No more Mickey Bars

Oh how I will miss photo ops like this one if they don't have the Mickey bars on our May trip. My granddaughter will be so disappointed!!!

I haven't read through the whole thread but we were on the 2/19 Dream and Mickey Bars were on every kids menu for dessert. My daughter enjoyed them and I even ordered one for myself from room service.

Does anyone know if the new ice cream sandwiches are gluten free? The beauty of the mickey ice cream bar, besides the fact that they are delicious, is that they are gluten free. There are lots of adults and children limited with their menu and being able to have these has been a major plus. We recently had to put my son on a wheat free diet and while it's pretty manageable at home I'm worried on the ship there won't be enough for him to eat. My one item I was planning on being a go-to treat was the mickey ice cream bar.

Have you looked on the Parks board to see if anyone has asked this question over there? Being the 'sandwich' part is basically a cookie I wouldn't think they are gluten free.

Your son won't go hungry being GF on the ship. We sailed with a friend who's DD is GF and she has plenty to eat and was given a basket of GF rolls every night at dinner. They preordered her dinner each night for the next night. Just let DCL know that he's GF and he will be taken care of.

Hopefully this is a temporary situation and they will be back on the ships soon.

The sandwiches are not gluten free. When I first heard of the Mickey Bars being gone I thought, what about the gluten free kids? Yes, somebody already answered, well there is plain ice cream. Well, being gluten free I do get tired of those answers. Children want to fit in, they feel like the odd person in the crowd, Disney needs to rethink this. I can't count the times my husband and I have been places and people ask me, why haven't you tried such and such. I can't eat gluten. Then the next question is, so what happens. Really, do we need to go there? People who are gluten intollerent have to stay away from gluten period. I don't care if it tastes great, it is easy to avoid because it makes me sick.

My husband will ask why we can't go to some restaurant, well, I am tired of eating a salad. Now I do avoid the Mickey Ice cream bars, they are loaded with calories but for kids, they are a treat and for gluten free kids, they are a chance to eat something not be asked, why aren't you eating with us. They feel normal. they aren't standing out as the oddball who won't eat the ice cream sandwich.

I really think the change is due to the new healthy diet regulations Disney wants to follow. Two years ago a CM was telling me all of the food changes were due to Disney wanting to rid transfats from their foods. This CM did work behind the scenes and she was giving me actual truth not rumours. I was the one who brought up the topic as to why all of the changes lately.

The main food they were having problems with was the Mickey Bars by Dove. They were loaded with transfats. Probably that is the real reason for the plug on the bars. Sad, sometimes treats are just that, a treat. If one doesn't eat one all the time they are fine but since Disney doesn't want transfats, well, good bye Mickey Bars. I do remember my husband telling her how that would be terrible if they did that because the bar was his favorite Disney treat. Well sounds like the Disney food police won. I feel for the kids who just want to fit in, this is a big deal for the gluten free kids, the ice cream sandwich is off limits. Kathy

When we cruised on the Wonder last year, the Mickey Bars were my daughter's favorite dessert. We will be cruising again on April 29th, I hope the Mickey Bars are back by then

Just another regularly available treat for most.
A reason to piss and whine about penny pinching for some, without knowing why they are not available.

Maybe there is a manufacturing problem?
It's a ice cream chocolate bar at the end of the day, and sympathy to those that are gluten intolerant, but it's only a ice cream desert and email DCL for an answer.

When I said there was regular ice cream, I should have elaborated. They had ice cream sundaes (parfait style glasses with ice cream, sauce, sprinkles etc.) at just about every dinner and I'm sure, if it wasn't on the menu, you could ask for it. At the Parrot's Cay lunch buffets, they had a server scooping Haagen Dazs ice cream into parfait type bowls. Guests could choose from a variety of sauces and toppings to make their sundae. They looked yummy and I'm sure they would make a child feel as if they "fit in."

I have no idea how his can spoil your cruise, now if you had to bee taken off of castaway cay by helicopter then that would ruin a vacation, but surely you can suffer threw a cruise with out a mickey bar?

Agreed!

If a Mickey Bar not being available is enough to cancel a cruise or have second thought's about it, then being on a cruise isn't the right vacation.

Disappointment happens all the time in life, and we all just have to suck it up and deal with it.
If a Mickey Bar is a make or break deal for you, email DCL and demand the return of them.

An 11 page thread on here about them is honestly laughable.

3. It's a smooth, creamy vanilla ice cream
4. You could only get it in the parks so it became a vacation treat

It's sort of tradition... if you've been on the ships before and you ordered them... It's like those people who order the milk and cookies from room service... sure you can get those at home... but it's special on the ships!!

Regular ice cream is always available.

Believe it or not, ice cream is not always gluten free. Naturally, it is, but some companies add wheat to ice cream. The Mickey bars are known to be gluten free and that's a sure thing, safe food for Celiacs and those with gluten-tolerance issues to turn to.

Plus, correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't remember ice cream being on the room service menu. So while it's available in the restaurants and up on deck, the Mickey bars being part of room service was a perk for those who can't eat the other desserts on the room service menu.
