Sorry for the newbie questions but....

Is there a list of what non-Disney owned properties you can use your DVC points at? Any way to find out how many points would be needed for a week stay in said hotels as well?

Thanks again,
Chris

That list can change a bit every year. It is always listed on the member's web site. Exchanges in the World Passport collection for a week each are:
low season..........1 bedroom 124 points..........2 bedroom 207 points
Mid season..........1 bedroom 144 points..........2 bedroom 252 points
high season.........1 bedroom 160 points..........2 bedroom 270 points

For the Concierge collection, the points vary by resort and are quite high, just as they are for the non DVC Disney hotels. This is because they have to negotiate annually with each resort and pay a fee to that resort. For example: The American Club can be anywhere from 33 points a night to 65 points a night. While Tanque Verde Ranch will be from 54 to 83 points a night. It's easy to see how point costly the Concierge collection can be when the whole week of exchange through the World passport collection is in some cases only twice what one day would be in the Concierge collection.

Just to elaborate on what Diane said:

7-days in an SSR 2-B/R June: 285 points.
7-days in an II exchange, mid season: 252 points.
7-days at Animal Kingdom Lodge, June, Regular Hotel room:285 points
7-days at AKL, highest Hotel room, Holiday season: 611 points
7-days at The American Club, standard room, June: 350 points
7-days at The American Club, Deluxe room, June: 420 points

Or another way, You can get a Deluxe hotel room at The American Club in June for 7-nights, or you can get 24 nights in June in an SSR Studio, or you can get 13-nights in a 1-B/R villa, or almost 10 nights in a 2-B/R villa, or just short of 5-nights in a luxurous 3-B/R Grand Villa.

Bottom line... you get killed when trying to use your DVC points outside of Disney owned properties.

Once again, thanks for the helpful info.

Chris
