Seems to be a debate on if you can or not. Might be according to each ships rules. But I have left dinner and been able to take things with me sometimes. Not sure if I have taken things from Palo or not.
We had a server insist we take some leftovers with us a couple cruises ago, Nov 2022. Actually, we didn't take it, he had it wrapped up and sent to our room for us. That was the first time we'd ever got leftovers

I'd think it would depend on WHAT it is. If it's something that would require re-heating that would be tough because where are you going to be able to reheat? Pizza I could see allowing out since lots of people eat cold pizza. But other things that aren't safe unless heated to a certain temp? That's a big issue.
