My 14 year old daughter has asked for a North Face for Christmas. She isn't a skier or outdoorsmen in any way, just wants one for the fashion of it (meaning the name). But there are so many styles! Where do you begin? What styles are popular with the kids? I see they are expensive but a good coat is worth it. I just want to be sure she gets a "cool" one, without totally spoiling the surprise of the gift and asking her outright which one to buy.

I was about 14 when I started asking my parents for North Face stuff too. Luckily their kids sizes run pretty big. I would almost say the kids large and women's adult xs over lap in size but the one difference is the sleeves are shorter on the kids. As far as styles, this is one of their best sellers:

This one is a light jacket that might be good:

North Face also has outlet stores that you might want to check out. Sometimes the outlet stores are a good deal and other times they just save you a few bucks.

The Denali is the most popular with teens around here. :thumbsup2

I don't know which model it is but Costco had a North Face jacket when I was in there on Wed. I believe it was $140 and came in nice colors.

the Denali is the popular one.

How big is your DD? Mine is 5'4" and about 110lbs I believe and fits a kids XL easily. It was much cheaper. :)

Another vote for the Denali. My daughter also wears the kids XL. Right now you can order from Macys using their code macysff and get 25% off.

Good luck!

I also agree that the Denali is the one all the kids want. A word of caution on going with the kids XL, the sleeves are way shorter and the body is shorter and wider. As an adult I can wear my daughter's old child XL, but the fit is not great in either of those areas. I would hate for you to save some money now, but your child only be able to wear it for one year if she grows.

My oldest son's is 5 years old and still going strong, my middle son's is 4, and my daughter's is 3years old as she moved up from the kids XL to the Adult M and I inherited her old kid's XL that is 6 years old. They do last.

My dd14 wanted one last year. She's about 5'8" and rail thin, so I ended up getting her a women's small. But yes, it is the Denali if it's for fashion purposes. Although, my dd walks to school and wears hers in even the coldest weather.

Burch Run has a Northface Outlet. Also, try Costco. I saw tons of them there. I think they were $129, but am not positive of that price.

You just made my dd15 very happy! Needed another gift, wanted it to be practical, and she's been wanting a denali for years now. Got her an adult small, $143!

You can get a percentage off at a dunham's store if you have blue cross/ blue shield. Just flash the card and they take off 10%. It worked when I purchased some under armor stuff.

OP here.

Thanks for all the input! My daughter is only 5 foot 1 and a little over a 100 lbs. She's tiny and staying that way. Her doctors said based on a recent Xray her growing is done. So a child's XL will probably work fine.

I think I will try the outlet in Birch Run. I've been wanting to make a trip out to Frankenmuth for some wine and a visit to Bronners for the holidays. I can get that all done at once. Great suggestions! Thank you!
