No more bringing home those towel animals

I can't imagine bringing the towels home with me...........we actually pack our own towels when we go

All I'm saying is that when you think of all the people that have used that towel before you.... I feel like I need to shower after toweling off after showers at hotels.... Leave the towels behind....

We were in Honolulu this past Fall. We stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. This is the hotel they are talking about in Hawaii. They used this chip for all of the beach towels they gave out. You had to give your key an they would swipe it and the towels. You would return the towels to a bin. I believe before they were washed, the were swiped again. They had VERY nice beach towels. I would never take one home, but we had not brought any from home. I really wanted to take some with us when went went to the North Shore and snorkeling. I did not though. There were lots of signs posted stating the towel policy and the chips imbedded in them. The staff also told you the policy each time we got towels.
That Hilton is HUGE. I am not surprised by that amount of towels being stolen in a month.

I think most pool towels are stolen to wrap up wet bathing suits of people checking out that day who use the pool before they go...:rolleyes1:rolleyes::littleangel:...or something like that.

That's what plastic bags are for & for dirty laundry. Trash bag for that stuff is part of our packing list. If one was forgotten, we'll use the plastic laundry / dry cleaning bag usually hanging in the closet of the hotel room.

I never knew so many towels were stolen. :scared1:

And yeah if I was going to steal one it would definitely not be from Disney. Their towels are horrible.

I'm waiting for the poll: Do you steal hotel towels?

Yes
No
Only at Disney
Other

LOL

Heeeey...you can't pin nothin' on me! Nothin'!!! Plus, those are usually used up by then...I know, I'm bad. But hey, they ARE crappy towels. Not the good ones.

My mom has several "animals" sitting on a shelf in her guest bathroom. Along with a rather large vase filled with mickey soaps.

Our Mousekeeper told us we could take the towel animals home. They are sitting on the piano staring at me right now ;)

On our first big trip we took the towel animals home. After trying to figure out what to DO with the things once I got them home, keep them as "animals" and clean/dust free--I decided they were much better left at the hotel.

Why would you want them? I don't want another darn stuffed animal in my house let alone a towel animal. They are cute and all and my kids enjoy them while we are there, but no thanks! Maybe this is just my spring cleaning mode talking.

We have a small duck. It's sitting on a shelf in DD's bathroom. I'm as tired of the stuffed animals as you are ;) but to me this isn't a stuffed animal, it's a WDW souvenir.

........of course.....just them SAYING.....that there is a RFD chip in the towels....would be a deterent.....without ever installing them.

Some of the resorts tell you to bring the towels from your room so i don't know how this would work with chips in them.

My daughters wanted to bring home the towel animals. I said no because i do not need another stuffed animal. One daughter listened and 1 snuck it into her carry on. Now it has fallen apart and we are stuck with a crappy quality towel that we will only use for a rag. Honestly i wouldn't care if they didn't do them.

Do people really take towel animals home? If so...why? 1) They're just towels and 2) They fall apart as soon as you move them.

I can see it now...bringing home 4 big towels and telling your friends, "This WAS a towel monkey from WDW!" :rotfl:

I have a little rabbit towel animal that our Mousekeeper told me to keep. The animals that don't fall apart and will stay together over time seem to be the ones that are made of little cheap washclothes, so the PP who said that the Mousekeepers buy their own washclothes by the gross is probably right.

To each his or her own. I'd rather have something made by my Mousekeeper to encourage tips sitting on the shelf in my closet than another $30 t-shirt, with profits going straight into Disney's corporate pocket, that I'll never wear except to clean my house. Maybe I should ask my Mousekeeper if she can make one of my old t-shirts into an animal. Then those t-shirts would actually serve a purpose.:rotfl:

Doesn't taking home a towel animal=stealing towels? I never knew people thought they were gifts from the hotel....:confused3

I can see how chips may be needed in a pool area where its hard to keep track of the towels. In many hotels the pool area is small enough that they can watch and make sure towels are left in the pool area when the guest is done. As for hotel rooms I've seen signs in washrooms saying something like We're glad you enjoy our towels. If you choose to take them with you a charge of $15 will be added to your room bill...or something like that anyways.
