No more Mickey Bars

I just have one question why are Mickey Bars so important to people? What exactly is the draw to them isn't it just vanilla ice cream with chocolate?
Yup, just vanilla ice cream with chocolate. Plus pixie dust.

They are very delicious.

For me, the draw is being able to get something that normally costs $4 each for free. It's a feeling that I shouldn't be getting such an awesome benefit, but I am. It's like I'm cheating.

That, and they are absolutely delicious. The "chocolatey coating" is very rich and creamy, and so is the ice cream. Sure, I could go to Dairy Queen and get a Dilly Bar, but they don't even come close to comparing.

This thread wouldn't be so alive if they were ordinary ice cream bars with a chocolate coating, that's for sure.

For the people that say it will make or break their vacation, I personally think it's a bit silly, but some people are that into it, I guess. Who are we to tell them how to spend their vacations? :confused3

I always thought this was a childs dessert until my 2 night cruise last year. Waiter brougth out an extra for my mom and she passed it around so to all the adults and we fell in love with them!

They are actually quite decadent like a Dove or Haagen Daaz bar. Super thick rich dark chocolate coating and smooth creamy vanilla inside. Not your average chocolate coated bar.

Yummms...you just reminded me I have drumsticks downstairs...with nuts! My kids don't like nuts, so they don't eat them! Woo Hoo!
LOL...the best treats to keep at home are the ones the kids don't like! :rotfl:

Being Gluten free aside,

Just another regularly available treat for most.
A reason to piss and whine about penny pinching for some, without knowing why they are not available.

Maybe there is a manufacturing problem?
It's a ice cream chocolate bar at the end of the day, and sympathy to those that are gluten intolerant, but it's only a ice cream desert and email DCL for an answer.

Don't let it spoil the cruise!

Ex Techie :)

I'm with ya! Now where is that "unsubscribe" button.....off I go to enjoy planning a cruise with our without Mickey bars.

Let's see:
  1. It's Mickey! :woohoo:
  2. It's a rich chocolate shell
  3. It's a smooth, creamy vanilla ice cream
  4. You could only get it in the parks so it became a vacation treat :yay:
  5. oh... and it's MICKEY!!!!! :cheer2:

I think that sums it up....

Again I just don't get how it's such an important thing, I've never had one and don't really care to try one.

If something like this can spoil your cruise then you shouldn't be cruising. Now if you had to bee taken off of castaway cay by helicopter then that would ruin a vacation, but surely you can suffer threw a cruise with out a mickey bar?

When we asked our head waiter about the Mickey Bars, he made reference to the time when they took the cookies and creme ice cream off of Castaway Cay. He said that there was such an uproar that they brought it back.

Here is what my concierge said about the Mickey Bars on our Fantasy Cruise April 21, 2012:
2/28/12
Hello
We are happy to assist and answer your concerns.
As of now the Mickey Ice Cream have been taken off of the ships.
They are being replaced with Mickey Ice Cream sandwiches until about April from the information we have as of now.
Unfortunately we are unsure of what would be going on past that date.
Should you have any further questions or concerns, please let us know.
We look forward to sailing with you!
Have a Magical day!

Woo Hoo :rotfl: we sail in May so maybe they'll be back by then, at least I hope so. I was looking forward to having one since the last time I had a Mickey Bar I was about 12.

Really? It's back? :banana::banana::banana::banana:

If true, I know 4 in my house that will be VERY HAPPY!

thanks...

I didn't say it was an important thing... I was just extolling it's virtues. It is something my kids look forward to.... Not because they can only get it there, but because they can get it there at all.

It is a simple treat but customers do have a right to voice their displeasure if something is not right. This is especially true of the higher cost of DCL.

On a more postive note I have been around manufactuing quite a bit. Interruptions in manufacturing supply, especiall foodstuffs, do happen rather frequently. With food inspectors and the FDA all over them it can take time to get not only pumping again but getting the supply stream back in order. I'd take Disney at their word first but be sure to let them know we'd much happier campers when the bars are back.

OMG!!!! Did they bring back the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice cream at Castaway Cay? I thought it was gone forever. Can someone confirm this?

Melissa R is correct. Even on the ship you need to ask what are the exact ingedients in the ice cream. I have cruised DCL many times, if the person comes back with we can't answer ask for the head chef. We took the tour where we went down with then head chef Edward. We saw where the food was stored. We even saw the boards with the Magic's menues for her Atlantic crossing. They have access to what is in the premade products they are serving. Chef Edward was awesome!

Here is another issue with children. You ordered a Mickey Bar and your gluten free child is served an ice cream sandwich. Your head is turned and the child starts eating the treat. Yes, it could happen. Children have to depend on adults surrounding them when they have dietary special needs. As adults we have the will power to stay away from foods that make us sick or we should have it. Children need extra help.

For those who ignore the gluten free diet when they know their bodies are allergic to the gluten protein and they have no way of digesting it they are destroying their intestinal track. My doctor told me the risk of colon cancer is greater, and lacking proper nutrition because the body expells the food because the walls of the intestines are destroyed. That is why this gluten free diet has to be followed if one is allergic to the gluten protein. Children and adults who are allergic have to be careful what they it
eat.

So now you understand why gluten free is important. I would hope Disney makes sure they tell people they are getting an ice cream sandwich ahead of time so it can be caught before the child is served something they should not eat. Kathy

I don't know. My info came from a head server (dining room manager or whatever they are called.... the guys in the white jackets). It was while we were on the Wonder in the MR so I don't know that he has first hand knowledge. :confused3

We were there in Jan. and there was no cookie and cream ice cream. They said it clogged the machines too much . We only had the same choices as the ship. :confused3

My husband will miss the Mickey bars. That is what he had every night for dessert , he doesnt' like all the fancy stuff.

Did you have tropical flavors on the ship? We had chocolate and vanilla as well as mango, strawberry and banana. There may have been other flavors as well.

Need any help?

It is interesting how people have an affinity for certain things in life ... IMHO, I think it's the little things that can make a holiday special ... as can be noted from some of the above posts from others here on this board ...

Yes, one can get an icecream bar (i.e. revels or revellos) from the freezer of your local corner grocery store ... but it's like saying why pay extra to get icecream from DQ or Marble Slab ... isn't icecream just icecream ...

Or it's like saying waffles are just waffles ... true ... but come on ... how can you resist this ...
Mickey-Waffle.png

It's funny how each person is different ...
  • can you imagine the uproar from some people if they could no longer get all-you-can-eat shrimp at the buffet ...
  • or for the wine connoiseurs - isn't wine in a box just as good as the fancy schmancy one in a bottle ...
  • a coffee is just a coffee isn't it ...
  • or for those who love a cool draught, isn't a beer just a beer ... and so on ... and so on ...

Sorry, but for me, I'm checking my adulthood at the door when we board the Fantasy this fall ... I guess it's the little kid in me ... give me a choice between a plain old revel ... or a Mickey Bar ... what do you think I will go for ...

And on that note ...

Did you really mean to say "..must have been a bad dream" considering where it happened? :rotfl2:

... when there is the possibility of no Mickey Bars ???
