No Universal Planning DVD?

For years, Disney has been mailing-out to guests free vacation planning DVDs including a pocket guide. These are very useful. When I go to the Universal site, there is no such offer. They show videos on-line but not everybody has a PC and to get the maps, you must have a printer. I have no printer so my alternative is to visit a bookstore and purchase a book about Universal. Why can't they do what Disney has been doing all along?

Why does Universal have to do everything Disney does? :confused3

You don't have to plan a trip to Universal like Disney wants you to do for WDW.

I emailed them to request park maps and received a reply email with a confirmation # and then received the maps within a week. They were very quick. It's nice being able to see how the parks are set up before we go on our trip.

I wonder if there is anything on you tube? I've never looked, but everything about everything else is on there. :rotfl2:

Maybe try looking at some trip reports for info also.

The dvds do build anticipation though- wish there was something. Maybe they should just put something on their website that people can access without them having to mail out videos... that would be very 21st century and quite cost effective...

We used google earth to show it to our kiddos before our last trip. You can actually " walk" through large parts of the park. It was pretty cool and gave them a good idea of what it was like there.
You can find almost any ride on you tube as well.
I think these resources (plus these boards) are much more useful for planning than some promo DVD

many years back, they did issue the planning vhs that was issued to who ever wanted them.
still have mine somewhere hidding in my basement.

perhaps someone has posted these old vhs tapes on youtube?

there have been many changes since those tapes were issued, it only covered the studios.
some rides no longer exist in the studios.

i don't see it a problem that UO doesn't issue the dvd's.

their website is complete and updated.
all info can be obtained online at www.universalorlando.com

Is it just me (or my equipment)? The video quality from the downloads is very poor. It is pixelated, and seems to only be available in QuickTime format. I had to download QT just to play the saved files, and I was even more disappointed that the QT player doesn't seem to support full-screen playback. I have tried this on all of my computers, including one with a great AMD (AtI graphics) one-gig video card, lots of system memory and pretty zippy core-duo.

I wanted to show the wife different scenes of the hotels to help us choose which one to stay at, as well as info on the rides and attractions.

If they can't do better than this, I would like to be able to order a DVD from them instead.

Or, is there some other place to get better resolution planning videos that run in a player (such as Windows Media) and will support full-screen playback?

Today I plant to try and convert all of them (was it 8 I downloaded?) to a DVD-R playable format and see what I get. I suspect that the quality will not improve.

ETA - No improvement. Rats! Still just as pixelated as before. Not only that, my first attempt had the image forced into widescreen mode instead of fullscreen (4:3). There were 10 planning videos in all. Many of them, or many parts of them are the same.
