halloween party for the past 2 years, both times in mid-October. 2013 seemed much more crowded than 2012, but we're definitely planning on doing it again when we go this fall! Lines for rides were excellent and the kids loved the candy and fireworks, too. Planning on taking time to watch the parade this year as I hear it's excellent.

Question...we will definitely be attending as there are only positive things said about it...so looks like something not to be missed.

My question is...it works out best in our schedule to go on a Friday, but is this silly? i.e. are the crowds that much worse?

We are going to do it for sure when we are there in September. My kids don't care much about meeting characters, but they will have a great time with trick-or-treating and short lines for rides.

How many kids dress up? Will the kids stand out if they do or don't?

Locals attend the Friday parties, so crowds will be greater. It will still be much less crowded than a normal park day, so just go with what works best for you.

here is a question I hope somebody can answer, do they give out any kind of bag/basket to put the candy in that they give away

Each guest receives a bag when they have their party ticket scanned. We always bring a backpack to store the bags in while we are not actively trick or treating. Just be sure to have them out during the parade and as you leave the park. CMs will toss stuff in during the parade and upon exiting the park for the night.

Most, but not all, children dress up. My guess would be 80% of kids and 40% of adults.

I agree with the previous poster, the majority of kids are dressed up to some extent.
Our first year, we weren't sure what to expect (and I hadn't discovered DIS yet!) so our daughters wore orange/black tutus with Halloween-themed Minnie Mouse shirts. They wanted to wear princess dresses but later opted out of it.
Last year, the family wore Mouseketeer shirts. Not super original, but comfy and still Disney-themed! :)
I would recommend you do what you will feel most comfortable with - we saw everything from elaborate to just regular "street" clothes, and everyone still seemed to be having a great time!

OUr first trip as a family, I had no desire to go to MNSSHP. I'm not really a big Halloween fan. I don't get into it. I don't take my kids trick or treating, I think it's dumb. I don't know, I guess I'm just a big fat Halloween scrooge. :)

But hubby BEGGED and BEGGED to go. I finally caved even though I really had no desire.

It ended up being the highlight of our trip. We went back again on our next trip and we are going back again this year. It was just so much fun. For me, personally, the highlight is how short all the lines are while people are busy doing other stuff. Hubby loves the parade. Kids love the candy. EVeryone's happy.

My kids like to dress up. But I find they get tired of the costumes after awhile. This year we are getting personalized embroidered shirts from an Etsy shop. THey are very Disney but they will be more comfortable to last the whole night!

I am hoping to go to the Halloween party someday. I know the last party for the season is pretty close to the day of my birthday.

I went Halloween Eve several years ago, and it was AMAZING!! I was nervous about dressing up since I was by myself, but nearly everyone participated in some way and there were plenty of adults (with and without kids) in costume; it was the best experience I've had at Disney. The parade is great and the Hallowishes fireworks are incredible. It was definitely worth the money. If I could, I would go back for this event every year!

I tried to book BOG for our trip, (specifically the night of Oct 21, which is a predicted date of MNSSHP) but none of the restaurants are available.

Does anyone know if they become available when they release the party dates, or are the table service restaurants closed those nights anyway?
