Not ready yet???!!! A February trip report! Update 10/25 Day 9

Karin!! What amazing pictures from your Trek....my sister has a terrible fear of those rope bridges...I couldn't help but think about the time when we were kids and I waited until she was halfway across and I started jumping....so mean!!! You guys looked like you're having so much fun and you actually look like you're on an authentic trek.....awesome:thumbsup2

I think I would be so nervous with those gators below me. EEEK!
But I love all the shots they take of you.

I am going in August for an Agent Education program and one afternoon is at AK fir a "park experience". I don't know what that means? But I keep secretly wishing it would be this. I highly doubt it though. I think they would have to be sure we knew it and were Ok with that, as there are people of all adult ages going. But still it would be so neat!! ;)

That is a well secured bridge you walk over, Jen, no need to be nervous! ;)
We got about 130 photos and they even gave us a certificate to apply to our photopass account, so ALL our PP photos were for free! :cloud9:

I really hope your Agent Education program will work out and I'm keeping my fingers crossed, this IS what you are going to do! You'll love it.
We have already talked about doing it again - not too sure if I want to do it in the summer though. ;)

Oh my gosh, Karin!!!! Those are amazing photos! Everyone on that Tour was incredibly courageous and adventurous! Being a certified wimp, I could never do a tour like that, but it sure is fun watching you & Tom! :thumbsup2

The individual pics they take of you are great!!!

Have some catching up to do tonight! GREAT update! TY!!:goodvibes

Thanks for deeming us courageous and adventurous, but remember, this IS Disney and it was a breeze, just a very amazing one! :lmao:

And I am pretty sure you could do that as well. You are always well secured and the walking is not too much!
Oh, did I mention that they feed you too? ;)

Karin, how physically fit do you need to be for this? It sounds wonderful and like something I ( not fit) and my friend (very fit) would really enjoy. Poor DH will be a few months past a total hip replacement so he would not be up for it. Thank you for the report and photographs of it!:)

I am not fit at all and it was VERY easy to do. The part of the park you walk through is flat and there are a few bushes and branches you have to push aside, but apart from that it is just plain walking. The steps on the bridges are spaced apart sometimes, but VERY easy to manage!
And the walking is only during the first part of the tour, there is a huge part of the tour where they drive you around in a Safari vehicle.

I think I could handle it !1The Bridges would be scary but with the hook up I think I could do it !! Hmm Maybe I can convince them at People and Places to make it part of the Free Trip next year!!!!

I am sure you could, Rosie, any pole dancing escort could! :rotfl2:

To be honest I was a bit weery about being hooked up and going to the edge or crossing the bridges, but it felt very secure all the time!
A free trek would be even better, Rosie! :thumbsup2

Wow how close were those crocs :scared1: You got some great shots though and it's cool you got to stop a little bit and take some photos :)

They might appear closer than they actually were - a good zoom helps a lot! :lmao:
They were about 15 feet away from us - way below us - so we felt pretty secure.
Everyone took their own sweet time to cross the bridges and took a few photos! :thumbsup2

Those are such awesome pictures! :thumbsup2

Thank you, Ann! Glad you enjoy them. :goodvibes

Great pictures! That looks like so much fun!!!

Thank you! It was such a fun tour - We can highly recommand it! :thumbsup2

Thank you!
I can so relate to your sisters fear of rope bridges. There are some in Disneyland Paris and they "wobble" quite a bit if enough people are on them, so I was not too much looking forward to that experience. But on the trek only one or two people are allowed on the bridges, so it is really okay.
We had so much fun and it felt like an authentic trek - you and Jasmine would really love it too! ;) :goodvibes

Karin, I admire your courage! I got nervous the first time we had to cross the "bridge" in Animal Kingdom Lodge to get to our room. :rolleyes1

Your pictures are amazing:thumbsup2

It looks like an amazing experience but I am very glad you do such in depth trip reports b/c I don't think I'll be signing up anytime soon. It just reminds me too much of that Indiana Jones movie where they have to cross a bridge like that over crocs. It didn't end to well for some of them:scared:

Wooooow, it looks so exciting, Karin!!! Makes me want to book this more and more.

I really like how authentic they were with the missing steps on the rope bridges. That's one of the details I really loved.

Did the bridge sway a lot? Or did it feel really sturdy?

You were able to get so close to those crocs!!! Great photos.

What's that animal up in the tree there? A monkey?

Shari,
that bridge in the Animal Kingdom Lodge is FAR scarier than the ones we had to cross! :rotfl2:

It IS and amazing experience and we are tempted to do it again. We just today discussed that MAYBE we'll already do it again in September ;), they have added on to the Boma area and I would SO love to see it! :goodvibes
I can assure you, those bridges are very secure! There is a net under them and you are hooked up with a safety line! :thumbsup2

You so should do it, Yuki, if it is in your budget. It is kind of pricey!

You completely forget that you are in a theme park! :goodvibes The guides stay in character the whole time and they are SO knowledgeable!

