Hi,

Booked 4 night for January and just looked into my favorite restaurant in the world Palo. Am i the only on that thinks that Platinum members are now getting screwed?

I used to be able to order multiple entrees and basically anything for 1 price. I am VERY unhappy about the prefix or individual pricing. Did Disney change this to all the ships or just the Wish?

Thanks....

Changed on all the ships. The Palo pricing change has been in place since at least the return to cruising post-Covid, so it is not that new. The presso fizzo (prix fixe in French) pricing or platinum/pearl credit was originally $45, now it’s $50. Platinum can order the $50 presso fizzo menu or apply the $50 towards an a la carte order. An 18% autogratuity will be added to any a la carte items as well as any alcohol. The a la carte choices on the Palo Steakhouse menu on the Wish are somewhat more extensive in the steak area than what is available in Palo on the other ships, but otherwise quite similar.

At brunch I feel like I ordered a bunch of different stuff.

At dinner I was actually fine with the change. I was still completely stuffed at the end.

It wasn't that I won't be full, it was nice to try a couple of entrees, not finish them, I guess there was a lot of waste. Also LOVED the souffle with panna cotta...

People were pretty upset about it when the change happened, IIRC. I still don't love it for the same reason -- it was nice to be able to try a couple things. But like all things, enough time passes and people get used to it. I think most of us have just made our peace at this point (even if that means just choosing to do brunch).

The irony is most of the servers we've talked to are glad they did away with the buffet. They can spend more time with the guests.

Initially, our reaction was here’s an example of cutting back.

After many (free) visits to Palo, I have sampled enough of the dinner menu that I have a fairly standard meal. And mix it up every now and then. I would sometimes get an extra item when it was unlimited, but not routinely.

But it is complimentary for us Platinum guests. (Not saying anything you don’t know.). Just emphasis for why I am not upset. If I was paying for this, I might not be so understanding.

As others figured out, if you want an all you can eat free meal, the Bruch kept that feature.

I still figure DCL would be happy if Platinum+ would be disgruntled and let paying guests dine here. New cruisers wouldn’t realize they were missing out on more food.

I’m exactly the same. I pretty much order the same meal now as I would order if it was still unlimited. I wish they would offer half portions of pasta still, and the antipasti tray was still complementary, but really those are two minor things and I’m still happy to go and use my credit every cruise.

I really don’t think brunch is as good without the buffet or as good quality food as dinner.

The antipasti cart was a touch that made the experience unique. And I liked picking the specific items I wanted, not wasting others. Removing that knocked the experience down a notch.

I could use a half portion of one of the pastas with my steak in the new set-up. It is an Italian restaurant, after all; pasta is a course.

I agree. I like specific items from the antipasti, but the rest would be wasted on me. I might ask my server next time if I can pick and choose the items I want.

I'm more torqued out about the fact that it's largely now a steakhouse and they've reduced a lot of Italian food items. I can get a good steak in a lot of places at home. There are some okay Italian food places at home, too, but very pedestrian offerings. I enjoyed having some items out of the ordinary run of what I can get at home. I loved the gorgonzola gnocchi they used to have and the lamb (and I don't actually like lamb in general). That said, we did Palo on our last cruise, and I have to say it was a really delicious steak with a really nice peppercorn sauce. Our server recommended not doing the prix fixe because it's four courses and is a lot of food. I had no intention of doing it anyway (I wasn't thrilled with some of the options), so both DH and I ordered an appetizer, entree (with sides) and dessert. It was essentially the same price - maybe a couple of dollars more for my meal and less for DH just because of what we ordered so it balanced out. I would not have wanted more food. I was barely able to finish my souffle.

I liked the antipasti cart, and I think it kind of sucks that you have to pay for it now. I also only selected a few items from that cart but I will also say that it made it very difficult to finish my meal. If I'd had antipasti last time - even if just a small selection, I would have had to eliminate at least one side with the entree.

I'd still prefer a better class of Italian fare than a boring old steakhouse but at least they do it well. I've been pretty happy to skip it for a couple of cruises since they changed, but DH doesn't like Worlds of Marvel, so it's Palo for us on that night on the upcoming cruise.

I agree the antipasti cart really set the tone for the experience. It’s unfortunate they didn’t keep that.

Only Palo on the Wish has the steakhouse menu, and it still includes the rack of lamb as an a la carte offering, along with osso buco, the very popular filet of sole served tableside, a gnocchi dish, and many other traditional Italian specialities. There have been some changes in the specifics, like the change in sauce for the gnocchi, but otherwise the entree choices are as extensive as before, along with the added steak choices on the Wish. I agree that the change in the antipasti serving from select your own from the cart to an a la carte option is a major loss. On the other four ships, where it is still just billed as Palo rather than Palo Steakhouse, the menu has fewer a la carte steak options, but is otherwise much the same as that on the Wish.

Easy fix, if you don't like it don't eat there.

So not this cruise, but the next, I will be Platinum and finally able to enjoy a perk. Gold Members were able to go to the special meeting. They had for Gold and above on all sailings, but that one left just as I turned Gold for 7 day sailings and went to 8 and up only.
Love the original buffet sad that it’s gone now. Didn’t like any of the entrées for brunch would I have enough to eat available if I didn’t order an entrée lunch? My problem is primarily dietary restrictions. I can’t have onions. I think that only leaves me a chicken thing that I can have.
So my question is if I stay within the brunch rules, what could I have?
