No passports stuck in Canada. Help Please.

she posted in another online social media site. a lot of people were rooting for her there and here, and everyone is happy now. she is very relieved too, obviously. feeling pixie-dusted all around! :)
Did she say how she was able to get out of the airport? Did she contact DCL at all, and were they helpful? I know it's not DCL's responsibility to do anything but I'm just curious if they were able to help in any way or had any advice for her.

unclear. no additional details were provided but she did say she was happy so many people were sending her good thoughts and possible solutions.

now she's probably busy getting ready to go to the cruise terminal! :) :) :)

I was also anxious for the OP and kept back checking for updates. I saw the update last night and was so relieved for her!

In my experience (not just what I described there), airline and airport personnel just really do not care about lost items.

While I'm sure there are some airline employees who go above and beyond, sadly your experience is mine as well. My daughter left her very special blanket on the plane. NO ONE would want to steal a used, dirty blanket and no one with any decency would throw it away, yet despite dozens and dozens of calls and reports filed, they said it never turned up. Airport lost and found was equally unhelpful, and equally rude. There was little sleep in our household until I found a suitable replacement.

No, she hasn't posted any additional information but people on this other social media platform were asking the same thing. She's probably a little overwhelmed. I was inundated with notifications after wishing her well there yesterday. It will probably take her a couple days to read through and respond to all the questions both here and there. We may not hear from her until after she returns home and the dust settles.

Advice to OP once you are home from your trip let the proper authorities know your passport was out of your care for an extended period.

I agree! While it's probably unnecessary, that was a long time for your passport, along with all your personal information to be out of your control and in the hands of people you don't know. I'd probably be more concerned about traditional identity theft than I would the passport being duplicated and sold to someone trying to illegally enter the U.S., either way I would play it safe and make the call.

OP posted elsewhere:

UPDATES: Passports were just delivered to the hotel! They were found on another airline that we didn't even fly with???? Somebody turn them into Delta, most likely because our traveling documents with all our flight numbers were in there.

Where did you see this?

Off topic!

As of right now to fly out of my local airport I have to use my passport because of I.d won't be accepted anymore.

Our DLs are just fine *right now*. So you don't have to worry about it "as of right now". If anything does actually change in the future, then we'll deal with that. But right now you don't need that passport to fly domestically; you can use your normal DL. (we do) Heck, you still don't even need ID at all for domestic flights.

https://www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/identification

In the event you arrive at the airport without valid identification, because it is lost or at home, you may still be allowed to fly. The TSA officer may ask you to complete a form to include your name and current address, and may ask additional questions to confirm your identity. If your identity is confirmed, you will be allowed to enter the screening checkpoint. You may be subject to additional screening.

You will not be allowed to fly if your identity cannot be confirmed, you chose to not provide proper identification or you decline to cooperate with the identity verification process.

TSA recommends you to arrive at least two hours in advance of your flight time to allow ample time for security screening and boarding the aircraft.

My dad has no DL and no passport, and he flies domestically at least once a year. He gets there early, he's willing to chat (always always willing to chat), and he gets through just fine.

You're worrying right now over something that isn't worrisome right now. :)

So for us to go to Canada we have to show the enhanced drivers license or passport. Also pretty soon it Will not be valid for air travel in the USA or over seas, so I have a passport.

All US citizens need to show an enhanced DL to get by land/sea to Canada; it's not just for WA residents. But not all states have the enhanced ID. No DL gets us on an international flight; for that you have to have passports and it's been that way for some years.

Interesting original post here 7/2 at 10:50 pm. This post - 7/2 at 10:51.

Sounds like she actually did have the binder when she got off the plane, but dropped it. And someone found it and turned it in at the nearest airline counter.

Glad she can make the cruise.

I don't see where it seems like she took it off the plane.

But it does seem that someone found it and just took it *somewhere* to drop it off with someone official.

The post that was made at 10:51 was just the lower portion. The first paragraph that started with the "Update:" was not added until last night. I don't think she took the binder off the plane, unless she had posted a different update elsewhere. It sounds like she left it in the back seat pocket and it somehow was turned in to a different airline. Either way, thank goodness she's got it now and they can board the ship! I can't imagine missing out on an Alaskan cruise due to a lost passport at the last minute like that.

From the Canadian Govt website:
http://www.cbsa.gc.ca/travel-voyage/td-dv-eng.html

Visitors to Canada
Identification requirements for United States citizens and permanent residents
If you are a U.S. citizen, ensure you carry proof of citizenship such as a passport, birth certificate, a certificate of citizenship or naturalization, or a Certificate of Indian Status along with photo identification. If you are a U.S. permanent resident, ensure you carry proof of your status such as a U.S. Permanent Resident Card.

Whether you're entering by air, land or water, we recommend you carry a valid passport for all travel abroad, including visits to Canada from the U.S. A passport may be required by your airline or alternative transportation authority, as it is the only universally-accepted identification document.

Citizens of the U.S. who are members of the NEXUS program may present their membership card to the CBSA as proof of identification and as a document that denotes citizenship, when arriving by air, land, or marine modes.

This was from the Canadian government website. It clearly states that, while a passport is recommended, it's not required. Only proof of residency, such as a NEXUS card or birth certificate is necessary. However, I believe a passport is required to return to the U.S.

When the 'rules' changed about 10 years ago, it was because the U.S. began requiring passports to enter. Canada never required passports from U.S. residents, but because a U.S. resident may not be able to return to the U.S. without a passport, it becomes something they want people to have. They want to make sure non-residents are going to leave when they say they will.

So the OP may have had a NEXUS card with her, particularly given her situation.

Funny she didn't post back here.
I would imagine because that Big Social Media site is much more user-friendly, given that there's an app you can use instead of having to squint at a mobile facsimile of the DIS site. The DIS mobile page is a pain to use. That BSM is also a more immediate, direct way to communicate since you get notifications on your phone immediately after someone replies.