The bridge swayed a little, nothing like the ones we cross in DLRP on Adventure Isle. I felt pretty uncomfortable having to cross them BEFORE we went across the training one, but they feel very safe!

And the animal up in the tree - well, to be honest I can't remember. We were told it was a marker and it looked like a stuffed dog. :rotfl2:

Day 4, February 22

Megan and Meghan take us to Wild Africa! - Part 7

Megan and Meghan explained what would happen next and soon we were off and joined the convoy of Safari Vehicles.

The difference between them you ask? Well, the most significant difference was that our Safari Vehicle stopped and we got to take real close up looks at the animals while our guides answered our questions and pointed out more animals to us.

After we had driven along the Safari Route for a while we took a right and drove right up to the new Boma,

a overlook that gives you a wonderful view of the Savannah and its animals.

When we had disembarked from our vehicle and had walked onto the overlook the tables had been set up and we all had lunch.

There were little tin boxes, always two stacked on top of each other and they were filled with a lot of yummy treats.

IMG_9752.jpg

The top box had three little containers,

IMG_9746.jpg

of which one was filled with the most delicious chilled balls of fruit, three kinds of melons and a pineapple one.

IMG_9750.jpg

One container had a huge amount of prosciutto, very thinly sliced

and the third one was holding a heavenly curried chicken salad.

In the lower container were chilled shrimp, a salmon roll filled with cream cheese on some kind of slaw and a sun dried tomato hummus.

IMG_9751.jpg

There were also three small pita breads and a wooden spoon. On a table to the side there were metal cups, jungle juice and water to drink.

We took our containers to a small unoccupied table at the front of the outlook, sat down, enjoyed our lunch and watched the animals. Once we were done,

Meghan took some more photos and then there was still time to take a look of the most beautiful restrooms in the whole of Africa.

You know, I have always heard people say that the main difference in these vehicles and the regular Safari ones were that they let you stop and stand up to take pictures, but I always thought, "There isn't much standing room in the Safari vehicles." Now I see that the vehicles are different too! Plenty of standing room for people to get up.

Ohhh, it wasn't a real animal up there! Haha...silly me.

Yeah...this trek IS pricey...I'll have to consider it for my future future trips. I think it's REALLY COOL that your guides are in CHARACTER.

Wow...that looks like a really nice lunch. From previous pictures everything looked so small, but I guess it was bigger than I thought! It looks very yummy and filling.

Did you eat your flower? I heard it was edible.

Karin, thank you for sharing this most amazing journey! I had no idea you could do this at AK. Now this will be a quest for me to make this happen. I forgot - do you have to be a guest at AKL to sign up for this one?

First off, the vehicles stop very often and let you watch the animals. There is a max of 12 people per tour, so loads of room in the vehicle, they even provide binoculars!

The lunch was WONDERFUL and there was plenty of it! The individual containers are not very big, but there is plenty of stuff in them. We really enjoyed it!
And the food was VERY tasty too! :thumbsup2
And NO, we did not eat the flower, even though we had been told we could. I have had edible flowers before and I am not a huge fan. :lmao:

It's a pretty new tour. It just started before we went in February and it really peaked our interest! We were lucky enough to snatch it at the "trial" price of 130$ per person! :scared1: :lmao:
You should definitely sign up for it, as it is truely an adventure ......... and everyone can book it, you do not have to be an AKL guest! :thumbsup2

Is it wrong that I want to go on the Trek for that delicious lunch!:lmao:

Crossing those bridges is totally worth it for that lunch! :rotfl2:

If it is, then I'm in the wrong too! ;)

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

count me as another person who thinks the food may be a reason to book this tour! YUM. Course, your pictures always make me hungry!

Yummy lunch at the Boma and wonderful views too :) Love the fact that the safari vehicles stop and let you look for longer :)

What a neat experience. I love the giraffe pictures. How awesome. And lunch looks fun.

Karin,
The Wild Africa Trek looks amazing! Your pictures turned out great. Definitely something I need to think about looking into.

Wanna know a secret? The food WAS a part of what made US book this tour! I had seen pics before and really wanted to try it!

I really want to try their Safari breakfast too. Our trek was at midday, so we got lunch, but I have seen photos of the breakfast and I really wanna try that too!
The vehicle stopped every so often to let us watch the animals. I felt bad for the regular safari people as we sometimes stopped and kind of blocked the best view of the animals for others. (at the giraffes - we drove up real close and it was right in front of our vehicle, and we were between the regular vehicles and the giraffe in the end)

What a neat experience. I love the giraffe pictures. How awesome. And lunch looks fun.

I really hope this is part of your programme, Jen. It was a wonderful experience and I cannot wait to repeat it - hopefully for breakfast then! They even expanded the Boma deck, so you can now see even more animals! :woohoo:

The Wild Africa Trek is awesome! We really enjoyed every minute of it! Maybe you can fit it in sometime in the future!

Really enjoying your African trek pictures. I did the trek last month and it was such a great experience. Really memorable!
