last year when we flew down to WDW after 9/11, our locks were cut and returned in a zippered compartment. So, it was obviously searched. Nothing was missing
this year we didn't put any locks on but I did worry about the zippers opening up.
I'll have to remember the great ideas about using the circular key ring and plastic twist ties.
I've never locked my luggage either. Why bother? Anything irreplacable I leave home, everything else valuable I keep on me. Clothes are the only things that go in our luggage.
Our local airport is going to start searching every suitcase that goes on the plane beginning Jan. 1st. It's about time.
The only problem I've ever had with luggage is having two complete suitcases stolen in the baggage handling process. These were two large, brand new, good quality pieces with two completely brand new vacation wardrobes inside.
An uncle of mine was fond of the statement that "locks are made for honest people." If they want it, they're going to take it.
I do like the key ring idea, though. Frequent travelers have given us the advice of using less expensive and well worn luggage so it doesn't catch the scums' attention so easily. I'm also tempted to rig a set bear trap inside so they lose their $#%&&% arms! I'd hate to have an honest inspector get hurt, though.
I've also grown much fonder of driving instead of flying and 9/11 had very little to do with that. Plan "B" is simply to move a lot closer to WDW
Flew today and I did have my lock on... didn't really think much about it til I saw this thread again. Locks stayed on.. but I think maybe I'll have to ask Santa to bring me a few key rings in my stocking.
