Not a stellar weekend...

Actually, it was just early Saturday morning that sucked. My youngest boy and I fell asleep in the living room at 11 or so Friday evening. At 1:30 am, one of our dogs let out a yowl that woke everyone up. He was laying right by my son, but couldn't move. He wouldn't get up, wouldn't look at anyone, would just lay there and whimper. Everyone got up and off to the vet we went at 2 am.

We got there and found out that he had total kidney failure. Nothing they could do. We knew his kidney levels were elevated in January, but nothing in the danger zone. Seems that it got worse in a hurry. He never acted sick until Saturday morning. At 3 am, we made the decision to put him down. Sad start to our weekend.

So, we had to say goodbye to our 9 year old plott hound, Lenny. We were blindsided because we're preparing to say goodbye to our lab/boxer, Katie, who has Cancer. She has about 6 months left from what I understand.

We will potentially go from 3 dogs to 1 in a half of a year. :(

Goodbye Lenny. I REALLY miss tripping over you if I turn around too quickly.

I'm very, very sorry...losing a pet is just awful, let alone two so close together!

Is there anything worse than putting a pet to sleep? I've had to do it twice and it was awful both times in spite of the fact that each time it was the best decision. I am sorry about your loss:hug:

aw geez, I am so sorry. Never , ever easy. Maybe you can find some solace that you and your son were with him on the floor that night, he had you guys there with him.

I am so sorry for your loss. May the memories of your sweet pup comfort you. I went through the same thing with my almost 11 year old boy late last year. We knew his levels were elevated in June of 2010, he got so, so sick towards the end of November, that the entire of month of December was a downard spiral and we ended up putting him to sleep on Dec 30. If I could do it over I would have put him to sleep peacefully in November so he wouldn't have had to suffer like he did. Take comfort in knowing your boy didn't have to have suffer. :grouphug:

Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Awww, RIP Lenny. So sorry you had to lose him--he's adorable.
