Nope, Not Gonna Sweat The Small Stuff....Well, Try Not To!

If I were you I would think about just going with your son in the future if your husband isn't interested. I feel bad for your husband that he had some tough things in his childhood. It makes his reaction more understandable. Maybe you could help him think of some things to look forward to on the trip? When we first went to Disney my husband didn't want to go and could not understand why I so desperately wanted to go. He made if very clear that he was sacrificing his vacation for me and our daughter. I got him interested in the trip by letting him plan all the restaurants, because he's someone who loves trying new foods. He picked lots of signature restaurants which I never would have picked, but it made him happy. (He ended up loving the trip and said it was one of the best vacations he'd ever been on!) Are there certain parts of the trip your husband would enjoy planning?

My ex-husband was sometimes a grump about Disney trips. The kids and I left him behind to sleep in the room and sit by the pool. When he started to complain, I would ask him not to ruin the trip for the rest of us. As long as I kept my expectations low, it worked.

OP, you are a wise woman to have had this talk and now understand your DH’s issues better. Even better, it sounds like he is willing to meet you halfway.

I have enjoyed many WDW trips with DH through the years and now he has just plain had enough of theme parks. Having watched him drag himself through the last couple of times, with no enthusiasm, I am very glad that he is staying home for the next one! He would love to be with our DD and her family for some FL time, but this trip will be short and WDW-intensive. He does not want to be alone at a resort all day and does not like to explore on his own. So, he can save the $ and look forward to spending a couple weeks elsewhere in FL next spring, where he can play tennis and golf with friends and I will be the one to happily stay home. He’s made that trip many times and really enjoys the break from the cold, with his kind of activities. He is actually very happy if I want to travel with others as our interests are poles apart.

Do you take turns with vacations so he gets his choices too? My husband hates cruises but agreed to go with me if we did his type of trip the following year

My ex would not even go to DL as we lived nearby . We were not allowed to spend that kind of money,

Nope, we have always took vacations as the family. He thinks vacations are a waste of money..so if in the future I decided to go on a vacay with just DS he would prolly never go anywhere.

Firstly, thank you so much for sharing your story. Its definitely tough to fully enjoy a Disney vacation if someone is turned off to the idea from the beginning. I struggle with a slightly different issue where my Dad cant' physically make it through a Disney trip with me even though I really want to share this love of mine with him. I feel like one thing about Disney that makes it really special is how diverse the experiences are that Disney can provide. If you like running from ride to ride and experiencing all those thrills, there's rides there for you. If you like a good meal, there are a ton of experiences there for you. If you like a good live performance, then there's a show for you. If you like relaxation and rejuvenation then there's plenty of quality resorts for you. I think that for your DH, it might be a matter of finding what it is that he enjoys most about time away from work. Whether its the calm of a resort or the thrill of an attraction, Disney has something to offer. There is so much more to Disney that what might appear at first glance. I hope you and the family have a great vacation together either way!
