Northern Sights and Mickey's MAGICal Delights-1st Baltic Cruise-June 12,2010-Pt 2

Did we ever decide if we were meeting for dinner in Dover on the 11th?

I inquired with Cullin's Yard and they can hold our group. I told them about 15 to 20 people for 7 pm. I was going to let them know for sure around June 1. Hope this is good for everyone. Let me know if you are planning to attend.

I think MJGirl was making the plans. PM her with how many are in your group. We were going to meet for dinner but found out that our train doesn't arrive in Dover until 8:30pm. But we sure will stop by the place and see if anyone is still hanging out!

We are also thinking of doing Stockholm on our own. My DH isn't sure he wants to do that; he's worried about the language barrier, converting money, transportation, etc. I am trying to convince him that it will be like the Amazing Race for a day.

We are taking a tour in the morning - the palace and waterways one - and then wandering around on our own. I've never been to Stockholm but my sister in law has and she doesn't speak a word of swedish, so I figure if she can do it so can we:rotfl: I would like to let my husband go see Vasa which is what his father told him to do but not sure how long that will take or how far away we are from it. What are you planning on seeing?

Who's in charge of the shirts on Cafe Press? Sorry I can't remember. Anyway I was wondering if a kids sweatshirt can be added and if the design could be made bigger?

I checked with DCL and they will be offering currency exchange on the boat for the port we are at. The rate may not be as good as you may find in the country but the convenience makes it worth it for me. On our Med cruise in 2007 we had problems with flights and didn't get on the boat until the first port of call and the next day we did Pompeii and didn't get around to exchanging money before we left. What a mistake! We took a couple of bottles of water with us but we used it up. Later at the ruins we were so hot and thristy and had no money to buy water (they did not take US dollars or credit cards at the small store there). Our tour guide took pity on us and gave me 2 euro and I bought 2 bottles of water that we split amongst the 6 of us. I didn't make that mistake again.

That's great!:yay: I was worried about having to carry around and keep track of all the different currencies. I'm with you, I'm willing to pay extra for the convenience. Do you think that is something DCL learned while doing the Med? It will be interesting to see what else they learned. We did the Barcelona to Florida cruise and was amused to find out that the ship had run out of certain food items and were substituting them with some European foods. The Wonder had to leave a ton of Mickey Ice Cream bars for us at Castaway Cay because we didn't have any of those either!

How can I find out more about the shirts......did I miss this conversation a while back?

WeLoveABD,

I think the Magic is docking at Frihamnen in Stockholm. You would need to take bus #76 to get to the Vasa Museum. The stop is Djurgardsbron and then you walk over the bridge to the museum. Lucky you got the morning excursions - they weren't available when I booked! So we are going to buy the Stockholm Card and do many of your things on our own!

gydell,
Sorry I forgot to answer earlier - we are from Alpharetta. What about you?

Thanks Traveling Tink! We were originally going to do the PM tour of Vasa and try to do the old town area on our own, but I like having the tour first, so we opted for Disney to take us around Old Town etc and then try to get across the bay to Vasa. We like the HOHO buses (used them in other cities--and I always recommend it to visitors to our City, San Diego)--but for various reasons we decided to do at least one tour with Disney and then do some of the town on our own in Copenhagen, Stockholm and Oslo. (Tivoli was a big must see for me, so I was hooked with Disney's ability to get us in early--so that eliminated what looked like a good HOHO system there, as it wouldn't be worthwhile for 1/2 day). A great adventure ahead!

So sorry to butt in on your thread, I was originally booked on this cruise awhile ago, but went in 2009 through Princess instead. I still check to see how everyone is doing every once in awhile.

Seeing the Vasa and Skansen are super easy from the port because there is a water taxi/shuttle that left right near where we docked...just a short walk in fact. It made stops at the Vasa (Skansen was just down the road a bit) and went over and stopped in 2 stops at the Old town/Palace area. They even sold tickets right at the boat before you got in. There was a ticket seller right there.
The Vasa is awesome! We did not have time to go to the Skansen, because we spent so much time at the Vasa, but I wish we did. :(
We did everything in these cities (except for Russia) on our own and saved a ton and saw a ton.

Thanks--and do butt in again! This is very helpful--getting the details down is fun and all, but a little exhausting as well. We'll have 4 hours or so to boat over to Vasa, and if time run around in Skansen before boating back. Do-able?

I can't decide which t-shirt I want/need:confused3 Well I want them all now I hafta figure out which one I really need :rotfl: Has anyone gotten anything from them before? Do the sizes run small or are they pretty accurate?

Thanks,
Marianne

We ended running out of time. BUT that is because we chose to go and see the changing of the guard at the palace. To me, that was a total waste of time unless you are there super early. We THOUGHT we had good spots, but ended up hardly seeing anything because we were over on the side...we had no idea where the festivities took place. I think if we hadn't have wasted time doing this, we would have gotten in Skansen. :(

I think the Vasa exhibit can be as long or as short as you want it to be. There are so many things to read and exhibits there to see, from models of how they brought the ship up, to exhibits of what the ship was really painted like (very vibrant!). I liked reading all about it, so it took us a little longer...probably 2 hours or so? I think if you cut down the time you are at both it is doable... but I think Skansen is pretty large. Remember it also takes a bit of time to go to the different shuttle stops. Depending on what the rotation is, and having to maybe go to other stops first, it might be awhile. I think I remember it reversing the order in the afternoon.

I LOVE the open air museums. They have one in Oslo that was probably my favorite part of the whole trip. It was a open air folk museum with the big authentic Stave church! Awesome.

Connie are you going to dinner on the 11th?

Probably. But our plans are not set. We might be in Canterbury that day, so we might not be back in Dover in time for dinner. I'll know a little closer to the cruise.

Thanks! We are doing the "Viking Heritage" tour in Oslo that includes the open air museum--so I am very happy to hear about your experience there! We'll plan on Vasa, then Skansen only if there is time (and my family pulls me away from reading all of the displays at Vasa). Do you recall--can you use a credit card to purchase the boat taxi tickets?

Hi
Do you remember the name of the open air museum? We are doing Oslo on our own. Thanks!

Marianne, from experience, Cafepress is a good company, have purchased many things from them, however they do tend to run smaller in sizing.

Who's in charge of the shirts on Cafe Press? Sorry I can't remember. Anyway I was wondering if a kids sweatshirt can be added and if the design could be made bigger?

I added kids hoodies, sweatshirts and t-shirts. I also added a water bottle, as it is new to their stock. I will ask my daughter if she can make the logo bigger. Will let you know.

I can't decide which t-shirt I want/need:confused3 Well I want them all now I hafta figure out which one I really need :rotfl: Has anyone gotten anything from them before? Do the sizes run small or are they pretty accurate?

Thanks,
Marianne

I got the women's plus tshirt and it fit me well. Not sure about the smaller sizes though. Have to lose some weight for those to fit
