I don't want to ask another how much to tip question. My question is simply if I am on the dining plan and want to leave the tip on my room card - how is that worked out. Do they hand me a bill, and I sign something and tell them I want to tip to the room, or do they give you a bill like a hotel charge and you just add a tip and they deduct it when they deduct the TS credits? DH has been asking me exactly how it works and I am just trying to get the logistics of it. I don't want to bother carrying a lot of cash on me but want to make sure my server gets his/her appropriate tip.

You will be handed the bill and your waitor asks how you would like to pay for the tip. If you want it on your card, you write in the amount before he deducts the credits so that the card is only swiped once. If you want to leave cash, they ask for it then and there rather than you just leaving it on the table. Either way, they know what you're giving them before you leave. *This has been on our experience both on and off the meal plan, but others may have had totally different experiences*

I am happy to read this clarification. I have read several answers on here, but not until now was it made clear. Thank you:) I was just going to leave it in my designed envelope on the table..

okay - interesting way of doing it - thank you for the clarification!

Just to clarify, the only time you should have to let the server know about the tip before they swipe your card is if you are charging it to the room. Any other tip can be left after.

When the card is swiped for the DDP the computer asks about the tip and if it is charged to the room, you need to enter it at that time. After it takes off the plan it has a remaining balance of the designated tip amount and at that time you swipe the card as a room charge for that amount.

If you are going to leave cash, you may just tell the server that and then leave it AFTER they bring back the DDP to sign. There is absolutely no reason for them to have it before then and if they tell you that they need it first, then they are lying to you.
