I concur totally. What you need to realize is that the number 1 reason
DCL always has a dress-up night is so they can sell lots and lots of those formal portraits! Other than that really don't care what you wear as long as it meets the minimum dining room requirements. Black slacks and a few dressy tops are the full extent of my formal wardrobe. High heels are a thing of the past for me.....and I'm not even sure if I still own a pair of panty hose! Go with what you're comfortable wearing and are are willing to haul in your luggage. I can't speak for other cruise lines, but no one on the Magic will make you feel like you're out of place.
