No more grape pizza!

I'm just off the fantasy this morning and can confirm the new menu and absence of our favorite flatbread. We had brunch at Palo twice during the week and made a big deal about missing the pizza both times. Our server did not offer to have it made and neither did the chef when he stopped by to ask how everything was. We even pulled some grapes, Gorgonzola, and balsamic off the buffet and joked with the server that he could bring us a plain flatbread to construct the pizza ourselves. It didn't get us anywhere.... I didn't think to note it on the comment card. Maybe I'll send an email.

Good idea.

Come to think of it, didn't Palo remove the option for gorgonzola sauce on the Palo beef tenderloin too!?

No, the option is still there. Now you can get either a gorgonzola sauce OR another sauce. The option for gorgonzola sauce was on the dinner menu when we were on the 8/8 sailing of the Wonder (DH was actually pretty excited because he didn't like that gorgonzola sauce but he noted that it was still an option).

And on the Fantasy, does a server "serve you" at the buffet, or can you serve yourself?

When we did brunch on the Fantasy, they served us.

But, if it's an issue with you, it's entirely OK to just say "I'd rather serve myself". Since subsequent visits to the buffet you serve yourself, it's do-able. If the reason for the "help" with service is due to a Noro (or other contagious illness) issue, then you will not be allowed to serve yourself.

On the 8/20 Fantasy sailing they served us. I had 2 complaints of the whole cruise and this was one of them. ;) I absolutely despise this! Once before I was able to decline it politely but this time for some reason, I wasn't able to make it work.

Something else new this time was besides our server serving the first piece of pizza (which was never an issue for me), as soon as I finished 1 piece she was there asking what kind I wanted next (we had half and half). She did this after every piece! I felt so self conscious like I was being watched and could not relax at all. I even said to DH if the food wasn't so good I probably would not go back for these reasons. It really put a damper on the experience for me. Attentive service is great but this was just annoying!

On every Fantasy sailing after 2012, they have "served us." at Palo Brunch.

It's not that big of deal. IMO

In fact, if you sleep on it, and actually assess the consequences, you may actually understand the theory behind the dcl decisions.

I kinda like the "what may I serve you?" feeling. And they can answer questions you may have about the various items as they serve them up.

I mean, if I'm paying for a "fancy experience" why not enjoy it? It's not like they're judging what you want to eat.

the earthquake has decimated several of the areas where certain cheeses are made. because they are cured in caves. So get ready for shortages of many cheeses like parmesano aregiano and mozzarella and gorgonzola. but if you really miss the pizza or the strawberry soup, Inundate the cruiseline and make note of it onboard. When they changed the room service menu, there was such a backlash Disney brought back the old menu. Unlike other departments, disney cruiseline listens to it's customers mainly because most are repeat cruisers and they want to keep you coming back. also they read your comments on disboards as well. The last cruise I took last january, the captain told me that other than passenger comments, Disboards is their second most read item. but the best thing to do seriously is fill out those comment cards onboard and flood the cruiseline with emails saying you want the items back.

Just off both the Fantasy and the Dream. We had brunch on both ships and both times we were allowed to serve ourselves. On the Fantasy they asked if we wanted assistance, we said no thanks. On the Dream they didn't even ask. We had the old brunch menu on the Dream but the new one on the Fantasy.

Nice jab PS. lol. touche'

I'm OK with a CM catered buffet. Less germs IMO. I feel that is the whole point. They learned that the Palo buffet aboard the big vessels increases illness. So they adjusted. I like the adjustment. Less contact, less germs, less illness.

If pax have a problem asking for what they want, then, lol ... Sail elsewhere.

I have gone back to the buffet line 10 - 20 times at Palo on the Fantasy many times. Without worries, regardless of who is in charge of plating.

No one is judging you. Eat all you want.

I wonder if this is a cost saving measure. Perhaps

Sounds like it. Pax induced paranoia and reluctance .....

Resist if at all possible, regardless.

JMO.

Interesting.

Thanks for posting, and the update.

So, it depends. ..... maybe.

Or everything is the way it was years ago. And nothing has changed. ;)

Really? I thought the epicentre was more the northern middle?

And most of the cheese production was either far north or south?

Isn't mozzarella a southern cheese and not matured/cured in caves?
Have you any evidence of an impending italian cheese shortage?

Oh this makes me so happy!! I might need to book a Palo dinner after knowing this haha.

Exactly!!

Oh, and hope that there isn't a Noro outbreak (I mean, I'd hope it anyway, but...) because Cabanas will go to them serving you. (Also, avoid HAL for other cruises because AT LEAST the first 48 hours there is no self-service on board - probably as a guard against people who might in fact be sick but lie on their health survey so as not to lose their money on the cruise. I say at least because in spite of there being zero Noro on my Alaska cruise on HAL, the buffet NEVER went self-service in spite of them removing all other safeguards.)

But yeah... The only person judging how much and/or what you eat is YOU.

Another benefit of being served at the buffet is peace of mind for folks with allergies. I have seen folks at other buffets who pick up a serving spoon from one dish and proceed to serve themselves from a range of dishes with that same spoon: which means none of these dishes are then safe for folks who have to be careful about cross-contamination.

Anyone with those sorts of issues probably just has to avoid buffets, or has to ask to be served "clean" food from the back. I bet it's nice to have the confidence to walk up to the buffet like anyone else and not be afraid of having an allergic reaction. :)

Edit: That wasn't really on thread, was it? Must say something on thread... um.... I like gorgonzola? :teeth:
