No more bringing home those towel animals

Even if a Mousekeeper told me to take it home, I would not...and I would still give her a hefty tip for the effort.

Doesn't taking home a towel animal=stealing towels? I never knew people thought they were gifts from the hotel....:confused3

I've never received a towel animal but here's a thought. If a guest doesn't take the towel animal wouldn't it just have to be thrown out? There's no way to launder a towel animal without destroying it. Would they reuse any sort of linen even a towel animal that hasn't been laundered? Its been on someones bed. Maybe a child would put it in his mouth. Skeeves me out a little to think of them reusing them.

The towels Disney uses aren't exactly luxurious. I can't see them using this technology. As for towel animals, I leave them in the room. I don't need more useless stuff in my house.

I never understood the need to take them home with you. Yes they are cute when you see them in the room but we have never wanted to bring them home with us.

Yes it does equal stealing towels. I guess some people think that if they stuff a towel bunny in their suitcase it's different than stuffing a folded towel in there :confused3

I would think they would unfold it, wash it, and make a new towel animal

I don't think it's stealing if someone tells me its okay to take them. That's about as much stealing as trick or treating, IMHO. Mine sit in a place on honor with my Disney picture frames and bobble heads. We have 2 and left the others behind for the next guest.

Mine were made out of thin washcloths and have stickers on them. I don't think they were the same type we used in the rooms.

Didn't read whole thread, but just wanted to chime in. First, the Disney towels are crap. Nothing plush about them.. not even at the Deluxes. Second, the towel animals are there for the guests to take if they want them. Little kids love them and they are also told that they are there to be taken by anyone that works at the hotels.

Ask any person at the hotel. They are for the guests to take home. It is not stealing. My son and nieces have one each that they have from 3 years ago. The little washcloth ones with the eyes and the stickers etc. in different shapes. The maid who made them told them that they were for them and not to forget them when we left. They sit on a shelf in the bathroom and it reminds the kids of Disney. We have never taken the rest home because we don't want them, but that is what they are for. The big Mickey heads with no stickers made out of the big towels would be pointless and would probably be considered taking something, but the washcloth towel animals are absolutely made for the little Disney guests to keep.

What a shame that something like that had to be put in place. Towel animals are cute and all but really? Stealing them? Childish.

ETA: I read the article this time. lol But I'll still stand my statement that 1) stealing towel animals is childish and 2) it is a shame that something like that had to be done at any hotel establishment.

I agree. I've never even thought of taking it home! I was really surprised when I started reading here and found out people did that!

Ding! We have a winner!

Yes, if you ask anyone at the hotel they will tell you it's ok to take it home and people do. I just don't understand why. :confused3

We have never taken on of them with us. What do you do with them at home? Make your bed and put them on it? Have a towel animal shrine?

We took pictures of the ones in our room so my kids would have the memory. I would never ask anyone to take one home anymore than I would ask to take home the bedspread or curtains because I wanted to remember my trip :confused3

So because it has stickers its okay to take? That makes absolutely zero sense.

I was shocked when I read on here that people actually take them home LOL---do you put it on a shelf for display so all your visitors in your house can see it and know you stole the towels from Disney?? I find this really really weird. All the times we went to Disney and had them in our room and on cruises and had them in our room if I thought they were cute I woujld take a picture of it or of my daughter and it and the next day they would turn the towels into a new type of animal-my daughter never even thought to ask to bring it home LOL.

We didn't ask to take them home. She was coming to the room when we were leaving for the day. She had left some in the window frame and asked the kids if they liked them. She told them not to forget when you leave. I said no that was ok and then she said that's what they are there for. There is no :confused3 or any  over behavior exhibited. Flat out told that they are for the guests to take. I have no need of crappy, thin and shabby towels from WDW, however the kids were told they were for them so of course they put them in their carryons.

After all, they are only wash cloths and towels. :lmao:Who can't put those together.

In some cases, the towel animal has been secured with hot glue.

I find it funny that folks are up in arms to protest towel animal removal when folks have commented that the cast members provided permission to take them. Totally not the same as a reusable mug or "illegal" pool hopping where policies are clearly in place.

And yes we took one home and I accidentally washed it and a glued towel animal before the wash becomes just glued together wash cloths after it is washed. Maybe that is the new theft deterrent.

No, it really doesn't, when a mousekeeper tells your kids to take them home. We brought a couple home from our first trip, and they're sitting on top of the dresser in the guest room, along with some pics of the kids from our WDW trips. I can't believe how many people on here are so judgmental about this.

And did anyone except one poster on page 2 even read the article? It says nothing about Disney using the new technology.

Why do you keep refusing to accept the fact that many people have been told that it's OK to take them? Do you think we're all lying?

FTR, no, we didn't ask, our mousekeeper mentioned it when we passed her and I said how cute they were. And I see a huge difference between a little stuffed animal made out of worn out, extra washcloths and the curtains, but I guess YMMV on that.

Just because an employee says it does not make it so. We have people come in to my job to collect junk or cans etc--we say "sure go ahead its fine" but management stand on that is very different! What do we care--we just say "go ahead"--doesn't make it right!
