No more bringing home those towel animals

In some cases, the towel animal has been secured with hot glue.


I find it funny that folks are up in arms to protest towel animal removal when folks have commented that the cast members provided permission to take them. Totally not the same as a reusable mug or "illegal" pool hopping where policies are clearly in place.

And yes we took one home and I accidentally washed it and a glued towel animal before the wash becomes just glued together wash cloths after it is washed. Maybe that is the new theft deterrent.

Exactly. Just went and took a picture of my son's towel basket. You can clearly see where they use hot glue for some of the pieces. My nieces had a snowman and a duck as theirs. They obviously do not live here, so no picture on hand.

Why do you keep refusing to accept the fact that many people have been told that it's OK to take them? Do you think we're all lying?

FTR, no, we didn't ask, our mousekeeper mentioned it when we passed her and I said how cute they were. And I see a huge difference between a little stuffed animal made out of worn out, extra washcloths and the curtains, but I guess YMMV on that.

I know after this discussion of possible curtain theft that I am tempted to take the sewing kit and make myself a lovely new dress to channel my inner Scarlet Ohara! It's what any good klepto would do right?...

When the curtains become hot glued towel animals that the mousekeepers verify you can take home, by all means Scarlet your heart out.

You would think that with all these alleged thefts, that Disney would have stopped making it so darn tempting to steal washcloths. (Or they would have hot glued them to the counter or something.)

I was telling my story about my kids keeping their animals and once I said that the maid said they could keep them....then it was turned into that I had asked to keep them. (which of course I hadn't) Of course that opened up the whole "I would never ask for a towel just like I wouldn't ask for the curtains." Will never understand the stretch from made-up washcloths to someone asking for a curtain? Some on here will literally fight a point to the edge of reason on these boards haha!

Just because an employee says it does not make it so. We have people come in to my job to collect junk or cans etc--we say "sure go ahead its fine" but management stand on that is very different! What do we care--we just say "go ahead"--doesn't make it right!

I never understood the need to take them home with you. Yes they are cute when you see them in the room but we have never wanted to bring them home with us.

I agree! They're cute, but honestly they get in the way of shelf/counter space. It used to be fun when there was one left in the room, now they're on the beds, on the mirror/counter when you walk in (DVC), on the bathroom counter... It's too much.

LOL--well if towel animals were going to allow someone to have a meal like the homeless people we let take cans for deposits I would feel fine with people stealing towels from disney.... I am all for bending rules for some reasons--just to have a towel sitting on my shelf isn't one of them...having food in someones stomach is one I am willing to bend for.

No. If you stay at CBR there are sometimes CM with tables set up in OPR. They are making the towel animals and handing them out. Not stealing in my book.

No it does not. Taking the hand towels off of the rack? yes. Taking little animals that have been given to you by the CM's is not stealing.

Okay, how about a manager? The manager of the Poly stopped by our room with the manager of mousekeeping to check on our stay. This was right after there were a series of complaints from guests concerning food trays left in hallways, dirty rooms, etc. We told them that our DGD loved the little animals left in the room and both told us to have her take them all with her as a memento of her trip. Every day the mousekeepr left more all in different poses with Kady's little toys and her doll. Now perhaps neither was empowered to make that decision but I rather doubt that. It was one heck of a marketing strategy, my DH had been in shock over the cost of rooms, even after having stayed at ALK CL but he was hooked after that. it was not the animals, it was not the little .50 gift. He already had been committed to spending a fortune on extras for our only DGD. No, he was impressed that the CM's would take time out of their day to leave surprises that would make a little girl's trip more magical. Disney magic, I guess. Now you can say we stole a few but I believe that just because YOU say it does not make it so. I am rather inclined to listen to the folks who are empowered to make those decisions.

Every time this comes up I wonder why folks find it okay to take upgrades at checkin if the CM offers one. Is it not stealing to take an expensive addition to a trip? Of course not..............it was something that a CM offered and would not have if it was not approved. Same thing with free desserts on birthdays, little pins for kids. Disney does a wonderful job of offering a little extra for people. Some folks would not touch a cupcake, others don't get upgrades, pins make some people smile and others walk away. Some folks like towel animals and for those it is that little extra that may bring them again. I believe that it is necessary to remove your own idea of what is an acceptable trinket for guests and rely on the Disney staff to understand what is appropriate and what is not. As for those little animals? My DGD loved seeing hers in teh bathroom for a while. And it was enough to encourage DH to tell us that kady should go to Disney every year and twice if possible. A commitment he has kept......and it only cost WDW one or two dollars in silly little washcloths.

Here are my little friends. They are put together with a lot of hot glue, and have never come apart. If you think I stole them even though the mousekeepers(three different ones on three different trips) told my son they were his to keep, feel free to alert the Disney towel animal police.

The article was talking about towels, not washcloths. The technology would cost a lot more than a washcloth and I am sure the mousekeepers would not tell people to take them if there was a rule against it. I do wish they sold them somewhere at WDW. There are certain ones I would buy to add to our little collection.

My experience has been that pool towels are thin, nasty, scratchy things. Can't think of why anyone would want them.

You are still assuming that the CMs are bending the rules, which isn't the case. But whatever...

We did the exact same thing! I would never have thought that it was OK to take them home. I guess if mousekeeping tells you to do so, its fine. Though I would think that they would be huge dust collectors and not so easy to wash.

Oh, my DD8 would absolutlely make a shrine of towel animals! She can make a shrine ou of anything remotely collectable!
