Not having great luck with National!

Even using my "best" codes and coupons, I'm not having much luck with a good rate from National. We usually prefer EA because we've lucked out in the past year and snagged a PT Cruiser three times! I know, love 'em or hate 'em, we love driving them! Anyhow, the best rate I can come up with (priceless code, $20 off entertainment coupon) is around $140 for the week (Dec 8-15) for intermediate. Last June it was about $30 lower. Even Alamo is lower than National. Anyone know what's up?

I can't find anything at a good price! Going on Nov 13th and cheapest I can find is $200 for a week!

That's the price I have too for Dec 4 to 10. I usually pay about $115-$120 in December, I'm hoping it comes down some. It usually comes down in the last month if they have alot of cars left. This year might be harder since many people rescheduled their August/September trips. I can live with $140, that's not bad for a week. I remember the first time I rented a car (1998) it was about $220 for the week!

Try it again today. I've been watching rates for around this time also, and they did come down about $20 today. Good luck!

I just tried mine again - still hasn't budged - 12/2 - 12/8 - full size - priceless plus $20 Ent coupon - $147.20.

EA was only $8. less and this trip I wanted to be assured of a full size.

I just called National to see what's going on and if they could get me a better price. She couldn't. It's coming up at $46 to $48 per day from economy to midsize! She thinks its because they don't really have any cars to rent because of the hurricane's and these high prices will discourage renters until they get their stock back from the people using them since their cars were destroyed or damaged. I did get an incredible rate of $15.99/day for economy on 10/6 using the MAG code with Dollar for my Nov 8-11 trip. I couldn't get that today though. I'll keep trying National until my trip.

Hmmm...maybe I'll give priceline a try. Always had great luck with hotels, pretty good luck with airfare, but have never tried cars before...hmmm...

Maybe you guys should look at the thread on this board about the folks arriving at the National counter to NO cars the past couple of days. Sounds like LOTs of folks are reserving only to get nothing and National picking up the tab to transport you to the resorts via other methods. It's not good and I leave in a couple of days--ugh!

We arrived in MLB this morn and a man came up to the counter and asked the guy to quote him a rate for an upcoming trip. The employee told the guy your not gonna like our rates right now. They are horrible due to the lack of cars. I tried rebooking several times this past week for the rental we took today and several times it said "no cars available at this location" We thought it was a fluke and then the rates that did come up later were horrible. That's why- their system is all screwed up and they are renting cars they do not have. I would wait a while and see.

Car rentals are just going up some due to the increase in travel overall. What is happening at National is unexcuseable however.

I was at MCO this weekend to see my dad and the Thrifty guy tried to "steal" me from the Hertz bus. (We were just kidding while we waited on the bus. this is the first and only time I waited on a Hertz bus about 5 min.) I told him it would be hard to beat my Hertz rate "FREE!" and he said all Thrifty had left was mini vans and the walk up rate was $129 a day. He said that they had been booked for months for this weekend some convention and the golf tournament.
