We are died in the wool disney fans who have been pondering the DVC resale market.
I understand how points work on the DVC properties, BUT.....

I can't seem to find point values for on property but NOT DVC property vacations!!! We like to check out new hotels, experience the different themes etc. etc. so.....:thumbsup2

Where can I check out those kinda points?
Anyone use thier points to cruise or do Adventure by Dis??? How many points are we talking about there??:sad1:

We want to make an educated decision on how many points we need but don't seem to be able to get the info.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:confused3

Also, Is it common practice for the mouse to discount tix/annual passes for dvc members??? Is it still possible to use the on prop perks like Magical Express or to buy the Dining packages when using pts????:grouphug:

I need to know:bitelip:

You can use ME, and buy the dining plan while using points.

As for the points required to stay at other resorts, I'd call DVC and tell them you are interested in buying (even if you plan to purchase resale) and ask the guide that is assigned to you to send you a Dreams book, and a copy of "Portable Perks". Those two books will tell you everything you want to know about both the points required and what discounts DVC members get. (Yes, there is a discount on APs, but not MYW tix).

We had a our guide send us all this info, and still bought resale. Although we do plan on doing a 25 pt. add-on in the future, and we'll go through DVC for that.

Lastly, the best use of DVC points is to stay at a DVC resort. I wouldn't purchase, resale or from DVC, if I didn't plan on using my points the majority of the time at a DVC. There are cheaper ways to cruise, see other non-DVC disney resorts, travel the world, etc. than to use DVC points.

I can help with a few of these things.

1. Staying in a non disney hotel through the RCI exchange will run you about 130-160 points for a one bedroom and about 200-270 for a two bedroom. At some of the locations you can also "buy" per night, I am not sure the exact point system off the top of my head but I can tell you we just did a Fri-Mon trip that was 96 points (I think it's less points for weeknights versus weekends).

Now you also have the option to do non-Disney hotels that are part of what they call the concierge collection (NY, Chicago, DC plus some others) they range anywhere from about 40-100 points per night depending on the season, the hotel and the room type

2. You can use points for Disney cruise line as well as adventures by Disney as well. For Disney Cruise line the points range anywhere from about 70-500 points per person again depending on the season, the room type and the length and destination of the cruise. For Adventures by Disney the points range from about 300-800 points per person depending on which adventure you choose (they are less points if you do early booking).

3. Regular tickets (magic your way, park hopper etc) are not discounted but they do offer discounts on annual passes. You can also get a slight discount at certain restaurants and into the waterparks and Disney Quest and (right now) to Cirque.

4. You can still do the dining plan (for the same price as if you weren't DVC) and you can still utilize the Magical Express. You just can't make a package with the "perks" (putt-putt coupon, free 5x7, Planet Hollywood coupon etc).

Hope that helps!!:goodvibes

In addition to what two pp's have stated, discount is $100 off adult AP and $125 off adult premium AP, there's a discount off children's too ( around $80 ) and id with member's address must be shown for all purchasers (except for kids if I'm not mistaken) and there is a limit of 6 or 8 discounted AP's per member household (sorry I don't remember exact number).

Just keep in mind that perks are not guaranteed and often change and can even disappear altogether so should not be a consideration when thinking about buying into DVC.

Best wishes on your planning :goodvibes

How many points to stay at non-DVC WDW resorts?

I'd like to stay at GF with my DH for our anniversary at some point, for instance. I did not see a point chart for that kind of stay in the Dreams book.

Do they keep raising the points for that kind of stay, like they do for the cruises?

Between approx 41 - 183 points per night depending upon accommodation type and travel date(M-F or Sat-Sun) and travel season and $95 non-DVC fee ( additional $95 fee will apply if reservation is changed). Yes usually increases.

As others here have said, DVC's value is using DVC points at DVC resort. An alternative if you're looking for a true deluxe experience would be to book at DVC resort and pay for daily housekeeping ( a studio villa would be $30 per day & 3 days would still be less than $95 exchange fee to book a non-DVC property ).

Best wishes on your planning :goodvibes
