no trips home for a long time

Our last trip home was December 2002. Since then we managed to squeeze a 3 day NYE cruise in December 2003/January 2004 in order to burn some points and take a much needed (although short) break and at that point we DID go to the parks for one day, using up the last day of some parkhoppers. It was a really cheapie trip that we snuck in as we were in bigtime saving mode to buy a house in NY. When we bought into DVC we owned a house in TX but between Enron and the housing price boom of the last several years, we really got slammed trying to buy something in NY.

Anyway, because of the purchase of the afore mentioned house, we had to cancel our upcoming October trip... there were just too many other things we wanted to put the money toward (we would have had to buy passes and then there is food etc, it just wasn't a good time to lay out that kind of cash).

When we heard about the panama canal cruise we decided to go for it and rented out all of our points to pay for it (I love DVC for that, our airfare and a few days at DL is also covered by what we got for renting our points), but now it's going to be sometime in 2006 (hopefully food and wine festival) before we make it back to WDW... 4 whole years before going "home". Now I'm not really complaining... the panama canal cruise is really a once in a lifetime thing for us and we WILL see DL while we are out in california but....

I'm a little homesick! Isn't that stupid? Does anyone else have a long time to wait before going "home" again?

Wow that is a long time away from home! But the cruise will be wonderful and an experience of a lifetime, enjoy it..

I do understand that missing home feeling, we were there Dec '03 and not due to go back until Sept '05. I could not take being away from home for so long and now I am going in 2 weeks for a long weekend. It has to be done on an budget and we have not park passes soooo we will get a MK fix by doing MNSSHP and PI.

That should do it until the budget is back in place for a longer trip next year:wave:

I know exactly what you mean.

Take a look at my signature. My last trip to WDW was 2001. We were supposed to go this year for Labor Day weekend, but Hurricane Frances cancelled those plans. Due to our DL & DCL Mexico cruise in 2005, we won't get back to WDW (or make our first trip home) until 2006! That's 5 years between visits. Drat Frances!

Counting down with you...

I did 4 days at WDW before a 3 day Wonder cruise in Feb. 4 days is not long enough at WDW and the weather was less than cooperative for both. So, I did not get a long enough fix. My DH is afraid that if we go too much, it will lose it's magic. I'm afraid it may be after 2006 when we go. I feel you rpain!

Ouch! We were there in January of this year and already I feel it's been too long. Were hoping to make in in Jan 2005 again but the way things are looking right now it may be longer. Sigh! We used to go every 3 or 4 years, but the problem is, it's never enough!

My family doesn't want to go to WDW next year. We'll be in Hilton Head this weekend. If we like it we may go back next summer. However, we may just bank the points, use them for a GV in summer 2006 and rent a condo in St Augustine next summer.

sometime in 2006 (hopefully food and wine festival) before we make it back to WDW... 4 whole years before going "home"
Ummmm.... You know that 6 - 4 = 2 years, right? Unless you posted in a timewarp from 2002. It's not much, but it might make the time pass a little easier. Besides, you'll have the wonderful cruise/DL trip to help pass the time.

We went in March 2004 and I don't expect that we'll be back until 2006 or 2007. Next year we have a 7-Day Mexican cruise on DCL + a week in DL, then a trip to Hawaii in Feb 2006. So I'm looking at late 2006 or early 2007 before we can go back to WDW. I console myself with the fact that we can go longer & stay in a 1-bedroom unit by waiting.

As it stands now, it looks like we won't be going "home" next summer as I had hoped too. Unlike the original poster though, we were just in WDW this past July. I'm so homesick now that the thought of not going to WDW until 2006 has me so bummed out.

But unfortunately, we have some major purchases to make between now and next summer. So we'll just hold off a year. Hummm....guess I should change my counter.

We went last December ('03) and DH said NO Trips in 2004. We are going to concentrate and put all efforts into paying off debt.

Fast forward to August '04. In an impromptu moment a friend and I decide to go and take her 2 kids and stay on my points.

NEVER AGAIN!!

The words moody and grouchy don't even come close!! This is going to sound SOOO SOOO DUMB but I've just about blocked that trip out of my mind. I told you it may sound dumb but it's true, it's like I didn't even go and I don't remember many details about it it was that bad!!!

I thought she'd really love it (since she knows how much I do) and she said she'd always wanted to go but it was MISERABLE!!

Anyway, I'm ready to go back NOW!! I'm more homesick than ever!! I don't know if it's because I'll be turning 30 (in 18 days) and life has turned out completely different than planned but I think I'm having a midlife crisis!!

I have BEGGED AND BEGGED DH to please take an(other) impromptu trip for my birthday!! I say SCREW the damn budget and mortgage the house if we have too!! I want to be in the happiest place on earth on my unhappiest day. Then at least turning 30 might not seem so bad!! Everyone needs a little spontaneity in life and we've become so rigid!!

I wish I could open an "April is turning 30 send her to WDW" fund but such is life.

Sorry I totally went off here. I told you, it's the mid-life crisis thing!! But, I feel your pain about wanting to go back.

No where else in the world can I find like minded people who get the whole "Disney Thing" than right here on the Dis.

thanks for listening
